Qatar Charity launches its pioneering Quran Literacy Project in Bangladesh

Qatar Charity (QC) has launched its pioneering Quran Literacy Project in Bangladesh, aimed at empowering children with reading difficulties by equipping them with the essential skills to recite, memorise, and comprehend the Holy Quran.
The project is part of QC's wider Al-Furqan Quranic Literacy Programme, which not only focuses on Quranic education but also promotes the moral, psychological, and social development of its beneficiaries. The initiative is delivered through simplified, engaging, and inclusive educational content, reinforcing QC's commitment to supporting marginalised communities through both spiritual and educational development.
The project was inaugurated at two of QC's flagship social welfare centres—Markaz Muhammad Bin Ajaj Al-Kubaisi Centre and the Sakhaa Centre—with over 600 sponsored children in attendance.
The launch ceremony was vibrant and participatory, featuring Holy Quran recitations, theatrical performances, and cultural competitions. These activities reflected the programme's inclusive and celebratory approach to learning, while fostering a sense of community and purpose among participants.
Speaking at the event, Dr Mohammad Amin Hafez Omar, country director of QC's Bangladesh Branch, said, 'This initiative is more than a literacy campaign—it is a transformative journey. Teaching the Holy Quran is not just about words and rules; it is about building balanced individuals equipped with values, self-respect, and purpose. Through this programme, we enable our beneficiaries to connect with the divine message and open the door to a renewed sense of identity, dignity, and direction in life.'
Monzurul Haque, a Holy Quran teacher involved in the project, elaborated on the teaching methodology: 'We begin with foundational Arabic, helping students recognise letters and sounds, then gradually introduce Quranic verses along with their meanings. Our goal is not merely fluency, but deep understanding and spiritual reflection.'
The students expressed enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the initiative.
Zakaria Dewan shared: 'I feel proud to be part of this program. Learning the Holy Quran properly has always been a dream for me. Now, I feel like I am doing something that gives me strength and brings me closer to my faith.'
Khadiza Begum added: 'This project makes me happy. I feel like I am learning something important for my life. It gives me hope that I can understand the Holy Quran like my teachers.' Ataul Islam reflected: 'Learning the Holy Quran in its original language is a dream I never thought possible. It makes me feel connected to my faith and my identity.'
It is worth noting that Qatar Charity currently supports 5,082 students in Bangladesh through comprehensive financial assistance, aiming to ensure a brighter and more secure future for them.

Awqaf Ministry launches ‘Parent Follow-up Day' initiative at Quranic education centres
QNA Doha The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Department of the Holy Qur'an and its Sciences within the Department of Da'wah and Religious Guidance, has launched an outstanding initiative about Parent Follow-up Day to bolster integration between the family and Quranic education centres and support the role of parents in the educational process of their children. An Awqaf statement on Sunday highlighted that the move is devoted to specifying Sunday of every month as the time for the attendance of parents to check on their sons inside the Quranic centres across the country. Head of Awqaf's Department of the Holy Qur'an and its Sciences, Fahad Ahmed Al Mohammed, stated that the initiative comes in implementation of the directives of HE Minister of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem to reinforce constructive cooperation between homes and centres, thereby contributing to achieving the intended pedagogical objectives. He emphasized the attendance of parents to these centres represents a catalysing support for students, as periodic attendance would likewise advance the educational process and achieve effective engagement among all parties. Conducted on Aug. 3, 2025, the first visit featured the participation of 1,262 parents in 149 Quranic centres nationwide and included individual sessions with teachers, as well as field trips and establishing communication groups via WhatsApp to follow up on the progress of memorizing and revising the Holy Qur'an. Accordingly, several parents appreciated this initiative, emphasizing that it fosters students' commitment to attending the memorization sessions and helps build balanced characters. Participant students, for their part, confirmed that the attendance of their parents largely stimulates them and enhances their commitment to these memorization classes, with heads of the centres praising this step as it generates a positive impact on students and educational staff. As such, Awqaf continues to double down on its efforts to back the Quranic education centres for both genders throughout the nation by putting out educational plans and supervising the teachers' performance. This is in addition to holding Quranic activities with the aim of graduating an erudite generation that memorizes the Holy Qur'an and adheres to the Islamic precepts, thereby contributing to building a community that underpins Islamic values, faith, and identity.

Over 600 students attend QF's ‘Mukayyamna' camp
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Foundation's Pre-University Education has concluded the summer edition of its 'Mukayyamna' programme, which brought together over 600 students from both QF schools and various schools across the country for an enriching experience that combined learning, interaction and entertainment. The Mukayyamna camp is an annual platform designed to empower students beyond the traditional classroom. It offers programmes focused on developing skills in sports, sustainability, arts, music and leadership, with a strong emphasis on personal growth and community engagement. Commenting on the programme, Rodha Al-Saadi, the head of community engagement at the student affairs and Community Engagement Department under QF's Pre-University Education, said: 'Mukayyamna is a practical extension of the vision of QF's PUE. Through this camp, we aim to nurture well-rounded, conscious individuals who are capable of making a positive impact on their community.' Al-Saadi explained that the design of the camp's activities begins with analysing students' interests and needs, based on feedback and surveys from students, parents and teachers. A comprehensive plan is then developed to cover a variety of areas, ensuring inclusivity across all age groups and ability levels. Al-Saadi continued: 'The activities are designed to strike a balance between fun and learning, fostering skills such as leadership, communication, physical activity, critical thinking, teamwork, and self-discipline. Some activities also incorporate financial literacy, which enhances academic development in a non-traditional way. 'We are committed to ensuring that all our activities are rooted in experiential learning, with each activity linked to clear learning outcomes and practical life skills. We also conduct regular assessments to measure how well students have acquired these skills and how they relate to their future academic and personal goals. 'The camp provides students with opportunities to apply what they learn academically in real-life settings, reinforcing values such as responsibility, initiative, and teamwork. Activities place students in situations that require decision-making, taking responsibility, and dealing with real-life challenges, fostering independence and resilience. The camp also includes awareness and community programmes that encourage students to think beyond themselves and engage with issues affecting the world around them.' Al-Saadi noted that although the camp was primarily designed for QF students, deliberate efforts were made to involve students from other schools across the country. This approach aimed to broaden the programme's social impact, promote inclusivity, and encourage the exchange of educational experiences. 'We aspire for the camp to serve as a platform that equips students to carry what they've learned into their homes and communities, whether through positive behaviours or community initiatives.
