Malaysian, Omani DPMs meet to strengthen bilateral relations
The closed-door session saw both deputy prime ministers discussing ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Malaysia and Oman, as well as sharing views on several current geopolitical issues of mutual concern.
The high-level summit, hosted by Malaysia in its capacity as ASEAN Chair, brought together top leaders from both regional blocs to deepen strategic cooperation across political, economic and security spheres.
The ASEAN-GCC Summit serves as a platform to promote interregional dialogue and collaboration amid rising global uncertainties and shifting geopolitical dynamics.
The 46th ASEAN Summit, was held under Malaysia's 2025 Chairmanship theme, 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'.

PETALING JAYA: As Malaysia approaches this year's Merdeka celebrations, the G25 group of prominent Malaysians has expressed concern over what it describes as attempts by certain politicians to politicise an incident involving the national flag. In a statement, G25 warned that turning the matter into an opportunity for public confrontation instead of reasoned discussion risked drawing opposing groups to the same location and creating a flashpoint for conflict. The group also urged authorities to act decisively to mediate between parties, maintain public order and prevent any escalation that could threaten peace. It noted that with Malaysia holding the Asean chairmanship this year, the eyes of the region and the international community were on the country, making it all the more important to lead by example. 'This Merdeka, let us set aside political theatre and recommit ourselves to the values that brought our nation into being, which are the respect for the rule of law and human rights, care for one another and the determination to keep Malaysia a safe and harmonious home for all,' G25 said.

Air Kelantan to settle RM61 million electricity arrears to TNB in stages
KOTA BARU: The Kelantan government has acknowledged that Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (Air Kelantan) owes Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) RM61 million in outstanding electricity bills and will settle the amount in stages. State Infrastructure, Water and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Dr Izani Husin said the arrears were partly due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the Movement Control Order, which hindered bill collection, coupled with some residents withholding payment during frequent water supply disruptions. "TNB has met with us to discuss possible solutions, but no agreement has been finalised. "We will discuss further to determine a repayment schedule. With Air Kelantan's improved management, we are confident the debt will be cleared according to the agreed timeline," he told reporters after the weekly state executive council meeting at Kompleks Kota Darulnaim today. He added that Air Kelantan had previously settled older electricity arrears according to schedule, but several districts were found to still have outstanding amounts. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof revealed that Air Kelantan's arrears with TNB had reached about RM61 million as of June 30.

PETRA to enhance National Water Policy for sustainable supply in Malaysia
KOTA BHARU: The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA) is prioritising the National Water Policy to ensure safe and sustainable water supply nationwide. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stated that this initiative will bolster water security and position Malaysia as a dynamic water hub. He highlighted the policy's potential to drive economic growth, create jobs, and support research and development. Fadillah emphasised the Department of Irrigation and Drainage's (JPS) role in fostering federal-state collaboration for integrated water management. He stressed the need for an efficient information system to safeguard water resources and ecosystem sustainability. Speaking at the 2025 JPS Senior Managers and District Engineers Conference, he reiterated PETRA's commitment under the 13th Malaysia Plan. The minister noted that climate change and shifting rainfall patterns make water security a critical focus. Thrust A7 of the 13MP aims to strengthen flood mitigation through innovative and integrated strategies. Fadillah urged JPS to lead in sustainable water management to address future challenges. He called for stronger policy facilitation at state and district levels to prevent gaps in water project execution. Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud also attended the conference. - Bernama
