Michigan State basketball offers 5-star center prospect in 2026 recruiting class

USA Today4 days ago
Michigan State basketball has extended an offer to their latest target in the 2026 recruiting class, identifying one of the top centers in the class as an offer candidate.
Ethan Taylor was the recipient of the offer from Michigan State. A 7-foot, 245 pound center that plays at Link Academy in Branson, Missouri, he currently ranks as a 5-star prospect and the No. 21 overall player as well as the No. 1 center in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Of note, Taylor is going to be teammates with current Spartan point guard commit Carlos Medlock Jr. for the upcoming prep basketball season.
Taylor has over 13 offers from power conference schools.

CBS Sports predicts Michigan State football's first loss of the 2025 season

Who will be the Spartans first loss of the 2025 season? Brad Crawford of CBS Sports has an answer. Crawford recently released his projected first loss for every Big Ten team, and the Spartans' first defeat of the season is not all too surprising. Crawford sees Michigan State's first loss coming out in Los Angeles during the Spartans' first road trip of the season at USC on September 20. This is also the Spartans' first Big Ten game of the season. Here's what Crawford had to say about Michigan State: "The Spartans will go as far as Aidan Chiles can take them, as long as the defense holds up. Barring an early stumble, a potential season-defining Week 4 clash in Los Angeles could turn the tide for Jonathan Smith's first season -- though winning at the Coliseum won't come easy." With Crawford predicting the Spartans' first loss coming at USC, this would mean he believes Michigan State will open the season 3-0 with a perfect non-conference record. That is notable because the Spartans host Boston College during a marquee week two matchup from Spartan Stadium -- which I personally consider a make-or-break game for the 2025 season. Iowa women's basketball bigs forging important bond

Jan Jensen touched on how important Ava Heiden has been early in Layla Hays' development at Iowa. As the Iowa women's basketball program continues through its summer practices in Iowa City, head coach Jan Jensen praised the positive impact that she has seen from the energetic battles between centers Ava Heiden and Layla Hays. Heiden, who enters the 2025-26 campaign as the presumptive starting center, has taken freshman Leyla Hays under her wing throughout the summer by providing high-intensity challenges to the Wasilla, Alaska native that will help her succeed in the fall, especially come Big Ten play. When Jensen was asked about her opinion of the developing relationship between the two centers, she began by admitting that Heiden's size has been particularly beneficial for Hays, given that the freshman did not deal with any form of adversity from that perspective in her high school days in Alaska. "I think that's really been great. It's been nice for Layla to have a bigger body, because she's never dealt with that, especially in Alaska," Jensen said. Jensen continued by praising the competitive battles between the two as a way they can forge new skills and learn from each other, especially with an upperclassman who can accept physicality without taking it personally. "They can battle and can get intense and can get a little cranky, but there's still respect that I really love from the team that I've seen really forge pretty early. I think especially for post players, when you're learning as a young one, to really know when to throw an elbow because you need to, and it's the smart thing. It's nice to have a personality like an upperclassman that's not taken personally." With two skilled centers on the roster with multiple years of eligibility remaining, the Hawkeyes will look to utilize their combined dominance in the paint to their advantage this fall against a conference that features some of the nation's top post players. Hawaiian DL prospect gets invite to Michigan State opener vs. WMU

Thank you for this opportunity! @MSU_Football A Hawaiian defensive lineman in the 2027 class has picked up an invite to the Spartans' season-opener against Western Michigan. Stone Ah Quin of Honolulu announced earlier this week that he received an invite from Michigan State to attend the Spartans' season-opening game against Western Michigan. Quin announced the invite via a post on his social media X account. Quin is an unrated defensive lineman in the 2027 class. He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds, and plays for St. Louis School. Michigan State is one of six schools to extend Quin an offer, with the Spartans handing him an offer in May, according to 247Sports. He also holds offers from California, Colorado State, Hawaii, San Diego State and UNLV. Quin didn't note in his post if he plans on attending the game or is just simply thankful for the invite. His recruitment by the Spartans will be something we want to monitor over the fall and into next year.
