Yahoo07-04-2025
Passengers set to sail on a car ferry to and from the Isle of Wight are facing delays and cancellations.
Red Funnel said the "technical issue" meant sailings between Southampton and East Cowes on the Isle of Wight were disrupted.
Foot passengers are being advised to travel on the Southampton-West Cowes high-speed service which is unaffected.
Passengers planning to travel on Monday are advised to check Red Funnel's timetable.
On Saturday, passengers also faced disruption after vehicle ferry Red Eagle broke down, having just returned to service.
A number of sailings were cancelled during the morning, with the ferry firm apologising for inconvenience to passengers.
The Red Jet passenger-only crossing takes 28 minutes, the vehicle ferry about an hour.

Man to swim, cycle and run around Isle of Wight three times in 72 hours

An endurance athlete is set to tackle a world-first feat for charity. Matthew Dawson will circumnavigate the Isle of Wight three times in 72 hours, with one lap each dedicated to swimming, cycling, and running. His bold mission is aimed at raising funds for Access Sport, a national charity that champions inclusive community sports. The challenge, starting on August 23, will see Matthew cover more than 310km, including a 100km open water swim, a 105km road cycle, and a 107km ultra-marathon. "Every donation helps create safe, welcoming spaces for children who've been left out for too long." The funds raised will contribute towards Access Sport's goal of supporting 50,000 young people annually by 2027. The charity focuses on empowering disabled and disadvantaged young people. Tsunami warning downgraded in Hawaii, but dangers remain. What tourists should know.

The tsunami threat for Hawaii has been downgraded from a warning to an advisory, but travelers shouldn't rush back to the beach just yet. "Stay away from beaches, shorelines, and out of the ocean," Oahu Emergency Management posted on X, formerly Twitter. Evacuation orders have been lifted, but residents and visitors are urged to remain cautious near the coast. In an email, Hawaii's Visitors and Convention Bureau said, "hazardous conditions may persist—including strong currents and localized coastal flooding." Here's what travelers in Hawaii or heading there soon should know. Airline travel waivers Most major airlines are offering impacted customers the chance to rebook existing flights without penalty. American Airlines' waiver applies to flights to, from and through Honolulu, Kahului (Maui), Kona and Lihue (Kauai) as well Tokyo through July 31. Hawaiian Airlines' waiver applies to flights to and from Honolulu, Kahului (Maui), Kona and Lihue (Kauai) through July 30. Southwest Airlines' waiver applies to flight to, from and through Hilo on the island of Hawaii, Honolulu, Kahului (Maui), Kona and Lihue (Kauai) through July 30. United Airlines' Waiver applies to airports in Honolulu, Kahului (Maui), Kona and Lihuʻe (Kauai) through July 30. Travelers should reach out to their airlines about rescheduling if needed. Visitors were urged to monitor conditions, but no closures were mentioned. Haleakalā National Park on Maui didn't have any tsunami-related closures listed as of July 30. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park closed its coastal areas on the Big Island on July 29. "Chain of Craters Road is closed past Kealakomo to all use until further notice," the park posted on X. Pearl Harbor National Monument's website said its Oahu visitor center and USS Arizona memorial programs were running as scheduled. Tourists may want to confirm operations for any destinations they plan to visit in Hawaii on July 30, just in case.
