Beautiful seaside town named one of UK's cheapest coastal gems with £194k homes
Moving to the coast doesn't have to cost a fortune, especially in this charming seaside town. Demand for coastal properties has spiked by a staggering 115 per cent compared to pre-pandemic levels, with swathes of Brits ready to ditch the city for a more laid-back life filled with golden sands and fish and chips. However, the sudden demand combined with limited availability has led to house prices skyrocketing in certain areas.
Take Sandbanks, for example - a stunning neighbourhood in Poole, Dorset with crystal-clear waters, golden beaches, that's become somewhat of an A-list magnet in recent years. Here, average house properties cost a whopping £965,708 - more than triple the national average.
If the near-million price tag is slightly out of budget, don't worry - as the Co-Operative Bank has analysed recent data to find the most affordable UK coastal towns for both buying and renting. In England, Morecambe came out top, with average house prices at just £194,295.
"This Lancashire gem captures the essence of the English seaside, offering panoramic views over the seafront – as well as some of the most affordable house prices in the country," the bank said. "The average house price here is actually lower than in Oban at £194,295, working out as 7.44 times the average annual income.
"However, rent prices in Morecambe are slightly higher, at an average of £821 per month. That's 37.7 per cent of the average monthly income."

Boasting five miles of soft golden sand and an award-winning seafront promenade that looks out onto the stunning Lakeland Fells, Morecambe was once branded one of the worst seaside towns in the country. Now, it hopes to take on the hyped-up coastal resorts of Cornwall and bring its glory days back.
"Morecambe offers you the chance to enjoy the many pleasures of the seaside, whether it's flying kites, building sandcastles or enjoying the views across the bay," Hails Visit Lancashire. "Stroll along Morecambe's promenade with an ice cream or have fun seeing it on two wheels, before grabbing a picnic and heading on down to the beach for a spot of sandcastle making or kite flying."
Must-see attractions include the TERN project, which features a series of sculptures situated along Morecambe's seafront - from steel cormorants, gannets and razorbills to the statue of Eric Morecambe, which was unveiled by the late Queen in 1999. The Art Deco Midland Hotel has also undergone restoration in recent years - making it one of the town's most impressive structures.
Featuring four modern 30s-inspired rooms, six rooftop suites, a top-notch restaurant and ultra-stylish bar, Midland is a great base for exploring Morecambe, or for splurging out on a fancy afternoon tea while soaking in the views. Prices start from £145 per night.

Scotch Whisky fans say 'oui' to unique wine experience at Lanarkshire distillery
Jackton Distillery have partnered with a family-owned vineyard in France's Loire Valley to release a range of wine available only through the distillery. A prominent Lanarkshire whisky distillery has seen unprecedented demand from whisky fans looking to attend a brand new wine experience. Jackton Distillery, who make their own critically-acclaimed craft Scotch whiskies and gins, have partnered with a family-owned vineyard in France's Loire Valley to release a range of wine available only through the distillery. Tickets for the first chance to meet the East Kilbride-based distillery's wine experts, alongside a pairing of selected French cheeses, sold out shortly after being put on sale - with a long wait-list forming for any cancellations. The distillery have now announced a second wine event to meet demand, to take place on August 9. The demand for the RAER Alliance range, the name of which refers to the historic 'Auld Alliance' between Scotland and France, has been driven by increased interest from consumers for wines with a UK connection. 'The modern UK wine customer is now looking to support local every time they buy - just look at the growing trend south of the border for English wine,' said RAER Alliance's director, Peter East, 30. 'With the best will in the world, we couldn't grow our own vines in Scotland – we don't exactly get Mediterranean weather in Glasgow – so it was amazing to have French winemaker Sébastien Fricker bring the French connection to us.' 'I'm not at all surprised that our first wine tasting completely sold out. This is a one-of-a-kind experience for whisky fans, and let me be totally honest here – the wines are simply 'magnifique'.' There are currently six wines in the RAER Alliance range, all originating from the Domaine des Elettes vineyard in La Loire. These include a sparkling AOP Crémant de Loire – the Loire Valley's version of a Champagne – which is made from hand-harvested grapes and traditionally aged for twelve months in Inox vats. Bottles can be purchased direct from the distillery, or from select wine retailers in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Only a limited number of bottles are available for purchase each year. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Sign up to our newsletters here.

How to upcycle garden furniture in 3 steps There's really no need to spend a fortune on new garden furniture. Rebecca Miller, Fabulous' Associate Editor and gardening enthusiast has shared her tips to transforming grotty second-hand furniture into pieces that look brand new. "Recycling centres, dump shops, charity shops and Facebook Marketplace are brilliant places to pick up second hand items for cheap. And all you need to do is have a spare afternoon to spruce them up - and it's something you can get your kids involved in! Clean Everything looks better after a good scrub. If in doubt, opt for a simple washing-up liquid and warm water solution, and get to work removing all the grime and dirt. If the piece of furniture can withstand some pressure, why not pressure wash it? Leave it to dry, then you can see what you're dealing with. Fix-up If the item of furniture is a little wonky, or you're unsure how sturdy it is, take a moment to check all the fixtures and either replace them or tighten them up. Colour The quickest way to transform a piece of furniture is with a lick of paint. When choosing a new colour, base it on shades that will fit with your existing garden design and plants - but most importantly, pick a colour that will bring a smile to your face." Football fans rage over TNT Sports price hike just weeks before the Premier League starts – act now to avoid increase
You'll have to pay £3 extra but there's a way to keep your bill down if you're prepared to lose some shows OWN GOAL Football fans rage over TNT Sports price hike just weeks before the Premier League starts – act now to avoid increase Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) BRITS itching for the next Premier League season to kick off have been dealt a fresh blow to their pockets with subscription prices rising again. TNT Sports has announced a £3 monthly bill hike starting today. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 There is a way to avoid the price hike - but you'll have to lose some shows Credit: getty 3 That means the existing package will now cost £33.99 a month instead of £30.99. TNT Sports will show 52 Premier League matches during the 2025/26 season. Their first is Aston Villa v Newcastle United on August 16. Meanwhile, Sky Sports will broadcast the most with the rights to 215 games. "Taking the absolute p*** now," one frustrated viewer raged on X. "What a bargain hey? I'll be cancelling," another raged. The move comes as part of a shake-up to the Discovery+ packages, with a new tier now available. This provides a way to keep the old TNT Sports subscription price of £30.99 but it will mean sacrificing some of the content you had access to previously. And you'll need to manually switch within your account to advantage if that's of interest. In an email to customers, the broadcaster said: "Thank you for being a discovery+ subscriber. Premier League's most expensive season ticket prices revealed with Man Utd just seventh highest "We want to let you know about changes to your subscription plan. "On your next billing date on or after 28 August 2025, your monthly discovery+ Premium (incl. TNT Sports) subscription price will increase to £33.99/month. "Your plan name will also change to 'TNT Sports & Entertainment'." So how can you save? Previously, there were only two tiers, Discovery+ Basic which had no sport at all and remains at £3.99 per month. Meanwhile Discovery+ Premium had all that plus TNT Sports. Wedged between the pair is now a third option, Discovery+ TNT Sports. This essentially provides access to everything TNT Sports has to offer, including Premier League and UEFA Champions League, Autumn Nations Series and Moto GP. But you won't be able to watch Discovery+'s non-sport content available for £30.99 per month with reality from TLC, documentaries from Discovery Channel and more. If you're not fussed about the non-sport shows, it might be worthwhile downgrading to this to avoid the price hike. Premier League fixtures in full 15/08/2025 20:00 Liverpool v A.F.C.
