Chiefs Trent McDuffie Praised As Top Cornerback

Yahoo19-05-2025

The Kansas City Chiefs have enjoyed a lot of success the past few seasons, and some of that can be attributed to some solid player for one of their young stars.
In a recent article by PFF's Jonathon Macri, he ranks who he believes are the top 25 players under the age of 25 in the NFL. At No. 5, he has Chiefs defensive back Trent McDuffie ranked as the best young cornerback in the league.

"McDuffie went from being a top-five nickel cornerback in PFF overall grade for Steve Spagnuolo's defense in 2023 to a top-five outside cornerback in 2024," Macri writes. "He is the NFL's highest-graded cornerback since 2023."
His first two years in the league, McDuffie did not record an interception, but he was perhaps the best tackling corner in the league. But now, Chiefs defensive coordinator Stever Spagnuolo has him on the outside.
He recorded his first two career interceptions in 2024, and he was tied for sixth in the NFL in passes defended with 13. He was also able to show his versatility with six tackles for loss and four quarterback hits.
All of this led him to be named to one of the All-Pro teams for the second time in just his first three seasons in the league.

The Chiefs fell short of the three-peat this past season, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. McDuffie and the rest of the team's defense will be looking to help the team get back to the mountaintop.

Cowboys' Micah Parsons Announces Major Statement

Cowboys' Micah Parsons Announces Major Statement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Micah Parsons being in and out of Dallas Cowboys OTAs wasn't the biggest of deals, with the All-Pro making his way to The Star after the most recent practice. Advertisement But with his contract situation still not resolved, all eyes are on mandatory mini-camp next week and whether or not "The Lion" will be in attendance. "I expect to see him," head coach Brian Schottenheimer said. And now Micah himself has confirmed his attendance via X regardless of whether a deal is done or not. "I will be there! I haven't missed a mini camp in 4 years! Even though the contract is not done, I have teammates and a playbook ! I'm preparing as if I will be on the field the first week of camp! But it's in the owner's hands. I'm ready to win a Super Bowl !" Micah Parsons And Brian SchottenheimerTony Fisher Cue a collective sigh of relief with perhaps Dallas' best player not letting his contract situation interfere with his football. Advertisement Of course, in an ideal world, Dallas and Micah would come to terms sooner rather than later, but with Parsons expected to fetch a contract around $40 million APY, Jerry Jones stated that No. 11 must be the player he wants to be paid like. And that means showing up for work. Which Parsons has done to a degree during OTAs, and now he's confirmed he'll be at The Star next week for the mandatory portion of this early offseason work. Part of a new-look leadership group, Parsons knows the value of being there for his teammates and to learn a new playbook. So with or without a contract, Micah will be present next week. Deuce Fans Demand He Gets 'A Real Shot' from Cowboys

I don't know what's going to happen to Deuce Vaughn in Dallas. But I do know this — you can't tell me the kid who led the entire country in all-purpose yards at Kansas State can't play in the NFL. ... Especially not when his only reps came under a coaching staff that's no longer in the building — largely because of their own inability to build a creative, functional run game. Advertisement And here's something else worth factoring in. During the Cowboys' post-draft press conference prior to Vaughn's second year, Mike McCarthy openly acknowledged that they overhauled the entire pass protection scheme for their running backs. And for someone like Deuce Vaughn — a rookie running back already undersized and fighting uphill in pass pro — that 'revamp' likely felt like a foreign language. Think about that. You're asking a rookie to learn a brand-new protection system, adjust to NFL speed, and compete for a role in a backfield that didn't yet know what it wanted to be. That's not just a challenge — that's a structural disadvantage. Advertisement The Cowboys weren't just installing a new playbook. They were overhauling everything. Which means Deuce Vaughn probably didn't get the development plan, the tailored packages, or the situational usage he deserved. And that's not a reflection of his ability. It's a reflection of timing and circumstance. Because as we've said before: It's not about who's in the backfield. It's about how you use them. And in 2023, Dallas didn't have that answer. We just wrote about this last week in the Playoff Dak article: the Cowboys' postseason failures have gone far beyond the quarterback position. The run game has consistently vanished. The scheme lacked nuance. The offense didn't marry the run to the pass. And for a player like Deuce— that environment gave him no chance. Deuce is still 5-6 and 176. That's not changing. But otherwise? Now, some things are different. Advertisement New coach Brian Schottenheimer and his staff aren't just emphasizing the run — they're emphasizing physicality and functionality. Running the ball with purpose, not just to check a box or meet a minimum requirement. And one of the new key voices in that room just so happens to be Connor Riley, Vaughn's former offensive line coach at Kansas State. If anyone knows how to unlock Deuce, it's him. Yes, the Cowboys added two veterans in free agency. Yes, they drafted two rookies. But let's not act like anyone outside of Jaydon Blue is untouchable. They're all playing for jobs this summer. And I say - speaking for fans of the players - that Deuce Vaughn belongs in that mix. I will argue that he can absolutely play in this league. He just needs a real shot — in a real offense — with real vision for how to use him. And maybe, for the first time since arriving in Dallas, it looks like he might actually get one. Trevon Diggs has been away from the Dallas Cowboys as he continues his knee rehab in Miami, but a continued absence could end up running him a cost of at least $500,000. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO — Almost all Dallas Cowboys have reported to The Star for organized team activities in recent weeks. Even Micah Parsons, still handling contract disputes with team leadership, has made some appearances around the facility in spots. Advertisement The lone man out of action? Star cornerback Trevon Diggs. The five-year pro has continued his rehab a surgically repaired left knee... in Miami. When head coach Brian Schottenheimer addressed reporters Tuesday, he made it clear that all parties appear to be on the same page here. He noted that he has spoken with Diggs who has checked in with team doctors. Make no mistake, the wish from the Cowboys side is for Diggs to perform his rehab with the team, as Stephen Jones details. "Our understanding is he's getting the work done and he'll be back in, and we'll get a good look at him next week [at the minicamp]." Advertisement This situation has a similar feel to last offseason when the Cowboys harbored some frustrations with Diggs' approach to his ACL rehab. However, Dallas' No. 1 corner has more to lose at this juncture. According to a stipulation in Diggs' contract, he is in danger of losing $500,000 by virtue of his continued absence from the Cowboys' offseason program. To avoid the fine, he must participate in 84.375% of the club's activities. (As noted by ESPN.) Diggs has missed the first two phases in the offseason program and has yet to take part in OTAs. Those are in fact voluntary, but the team's mandatory minicamp is set to begin a week from Tuesday on June 10 and run through June 12. Absence from those dates would also draw a separate fine. The Cowboys certainly want him back around the team headquarters though there is a strong possibility Diggs will start the season on the PUP list. Advertisement "[We] won't have a feel for when he's going to be able to get in the middle of everything until we get to training camp when we're with him day in and day out and see how he's progressing," Jones said. Diggs' limited availability over the last two seasons has been a thorn in the Cowboys' side especially after the extension they signed him to before the 2023 campaign. However these coming weeks unfold, the Cowboys' ultimate goal is to get Diggs back on the field and ready to compete at a high level again.
