Iconic cafe serving the 'best full English breakfast' in London has been saved
The Regency Cafe in Westminster claimed to sell the 'best English breakfast in London' after opening in 1946.
Fans of the cheap fry ups and old school service feared the caff would be gone forever after it closed in December 2024 when its owners put the business up for sale.
But after just two days of viewings, the Regency Cafe was snapped up by new owners Fevzi and Zafer Gungor.
Christie & Co confirmed to Metro that the sale was completed on Tuesday, with the kitchen serving customers again the same day.
The new bosses, who own dozens of eateries in the capital, want to add a new flavour to the famous venue, by introducing a line of merchandise and expanding overseas.
Fevzi Gungor said: 'I'm honoured to take over such a historic and much-loved institution. As someone born in Turkey and raised in White City, West London, my journey started humbly – delivering newspapers at 13 before school – and I've never looked back.
'My aim isn't to change what people already love about Regency Café, but to enhance it – extending opening hours, refreshing equipment, strengthening our social media presence, and introducing merchandise that captures the spirit of this iconic spot.
'We're also exploring partnerships with major British brands for co-branded sauces, beans, and more.
'We may look at expanding the kitchen to cater for Halal dining, reflecting the diverse communities and tourists we serve, including many from the Arab Peninsula.
'In time, I'd love to see the Regency name in key global cities – Amsterdam, Berlin, Istanbul, Dubai – but our immediate focus is on Regency Street.'
Regency Cafe has played a starring role in a string of TV shows and films set in London. More Trending
It has featured in the crime thriller Layer Cake (2004), which starred Daniel Craig before he was cast as James Bond.
The famous fry ups also made an appearance in Oscar nominated films Pride (2014), which followed the efforts of London LGBTQ+'s community to support striking miners in the 1980s, and Elton John biopic Rocketman (2019),
The business was sold to the pair at an undisclosed price, but it was originally listed for £170,000 through Christie & Co.

Strictly star swaps ballroom for Hollywood with movie debut
Olympic champion and former Strictly Come Dancing star Nicola Adams has lined up her debut acting role in an upcoming Hollywood movie. Former professional boxer Nicola, 42, appeared on the 18th series of the BBC dance competition in 2020. She made history when partnered with professional dancer Katya Jones as the show's first-ever same-sex partnership. However, her Strictly dreams were cut abruptly short when they were forced to withdraw during the fourth week of the competition, after Katya tested positive for Covid-19. The two-time Olympic champ will now pursue another dream—turning her hand to acting in an upcoming movie. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. Nicola will star alongside Poppy Delevigne, Jack Kesy, and Bruce Willis's daughter, Rumer, in the allegorical thriller The Gun on Second Street. Talking about her career move, Nicola told The Sun: 'I just want to work with people that are just as hungry as I am. 'I'm not one of those people that just show up and just expect everything to be fine. 'I put in the work, I put in the graft, just as I do as an athlete as well. I want to take it as far as I can in terms of how I grow as an actor, being able to experience different types of roles, playing different characters that really flex my abilities and my ability to be able to dig deep on the emotions that are needed for the more dark characters.' Written and directed by Rohit Karn Batra, its story follows two police officers who are called to a domestic violence dispute on the titular Second Street in Philadelphia. The call-out goes awry when one officer accidentally shoots and kills the other. The film is described as an allegory about the gun crisis in America. At present, Nicola is listed on IMDB, although her character has not been named. Nicola rose to fame during the Olympics in 2012, becoming the first female boxer to win Olympic Gold for Britain. She went on to successfully defend her title at Rio 2016, before winning the title of WBO (World Boxing Organisation) flyweight in 2019. The athlete was forced into an early retirement that same year due to a serious eye injury, having only fought six times as a pro. She returned to the spotlight the very next year as a Strictly hopeful and has since expressed how much she'd love to return as a contestant due to 'unfinished business' after her premature departure. Of her decision to retire, Nicola said in 2019: 'I'm immensely honoured to have represented our country—to win double Olympic gold medals and then the WBO championship belt is a dream come true. 'But it's not without taking its toll on my body, and aside from the expected aches and pains, I've been advised that any further impact to my eye would most likely lead to irreparable damage and permanent vision loss. 'Boxing has always been such an important part of my life—and it always will—but after training every day for over 20 years, my body is quite looking forward to a rest!' More recently, Nicola is reported to have split from her partner of seven years, Ella Baig. The boxer began dating the OnlyFans model, 27, after they met on a night out in 2018. More Trending Now, the couple share two-year-old son, Taylor Nate, who was born via IVF using one of Nicola's eggs. A spokesperson told The Sun in March: 'Nicola and Ella have shared an incredible journey together, full of love, growth, and resilience. 'After much thoughtful reflection and important therapy work, they have made the difficult decision to separate. View More » 'Their priority remains their son, Taylor, and they are committed to co-parenting with love and respect.' Got a story? Drake leaves fans fuming as he reschedules Manchester gig at last minute
Canadian music sensation Drake is in the midst of a European tour with fellow singer PartyNextDoor - but he has angered some fans by suddenly changing concert dates Music fans have been left in despair as Drake has announced his hotly anticipated concert in Manchester this coming week has been cancelled. The 38-year-old Canadian rap star had been due to thrill fans at the Co-Op Arena on Monday night. But on Sunday, news emerged that the concert had to be abruptly cancelled - due to travel disruption. There was good news, however, as fans of Drake were told the gigs would be rescheduled. The concerts, produced by LiveNation and with Ticketmaster handling ticket sales, would be pushed back to early August, meaning fans had less than a week to change plans to see the star at the recently build music and events venue. However, some fans were still let out as they could not change plans to see the musician on his rescheduled dates. Drake is on the road with fellow Canadian singer PartyNextDoor - the stage name of Jahron Brathwaite, 32. The boys have been entertaining their fans with their $OME $PECIAL $HOWS 4 U tour. News of the change to the advertised plans was released on Sunday. Fans turning to the official Co-Op Arena website were met with a notice detailing the rescheduled concert. A notice warned: "Due to unforeseen ferry schedule and travel logistics, tomorrow's performance in Manchester on July 28th has been rescheduled." However, it continued: "The good news is that Drake will now perform in Manchester on Tuesday, August 5th, and it's set to be an unforgettable night. All tickets remain valid for the new date—we can't wait to see you there!" Further details about the headliner and his concert explained: "Five-time Grammy-award winning and multi-platinum global artist Drake announced his highly anticipated return to Europe and the UK with his $ome $pecial $hows 4 UK EU run kicking off this July. "The run will feature PARTYNEXTDOOR on all dates. Produced by Live Nation. The tour marks Drake's first return to Europe and the UK in six years, following his 2019 Assassination Vacation Tour." The change in dates has left some fans disappointed, however. One responded to the news sadly on Instagram, writing: "I'm so sad came way from New York to see the boy." Many others have taken to social media to try and sell their rescheduled tickets as they are no longer able to attend the gig following the switch up of dates. And Drake has also risked turning some fans against him due to the scheduling shambles. One bitterly hit out on X, writing: "so far drake cancelled/rescheduled 3 shows: manchester, belgium and zurich. who the f**k plans his tour dates and why is it that everytime he goes to europe he either cancels the dates or reschedules!!! people travel from other countries to his concerts!!! this is absurd!" Drake and PartyNextDoor have already played two dates in Manchester and a number of shows in London ahead of the rescheduled dates. They head to Amsterdam next before retuning to Manchester the following week. The duo will remain on the road until late September, playing to crowds in Germany, France, Italy, Sweden and more.
