SC pulls up Karnataka for inaction, says state must not yield to vigilante threats over 'Thug Life'
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed the
Karnataka government
to ensure that there is no obstruction to the release of Kamal Haasan-starrer film 'Thug Life' in the state.
Following the direction, the state assured SC that it will provide protection to the film makers so that the film's release is not obstructed in the state. A bench comprising justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan also disapproved of the state's inaction in dealing with such threats to
free speech
.
The development took place during the resumed hearing of a plea filed by a Bengaluru resident
M Mahesh Reddy
, who highlighted that despite having a valid censor certificate the film was effectively banned in Karnataka due to threats by fringe organisations and inaction by state authorities.

The petitioner urged SC to lay down guidelines to prevent such incidents from recurring in future, but the bench refused.
The bench made it clear that the state government cannot bow to pressure from
vigilante groups
. "Just because of an opinion a movie is stopped, a stand up comedian is stopped, a person is stopped from reciting a poem ... You (State) succumbed to their pressure. In such circumstances the state has a duty. Simply saying a ban is not imposed will take it nowhere. You are hiding behind these groups," the bench verbally remarked.

When Terry Bradshaw bragged about being a ‘sex symbol' with hair in a wild Playboy moment
Terry Bradshaw's 'sex symbol' remark in Playboy interview still turns heads today (Getty Images) Long before Terry Bradshaw became the jovial voice of FOX NFL Sunday, he turned heads in an unexpected place—Playboy magazine. It was 1980, and the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback had already carved his legacy with four Super Bowl titles. Yet, what made headlines back then wasn't a clutch pass or a trophy celebration—it was his surprisingly candid, humorous interview with a publication better known for its models than its football analysis. Terry Bradshaw's playful Playboy moment: Why he once believed he was a national 'sex symbol' Terry Bradshaw, then at the peak of his career, stunned fans by sitting down with Playboy. For a man known for his Christian values, it was a move that blended shock with comedy. At the heart of the interview was a lighthearted conversation about his hair—or the lack of it. He had done commercials for Eva Gabor's wig company in the '70s, so when asked about wearing a toupee, his response was classic Bradshaw. 'Because the people, well, uh… 'cause I love it! I do like to wear it,' he said, explaining how easy it was to clip on. 'I wear it on all the TV shows and my public appearances, stuff like that.' With the same sense of humor that has made him a TV favorite, Bradshaw went on to theatrically fetch his toupee, joking, 'Don't come in. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thị trường có dấu hiệu suy thoái không? Once he returned, posing like a model, he declared, 'Ready or not, here it is. This is what I used to look like before I lost my hair.' When the interviewer commented on how the look must have attracted a lot of women, Bradshaw responded with cheeky confidence: 'Basically.' And when pressed further, he grinned and said, 'Basic quarterback sex symbol.' Despite his self-deprecating humor, Bradshaw admitted that compliments on his bald look were always appreciated. 'That's what my wife tells me [that bald is supposed to be sexy]. And I consider that a tremendous flattery, considering God overlooked me when he gave out looks. He gave it to all my brothers. He overlooked me.' Today, at 76, Bradshaw continues to entertain millions on FOX, often donning his signature flatcap and never missing a beat with his trademark wit. But retirement is creeping closer. Speaking to Mirror U.S. Sports during Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, he admitted he's eyeing the finish line. 'I told my wife before I left the room a while ago, I'm sitting there... I said, 'I've got two years left at FOX. I'm 76. Okay, so it's a young man's game. I get that.'' Bradshaw added, 'If we can get to the next Super Bowl, I'll be 80. That's... I think that's time. 80 years old, that's pushing it!' From quarterback sex symbol to beloved broadcaster, Terry Bradshaw's journey has always been full of surprises—and he might just have one or two more left before he finally hangs up the mic. Ramadoss dubs son's remarks on DMK a blatant lie
C hennai: PMK founder S Ramadoss continued to attack his son and PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss dismissing his claim that the DMK was responsible for their ongoing feud as false. "It's a blatant lie," Ramadoss told reporters in Chennai on Thursday. Anbumani had alleged that DMK was creating the rift in PMK, scared of its strength. Ramadoss was also non-committal when reporters asked him in Chennai on Thursday whether he would forgive Anbumani since his son had publicly apologized. He recited a Tamil film song, 'Poga poga therium,' meaning his response to Anbumani's apology will be known in the coming days. Ramadoss also defended two of his party MLAs, G K Mani and R Arul from Salem, who got themselves admitted to hospitals a day before Anbumani held a meeting in Salem district. There were murmurs of discontent among Anbumani supporters that the two were trying to skip the meeting. But Ramadoss said it could be a coincidence that the duo fell sick at the same time of the Salem meeting. Meanwhile, Anbumani said the charges levelled against him by Ramadoss were baseless. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Addressing the party functionaries in Salem, he dubbed the charges as '100 % lie'. Ramadoss had alleged that Anbumani threw a bottle on his mother earlier this year. Ramadoss had also charged that Anbumani struck a poll deal with BJP and got the latter's wife Soumya to contest in polls against his wishes. Anbumani said he would provide a proper explanation for the allegations soon. Anbumani also made a veiled attack on Arul and G K Mani for getting hospitalised ahead of the meeting he convened. "Let us pray for their speedy physical and mental recovery," he said, sparking a round of applause from the cadres. Incidentally, Arul, who was admitted at Omandurar govt super specialty hospital, got discharged on Thursday. "I have recovered," he told reporters as he walked out of the hospital.
