ESPN's Paul Finebaum may have just wrote a check he can't cash.
A few days ago, Finebaum appeared on the "Netflix Sports Club Podcast." As you'd imagine, he talked about the 2025 college football season. During his conversation with Dani Klupenger, the longtime radio personality was asked if an SEC team will win the national championship this season.
Finebaum didn't just say the SEC would win the national title, he said he'd leave the United States if a program from his favorite conference fails to win it all.
"It is," Finebaum replied. "And by the way, if it's not, I'm leaving the country because I am so sick and tired of being harassed by Big Ten fans on our show."
Finebaum vented about the Big Ten for a few seconds before revealing his pick to win it all. As of now, he's riding with the Texas Longhorns.
"The Big Ten has literally done nothing. They've won two national championships. Michigan won one two years ago. They've won one and a half national championships, I think, and before that, in 70 years. And they act like they invented football," Finebaum said, via Awful Announcing. "Alabama has won about 15 national championships in my lifetime. Now, I realize that's not a good comparison to a realistic lifespan. But, I believe Texas is going to win; I didn't mean to avoid your question. It's going to end all this. And on January 20, I'll be the happiest man in America because I won't have to listen to the Big Tenners, or as my callers call them, the Little Tenners."
The College Football Playoff is several months away, but fans can't wait for it to begin because of Finebaum's promise. His critics would love to see him leave the national spotlight for good.
"Someone from the Big Ten plz pull it off so we can get rid of this idiot," one fan wrote on X.
"When you make statements like that, you are setting yourself up for extreme scrutiny," a second fan commented.
"We can only hope he'll actually leave. There's zero reason anyone should care what that man says about football," another fan said.
"Hope Buckeyes take it Maybe Penn State or Michigan. If so. I'll start a go fund me for your airfare," a social media user wrote.
Luckily for Finebaum, he just needs any team in the SEC to win in order to stick around. Texas, Georgia, Alabama and LSU are all expected to be top-10 teams this season.
Of course, only time will tell if Finebaum eats his own words.

Social media reacts to shocking Big Ten College Football Playoff idea

College Football Playoff expansion has been a talking point since the original four-team playoff debuted in 2014. The playoff just recently expanded from four to 12 teams, but it might not be done there. On Saturday, reports emerged about an idea from the Big Ten concerning expansion. And it's a pretty wild concept. According to reports, the Big Ten is pushing for a 24- to 28-team playoff. Yes, you're reading that right, there are no typos. Twenty-four to 28 teams. The 28-team playoff plan would feature seven automatic bids for the Big Ten and SEC, five automatic bids for the ACC and Big 12, two for Group of Six squads and a pair of at-large bids. The proposed idea generated plenty of feedback from college football fans, and it seems the majority has spoken. Big Ten reportedly floating radical new College Football Playoff idea

The future of the College Football Playoff has been a key topic of discussion all offseason. ESPN secured a six-year, $7.8 billion contract that ensures the network will remain the sole media rights holder of the event through the 2031-32 season in March of 2024. But, whether or not the CFP stays at a 12-team model or expands has been one of the hot button issues of college football. After plenty of back-and-forth and a spring and summer full of discussion and disagreements, the Big Ten has suddenly introduced a radical new idea for the CFP's future. According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, the Big Ten has floated the idea of massive expansion to the College Football Playoff that could bring the postseason field to 24 or 28 teams. While Thamel reports that the idea is in its very early stages, the proposal eliminates conference title games and offers a large number of auto bids for all four power leagues, sources said. In the proposed 28-team CFP model, the Big Ten and SEC would each get seven auto bids while the ACC and Big 12 would each receive five. There would be two auto bids for the non-Power 4 conferences and two at-large teams. The 28-team format would put 20 playoff games on campus, which would accentuate the success of that from last year's CFP. The CFP Committee would seed the field and pick the at-large teams. Per Thamel, Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti ran the idea by his conference Wednesday, sources said, and that it has begun being shared by others. In order to expand the playoff before the 2026 season, the expectation is that leaders need to reach a resolution before the end of this year. Momentum for a 16-team CFP format picked up steam throughout the spring, but leaders throughout college athletics haven't seen eye to eye on exactly how bids to a 16-team CFP would be awarded. The 5+11 model is supported by both the Big 12 and the ACC and it gained more support from the SEC after the league's spring meetings. The 5+11 model would include the five highest-ranked conference champions and 11 at-large bids. Another 16-team CFP model featured the Big Ten and SEC each receiving four automatic bids, the ACC and Big 12 receiving a pair of automatic qualifiers, one bid to the Group of 6 champion and then three at-large bids.
