EPS's dream to form next govt won't come true: Nehru

Trichy: AIADMK general secretary
Edappadi K Palaniswami
's dream of forming the next govt in the state will never come true, said municipal administration minister K N Nehru in Trichy on Sunday.
DMK
's alliance is in tact and CM
M K Stalin
is fulfilling the promises made to the people, he said, adding that DMK will return to power with Stalin at the helm after the 2026 assembly election.
"He (EPS) doesn't have any subject to speak, but our chief minister is leading our alliance smoothly. Nobody from our alliance met them (NDA), instead, leaders like OPS and from DMDK have met our CM," Nehru said after inaugurating new buses at Panjapur KKBT.
Stating that Palaniswami had come out of Salem after four years only now to meet the public, Nehru said people are happy with the state govt's initiatives including Ungaludan Stalin.
To a question on PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss's continuous criticism of DMK govt, Nehru said the PMK leader is being critical of DMK and CM to get himself recognised.
On PM Narendra Modi's yet another visit to the state, Nehru said, "We swept the general elections by winning all 40 constituencies when he (Modi) visited Tamil Nadu eight times before, so, we have nothing against his visit." The minister added that more commercial space would open in Panjapur KKBT within two months. Later, at the Trichy collector office, the minister distributed a financial assistance of Rs3 lakh each to the families of three victims of the road accident near Lalgudi on Saturday.

30 lakh petitions filed in 'Ungaludan Stalin' campaign across Tamil Nadu

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government's flagship outreach initiative, 'Ungaludan Stalin', which means (Stalin With You), has seen an overwhelming response from the public, with more than 30 lakh petitions submitted in just 30 days. According to official figures, the petitions were received through 3,561 special camps organised across the state between July 15 and August 14. The campaign, launched to take governance closer to the people, was designed to provide citizens with a platform to submit grievances and seek access to welfare schemes directly at their doorsteps. The initiative enabled lakhs of residents, particularly from rural areas, to bring issues related to welfare schemes, certificates, and government services to the attention of officials without the hurdles of visiting multiple offices. A notable aspect of the petitions was the high number of women applicants. Reports indicate that 13.7 lakh petitions came from women seeking re-enrolment in the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT) scheme, a monthly financial assistance programme for eligible women heads of households. The sheer volume of applications underscores both the popularity of the scheme and the demand for ensuring continuity of benefits among the state's women beneficiaries. Officials have emphasised that the government intends to process these petitions on a war footing. The Greater Chennai Corporation, which coordinated the campaign within the city, has assured that all grievances registered during the camps will be addressed within 45 days. Similar assurances have been given by district administrations across Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's government has positioned 'Ungaludan Stalin' as an extension of its larger goal of bringing administration closer to the people. The outreach initiative builds on earlier grievance-redressal mechanisms such as 'Ungal Thoguthiyil Mudhalamaichar' (Chief Minister in Your Constituency), but with greater accessibility and larger participation. With the staggering number of petitions received in a short span, the state government now faces the challenge of ensuring speedy follow-up action. Observers note that the credibility of the campaign will ultimately rest on whether these lakhs of grievances are resolved within the promised timeframe, thereby strengthening public faith in the government's delivery mechanisms.

ED raids Tamil Nadu Minister I Periyasamy, son in money laundering case

Last Updated: Chennai, Aug 16 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday searched multiple premises linked to Tamil Nadu Minister and DMK leader I Periyasamy and his MLA son as part of a money laundering investigation, official sources said. The raids were undertaken in Chennai and Dindigul under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The premises of I P Sentilkumar, the son of the 72-year-old minister for rural development, panchayats and panchayat unions, were also searched, according to the sources. Periyasamy represents the Athoor assembly constituency in Dindigul district. There was no immediate comment from Periyasamy or the DMK on the ED action. The money laundering investigation stems from an April order of the Madras High Court, which directed a special court in Dindigul to frame charges against Periyasamy and his family members in connection with a Rs 2.1 crore 'disproportionate" assets case. The order came in response to some criminal revision petitions filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), challenging a special court order discharging Periyasamy and his family members from the case. The HC also directed the special court to conduct the trial on a day-to-day basis and complete it within six months. The prosecution's case was that Periyasamy had amassed wealth to the tune of Rs 2.1 crore in his name and in the names of his wife, P Suseela and sons P Sentilkumar and P Prabhu, disproportionate to his known sources of income when he was a minister between 2006 and 2010. Stock library with books for competitive exams: Papparapatti youth

DHARMAPURI: Jobs in the public sector are coveted with many youth preparing for competitive examinations for years. The government-run Subramaniya Siva Memorial in Papparapatti is a sought-after destination for such job aspirants because of its tranquil ambience and library facilities. On an average at least 80 to 100 youth arrive here to study and use the library. However, the patrons complain the facility lacks books which aid in competitive exams, drinking water facilities and sufficient rest rooms for visitors. Speaking to TNIE, R Sibiarasan from Papparapatti said, "The Subramaniya Siva Memorial is located on a five-acre property. School and college students as well as people appearing for competitive exams come here on a daily basis. The library lacks appropriate books that help in preparation." The administration should provide 10 sets of class 6 to 10 books which will be crucial for cracking competitive exams. Further, we would also like more benches and desks so that more students can join the study sessions, he suggested. S Kayalvizhi, another local resident, said, "The administration must take steps to improve the drinking water facilities here. While there are restrooms, the water supply is irregular. Our key demand is improvement of the library." Officials at the Dharmapuri district administration assured to look into the issue and take necessary steps. I-Day marked at venue On Friday BJP cadre led by state vice-president KP Ramalingam celebrated Independence Day at the Subramaniya Siva Memorial. Speaking on the occasion, he said: "As the DMK government is terrified about the upcoming election, they are implementing many schemes at the last minute to mislead the people. Chief Minister MK Stalin does not care about the welfare of the people".
