A Saudi citizen has died after drowning in Lake Geneva, Switzerland, the Saudi Consulate General in Geneva confirmed on Sunday. The consulate issued an official statement saying it is closely coordinating with Swiss authorities to complete all necessary procedures for the repatriation of the body back to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
No further details have been released regarding the identity of the deceased or the specific circumstances surrounding the drowning. The consulate did not indicate whether the individual was accompanied, nor did it provide any information about the nature or status of an investigation.
In its statement, posted to its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the consulate expressed 'sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy' to the grieving family.
It emphasized that all consular staff are involved in supporting the family during this difficult time and working to ensure the body's safe and respectful return home.
Lake Geneva, one of Europe's largest and most visited lakes, is a popular destination for tourists from around the world, including families from the Gulf region. While generally safe, the lake has areas with deep waters and unpredictable currents, and swimming in unmonitored zones can pose risks.

A Second Tragedy: Father and Son Swept Away in Brienz Lake
This is not the first such tragedy involving Saudi tourists in Switzerland this year. In a deeply emotional incident earlier in July, 2024, Dr. Abdullah Alanazi, a respected Saudi academic, drowned while attempting to save his two-year-old son in Brienz Lake, near the Giessbach Waterfalls in the Swiss Alps.
Dr. Alanazi was on a family holiday when the incident occurred. While taking photographs by the scenic waterfalls, his son, Abdulaziz, reportedly slipped and fell into the water.
In a desperate effort to rescue his child, Dr. Alanazi jumped in after him. Both were swept away by powerful currents as his wife and daughter looked on in horror.
Rescue teams, including helicopters and boats, responded swiftly and conducted an intensive two-day search. Dr. Alanazi's body was eventually recovered. The search for young Abdulaziz remains ongoing.
Dr. Alanazi was the head of the research unit at the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Riyadh and was widely respected in his field.
Although unrelated, both incidents have brought renewed attention to water safety among travelers visiting Switzerland. Alpine lakes, rivers, and waterfalls can appear calm but often conceal dangerous conditions like slippery rocks, sudden drops, and fast-moving water.

What? Man gets praise email at work — Hours later, he was fired

Sometimes, life at the workplace is nothing short of a rollercoaster ride— full of highs, lows, and turns you never see coming. For one dedicated employee, the ride went from a peak of recognition to a sudden, crushing drop. The experience was shared by a man in a Reddit post recently and it soon gained much attention online. In the post, the man shared that he had been the quiet backbone of his company, working in the night shift for almost three years. He worked without complaint, without a raise, and without expecting much beyond fair treatment. Then, finally, recognition came. A formal email praising his commitment and performance landed in his inbox. It was a small but meaningful validation of all those sleepless nights. Encouraged by the positive feedback, he decided to ask for something he had patiently waited for— a salary increase. After all, wasn't that the natural next step after years of loyal service? But instead of a conversation about his worth, he received a call that would change everything. The company accused him of using inappropriate language towards a client during a phone call. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn More - How Watching Videos Can Boost Your Income TheDaddest Undo by Taboola by Taboola Without warning, they informed him he was being terminated— effective immediately. Shocked and confused, he pushed back. He asked for proof— surely there was a recording. The company routinely kept such calls for quality checks. But this time, the answer was a cold, 'No.' They refused to share any evidence and ended the conversation abruptly, leaving him with nothing but questions. The next day brought an even stranger twist. The owner called him personally— not to apologise, but to add to the confusion. On the one hand, the owner praised his dedication and even said he believed in his potential. On the other, he confirmed the decision: his career with the company was over. And then came the kicker— the owner admitted there was no recorded call to support the misconduct claim. No proof. No clarity. Just the end. Feeling wronged, the employee took his story to Reddit. The post struck a nerve. Many chimed in with advice— call an employment lawyer, keep every email and message, don't speak directly to the company again. Many pointed out that while 'at-will' employment laws allow employers to fire someone without cause, making false accusations could open the door for legal action. His case is still unfolding, but his story is a stark reminder: In the corporate world, praise doesn't always protect you. Even when you're doing everything right, your career can turn upside down in a single phone call. Always know your rights. Always keep records. And never assume that recognition means your position is safe. 'Suspicion cannot replace proof': Chhattisgarh HC upholds acquittal in explosives case

Representative Image RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh High Court upheld a Bastar trial court's 2016 decision to acquit two men accused of possessing tiffin bombs and being active members of a banned Maoist organisation. The court observed that 'suspicion, no matter how strong, cannot take the place of proof.' A division bench of Justice Sanjay S Agrawal and Justice Radhakishan Agrawal dismissed the state's appeal against the acquittal of Muchaki Deva (38) and Vijja Podyami (35). They were booked under the Chhattisgarh Vishesh Jan Suraksha Adhiniyam, 2005, and the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. According to the prosecution, both men were apprehended in September 2015 near Bhadrimahu village, Bastar, during a search operation, and explosive devices were recovered based on their statements. However, the trial court found contradictions in the seizure proceedings and noted the absence of an FSL report to confirm that the seized material was explosive. The HC, after examining witness statements, found 'major contradictions and omissions' in the testimonies of the investigating officer and two seizure witnesses. The bench noted inconsistencies about the location of the seizure and confirmed that all seizure documentation was signed at the police station rather than at the spot. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo The court emphasised that the prosecution failed to produce clinching evidence linking the accused to the alleged explosives. 'The entire case was based on suspicion, but suspicion cannot substitute for proof,' the judgment said. Concluding that the trial court's acquittal was 'just and proper,' the High Court said there was no reason to interfere with the order, thereby dismissing the state's appeal. Labubu craze turns costly as thieves swipe Rs 26 lakh worth of plush toys from LA store

A group of burglars broke into One Stop Sales in La Puente, a city east of Los Angeles, in the early hours of Wednesday. Their haul? Thousands of dollars' worth of Labubu dolls , the mischievous, fluffy creatures that have taken the world by storm this year. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to the burglary at 1:29 a.m. Deputies found several boxes of Labubu dolls stolen, valued by police at around $7,000. But Joanna Avendano , co-owner of the store, told ABC News Local 7 the loss was far greater. 'There was a lot taken, maybe like around $30,000 or more of inventory,' she said. They bypassed other items in the store, focusing solely on these dolls. Avendano suspects the theft was premeditated. 'A suspicious truck was parked outside the store on Tuesday night,' she said. 'I suspect the burglars were monitoring the store's social media account, as we had just announced a restock in Labubus, which are selling quickly.' The store shared security footage on Instagram showing four masked men breaking in, smashing glass, and hauling boxes of the sought-after dolls. 'Today we got robbed, and they took all of our inventory trashed our store, we are still in shock, if you guys can share this post please and help us find these thief's!' the store wrote on social media. Live Events The getaway vehicle was a stolen Toyota Tacoma , found abandoned shortly after the crime. Why are labubu dolls so valuable? Labubu dolls come exclusively from Pop Mart, a Chinese retailer known for its 'blind box' collectibles . Buyers purchase boxes without knowing which design or colour of Labubu they will receive, which adds a thrill to collecting. The dolls retail at up to $500 each on the store's website. This price tag has sparked a frenzy among collectors, pushing resale values even higher—often by thousands of dollars. The craze has also bred a black market for fake Labubus. Celebrity endorsements have propelled the trend further. Stars such as Rihanna and Lisa from K-pop sensation Blackpink have been seen with the dolls, turning them into must-have fashion accessories. Fans often clip these quirky plush toys to handbags or backpacks. This burglary isn't just about stolen merchandise . It highlights a growing issue: when viral trends skyrocket, they can attract unwanted attention, including crime. The Labubu dolls have become more than toys—they're prized collectibles, status symbols, and now, targets. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed an investigation is underway. They appealed for anyone with information to step forward. Meanwhile, One Stop Sales continues to cope with the loss and hopes to rebuild after what Avendano called a devastating theft.
