PUTRAJAYA - The Court of Appeal today upheld a 12-year prison sentence against Rumah Bonda founder Siti Bainun Ahd Razali for neglecting and abusing a teenage girl with Down syndrome known as Bella, four years ago.
A three-member panel, comprising Justices Datuk Azman Abdullah, Datuk Azmi Ariffin and Datuk Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz, dismissed the 33-year-old's final appeal against the conviction and 12-year jail sentence handed down by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on May 3, 2023.

GOF Seizes Timber Worth Over RM19 Million In Tanah Merah
KOTA BHARU, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The 8th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) seized various types of timber worth over RM19 million following checks at two sawmills in Tanah Merah yesterday. GOF Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the first seizure involved 33 bundles of timber, round logs, timber-processing equipment and a lorry at a sawmill near Jalan Bukit Kechik. Inquest Into Zara Qairina's Death Begins Tomorrow
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The Kota Kinabalu Coroner's Court in Sabah has fixed tomorrow (Aug 18) to begin an inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir. In a statement today, the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) said the inquest was requested by the Sabah State Prosecution Director, in accordance with subsection 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code [Act 593]. 'Given that this case is of public interest, the department will seek to expedite the proceedings to ensure justice is served, not only for the family of the late Zara Qairina but also in the interest of the public,' it said.
