Strictly Come Dancing star has 'dangerous' reunion with Giovanni Pernice after axe

Daily Mirror07-05-2025

Kai Widdrington reunited with his axed Strictly Come Dancing co-star Giovanni Pernice as the pair continue to work with each other following the Italian dancer's scandal
Strictly Come Dancing's Kai Widdrington has reunited with his axed co-star Giovanni Pernice, in a move he labelled "dangerous". The professional dancers are back working together on a new project, months after Giovanni's sudden departure.
He was caught up in scandal following his 2023 stint with actress Amanda Abbington, who made a series of claims about bullying behaviour. Giovanni decided to take a break from the public eye following the scandal.

However, he recently won the Italian version of Strictly and has returned to the UK for a series of dance projects. His passion is clearly still alive as he performed a sold-out show at the London Palladium as part of his Last Dance tour.

Now, Giovanni has teamed up with Kai, who is about to head out on his own tour. Gioavnni shared a snap of Kai on the dancefloor as he gushed: "Just watched a full run of his brand new show lead by @kaiwidd...
"...and let me tell you!! They are super ready." He then added a link urging fans to buy tickets. Kai also shared his own post as he reunited with Giovanni.
The pair sat next to each other in a dance studio as Kai wrote: "The team," while tagging Giovanni. He decided to add the Michael Jackson track Dangerous over the photo.
Back in January, Giovanni revealed he was working with Kai as he returned to British soil. Kai shared a video from a London rehearsal studio about his upcoming 2025 tour.
In the clip, he said: "Hello everyone, it's Kai Widdrington here from Strictly Come Dancing. I'm here in London getting ready for my tour - Evolution - in 2025 and I would like to introduce you to one of the creative producers from my tour. He's very shy but you may know who he is."

His mate Giovanni popped into the frame adding: "I am very shy. I can't help myself. I can't help myself." He rounded off with a cheerful statement: "Ladies and gents, we're back together and it feels good!"
The video was paired with a caption hyping up fans which read: "Introducing one of the creative producers of the EVOLUTION team. A familiar face I think you may know."

However, things haven't been so easy for the pair since Giovanni's Strictly drama. Last summer, Kai pulled out of a scheduled dance class with Giovanni, which set fans back £100 per class. It was reported a scheduling clash was the reason for the cancellation.
Kai isn't the only Strictly star to be showing their support to Giovanni, however. Head judge Shirley Ballas has continued to stand by the star and had a sweet reunion this week.
Shirley made sure to support Giovanni as she watched from the audience and made sure to catch up with him backstage afterwards on the final night of his tour.

Sharing photos from the reunion, Shirley said: "Amazing and beyond the stars… Gio set the night on fire last night @giovannipernice.
"Congratulations on a superb closing show to if last night is anything to go by a remarkable last dance tour. So many fabulous numbers, dancers, singers to which all were revived with standing ovations.
"You entertain, you inspire and you bring the house down. I only hope when I do my one night at the Palladium that I could wish for a reception like that. Truly amazing."

Ghost hunt event to take place at Llanyrafon Manor Farm

Llanyrafon Manor Farm, in Cwmbran, is hosting a 12-hour lockdown and fear ball ghost hunt. Those brave enough are invited to bring their own bedding and spend the night inside the reportedly haunted building. (Image: Supplied) The event will include a paranormal investigation with Tracey and Nigel Turner, séance technique experiments, and a free exploration of the site's three acres of grounds. Visitors will have access to most areas, including the Tudor kitchen, Great Chamber, and attic bedrooms. The history of Llanyrafon Manor Farm dates back to the mid-1500s, and it's thought that a timber-framed medieval building stood on the site as far back as the 13th century. The site was possibly a farm for the monks of Llantarnam Abbey, and some of its remains can still be seen today. The Griffiths family owned the manor for centuries, with the earliest member of the family appearing to be Walter Griffith of Llanyrafon, who practised as an attorney and left a will dated November 20, 1629. The manor once stood in a thousand acres of ground, and during the First World War, three Italian prisoners of war worked on the farm. In the Second World War, members of the Women's Land Army worked the farm, learning how to perform tasks including ploughing, milking, harvesting, and digging. Today, Llanyrafon Manor Farm stands as grand as ever, its history once again showcased for all to enjoy. A free breakfast and unlimited teas, coffees, hot chocolate, bottled waters, juice, and biscuits will be available. The event is not open to pregnant ladies or anyone intending to consume drugs or alcohol. Over in Abersychan, Garndiffaith Millennium Hall will host a murder mystery evening. (Image: Supplied) The event, which will run from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday, June 7, invites attendees to come along and solve the mystery. A ploughman's supper is included in the ticket price of £6.50. For those interested in the murder mystery evening, tickets will be available from the hall or via Eventbrite. Flash Back will travel across the border to the Olway Inn, Usk, on Saturday, June 7. (Image: Supplied) The band will perform rock and pop hits from the 60s to the 00s, promising an evening of dance and sing-along for all. Tintern Abbey will also be hosting a historical event over both days of the weekend. (Image: Supplied) Visitors will be able to discover all about monastic life in the high medieval period at one of the nation's largest monasteries of the time. The Chapter of Stronghold re-enactment group will portray the lives of monastic people, including monks, nuns, and laypeople as they write, pray, live, and eat at Tintern Abbey. There will be authentic cooking, manuscript writing, a holy reliquary, and more. Normal admission prices apply for this event.

She captioned her shots: "A little girls trip with Sue." Fans were quick to comment on her holiday snaps, with one saying: "Wow u look incredible". Another said: "Still stunning after all these years!" Louise found love again almost two years ago with boyfriend Drew, 41. Since then, they've appeared inseparable, often enjoying music events and spending their summers attending festivals, including Glastonbury and Boardmasters. If Louise hasn't been going to festivals, she's been performing at them, with the singer launching a comeback with her Greatest Hits celebrating her career to date. She's also just released her fifth solo album Confessions. The Strictly winner was with ex Jamie Redknapp for 20 years and they share two sons. 'What's great is (Drew) is brilliant on a friendship level with the boys,' she told The Sun last month. Louise Redknapp says she felt 'the lowest a human could get' when she split from husband Jamie and 'almost gave up' 'They get on great with him. And that, for me, is super-important. There's just a real mutual respect there. Obviously Beau is still at school, but we spend a lot of time together.' The nine-year age gap inevitably led to Drew being described as her 'toyboy' and Louise being referred to as a 'cougar'. But it's 'water off a duck's back,' she added. 'For me, age is irrelevant – within reason – but he's not 22. I think it's more about the person and the life experiences and the connection that's important.' However, Louise isn't thinking about walking down the aisle a second time. 'Oh, I'm not even thinking that far ahead. I'm not even going there. Manifesting is a real hint to Drew. 'I'm not going to lie and say it isn't. But it's also a life lesson to be present in the here and now, so I'm not thinking down the line. I'm enjoying my relationship, my kids, my album and my life." After their split her ex Jamie went on to marry model Frida Andersson in 2021. 5 Louise with boyfriend Drew Credit: Instagram

Arlene Phillips shares reaction to Strictly fans who mistake her for much younger judge

Arlene Phillips shares reaction to Strictly fans who mistake her for much younger judge Dame Arlene Phillips says fans are always mixing her up with her friend on Strictly Come Dancing, who is 18 years her junior, years on from her controversial axe from the BBC show Arlene Phillip said she's often having to clarify who she is to fans (Image: undefined via Getty Images ) Dame Arlene Phillips is arguably the first choreographer to become a household name in Britain. Her dance ensemble, Hot Gossip, set the 1980s alight and sparked a lingerie-as-outerwear fashion trend, echoed by stars such as Sabrina Carpenter today. While those days may be behind her, Dame Arlene still remains as one of the dance industry's most well-known faces. In a recent chat, the former Strictly Come Dancing judge said fans often mistake her for the programme's current head judge, Shirley Ballas, 64. She shared: "People come running up shouting, 'Shirley! Shirley!' and I have to say, 'No, I'm the other one!'". ‌ Despite the mix-up, at 82, Arlene may find solace in being compared to someone nearly two decades her junior. ‌ Fans sometimes mistake Arlien for her pal Shirley Ballas [L] (Image: undefined via Getty Images ) Arlene endured a highly publicised departure from the Strictly Come Dancing jury in her sixties, which ignited heated debates over sexism and ageism within the media. The contentious casting change led over 2,000 viewers to lodge complaints with the BBC, and even drew political ire as Deputy Labour Leader Harriet Harman lambasted the BBC's choice as "absolutely shocking." Article continues below Throughout the uproar, Arlene chose to concentrate on her own pursuits: "I wrapped myself in my world and got on with life," she told The i newspaper. Arlene made a name for herself with dance troupe Hot Gossip (Image: undefined via Getty Images ) Many still approach her to opine that she shouldn't have been dismissed from the series after its 2008 season. ‌ Reflecting on her reaction to being replaced by Alesha Dixon, Arlene expressed initial anger but pointed out her swift rebound. "I gave myself 48 hours to kick, scream, cry and sob, and eat scones with cream and jam, then I made myself wake up and get on with it," she added. "I loved being on Strictly. It's very dear to my heart that I was there right from the start." ‌ Arlene continued, highlighting her resilience: "I'm a grown up so when life comes along and it doesn't go the way you want, you just get on with it." Bruno Tonioli, Arlene Phillips, Len Goodman and Craig Revel Horwood on Strictly (Image: BBC ) Meanwhile, a previous female colleague at the BBC conveyed to The Mirror their concerns about ageism, stating: "There seems to be a system that gives women no chance on air unless they are below a certain age." Article continues below They further lamented: "Arlene may have a job on The One Show, but she is being pushed out of Strictly even though she was an excellent judge with great knowledge on dancing. There is no really good reason for it." At the time, the BBC denied that ageism played any role in Arlene being replaced. In defence of the decision to bring in former Strictly champion Alesha as Arlene's replacement, BBC One controller Jay Hunt asserted: "Yes, a lot of people were upset about Arlene but the flip side is, in Alesha, we have a young, black, woman presenter, at the heart of the Saturday night BBC One schedule."
