The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has unveiled a major leap in its digital transformation strategy, introducing fully automated, AI-driven work permit services as part of its mission to deliver best-in-class services for both private sector companies and individual users.
Underpinning this transformation is MoHRE's use of artificial intelligence to automatically issue work permits for establishments, eliminating manual applications and slashing document requirements by 100%. The move represents a paradigm shift in the Ministry's service delivery model, setting a new benchmark for efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
Seamless Smart Services: AI Takes the Lead
As part of its broader vision to enhance labour market competitiveness, MoHRE has rolled out an extensive suite of smart and automated services. These include:
Real-time issuance, cancellation, and amendment of work permits and employment contracts, all handled entirely by AI systems, without human intervention.
Issuance of 'To Whom It May Concern' certificates for domestic workers, available in multiple languages via MoHRE's digital platforms, removing the need for physical center visits.
Online cancellation of absence-from-work complaints for both domestic and private sector workers.
MoHRE has also streamlined legal and administrative processes:
Through its
Labour Consultation
and Claims Center, the Ministry provides simplified access to legal guidance and claims filing.
Farm and ranch owners can now open establishment files digitally, using intuitive and secure tools provided by the Ministry.
Zero Bureaucracy: A Policy in Action
These innovations are a key component of the UAE government's 'Zero Bureaucracy Program', and adhere to the 'Ask Once' principle, a national commitment to eliminate repetitive paperwork and make services fully automated and user-friendly.
For example:
New work permits for domestic workers are now issued automatically through integrated government systems, requiring no additional documentation or physical procedures.
This aligns with the UAE's National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, where digital transformation and operational agility are prioritized across public sector services. Today, MoHRE offers more than 100 digital services, all accessible 24/7 via its official website and mobile app, maintaining the highest standards in security, reliability, and usability.
Measurable Results and Enhanced Engagement
MoHRE has made notable strides in executing the Zero Bureaucracy Program, aiming to:
Increase government efficiency
Enhance service responsiveness
Improve overall service quality
Elevate the UAE's global competitiveness
A key driver of this progress is 'Tawasul', MoHRE's official communication platform.

Vietnam approves 90 percent tax rate on beer, strong alcohol by 2031

File photo HANOI: Vietnam's lawmakers approved raising the tax on beer and strong alcoholic beverages on Saturday to 90 percent by 2031 from the current 65 percent, state media said. The tax rate on liquor with more than 20 percent alcohol content and all beers will rise five percentage points yearly from 2027 before reaching 90 percent in 2031 under the National Assembly's new legislation. Levies will also increase by five percentage points annually for other drinks with alcohol content below 20 percent, which are currently subject to a 35 percent tax, reaching 60 percent by 2031. "The gradual annual tax increase is not intended to change behaviour but rather to help consumers adapt more easily," Hoang Van Cuong, a member of parliament, told the assembly in March. Lawmakers also approved a new levy of eight percent on beverages containing more than five grams of sugar per 100 millilitres, taking effect in 2027 and increasing to 10 percent in 2028. Beer sales in Vietnam took a hit following the introduction of a strict zero-alcohol rule for drivers in 2019. However, Dan Martin, an International Business Advisor at Dezan Shira & Associates, said Vietnam's drinking culture has roots "that run far too deep to be uprooted by policy alone". "Rather than spelling doom for the beer market, these measures represent more of a speed bump than a roadblock," he told AFP. Martin said that behavioural shifts were already underway, with more Vietnamese people consuming alcohol at home rather than at traditional venues such as bars. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Exclusive Pre-Launch Offers – SPR Gurgaon Signature Global Book Now Undo The trend "isn't just consumers reacting to new rules", he said. Vietnam ranked seventh globally in beer consumption in 2022, according to a report by Kirin Holdings, a Japanese beer company. Nearly 41,000 Vietnamese people die each year due to alcohol consumption, according to the health ministry.

Why this German state is banning Microsoft Teams and other tools from its government operations

The German state of Schleswig-Holstein is set to ban Microsoft Teams and other software programs developed by the tech giant from its government operations, a report claims. This change will reportedly affect nearly all civil servants, police officers and judges within less than three months. With this move, it wants to 'take back control' over data storage and ensure 'digital sovereignty,' Dirk Schroedter, the German state's digitalisation minister, said to the news agency AFP. While speaking on a video call via an open-source German program, Schroedter said, 'We're done with (Microsoft) Teams.' The report adds that this switch-over will impact about half of Schleswig-Holstein's 60,000 public servants, with nearly 30,000 teachers expected to follow in the coming years. How the German state is moving away from Microsoft tools According to the report, the state's transition to open-source software began in 2024. The initial phase involves replacing Microsoft Word and Excel with LibreOffice, similarly switching Outlook for emails and calendars with Open-Xchange. Over the coming years, a Linux-based operating system is also planned to be adopted to complete the shift away from Microsoft Windows. 'The geopolitical developments of the past few months have strengthened interest in the path that we've taken,' Schroedter said, noting that he had received requests for advice from around the globe by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villa For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search ads Learn More Undo 'The war in Ukraine revealed our energy dependencies, and now we see there are also digital dependencies,' he added. Schroedter highlighted that the Schleswig-Holstein government intends to move its data storage to a cloud platform outside Microsoft's control. He said the state prefers to use publicly owned German digital infrastructure instead of relying on an American provider, the report continued. This comes after concerns about the influence of major American tech firms in Europe. Microsoft is also facing scrutiny over its market dominance, stemming from its control of the Windows operating system and the widely used Office suite in the EU. In 2023, the European Union opened an antitrust investigation into Microsoft's practice of bundling Teams with its other business applications.

A proud Elon Musk shares how SpaceX started in a garage as its Falcon rockets complete 500th mission

SpaceX reached a landmark moment this week as it completed its 500th mission using its Falcon family of rockets. The achievement was marked by the successful launch of 26 Starlink satellites from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base on June 12 at 9:54 p.m. EDT. The event also triggered a wave of reflection, with Elon Musk sharing a nostalgic glimpse into SpaceX's early days. 500th Falcon Mission Marks Major Milestone The launch was part of the company's Starlink initiative, which aims to provide high-speed global internet access through a vast network of satellites. The 26 satellites deployed during the mission joined a growing constellation of over 7,600 already in low Earth orbit, making Starlink the largest satellite network ever developed. An hour after lift-off, SpaceX confirmed that the satellites had been deployed successfully. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the company highlighted the significance of the mission: by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo "Falcon completes its 500th overall mission! Congratulations to the entire SpaceX team for making the impossible possible on the road to rapidly reusable rockets !" Booster Returns After 15th Flight The Falcon 9 rocket used in this mission had a first-stage booster with the serial number B1081. This booster has now flown 15 times and once again returned to Earth safely, landing on the droneship Of Course I Still Love You stationed off the Southern California coast. While this is a remarkable achievement, the record for most launches by a Falcon 9 booster remains at 28. So far in 2025, SpaceX has launched 72 Falcon 9 missions, with 54 of them dedicated to expanding the Starlink network. Several of these satellites also carry direct-to-cell technology, enabling mobile texting and internet service through select smartphones and carriers. Elon Musk Reflects on Humble Beginnings As the company celebrated this major technical milestone, Elon Musk offered a moment of reflection. He posted an image on X showing him in a modest garage surrounded by early rocket parts with the caption: "How it started" The photo was taken in 2006 by Hans Koenigsmann, one of SpaceX's early engineering leaders, who commented on the post: "I am glad I took that picture in 2006." — elonmusk (@elonmusk) The 500th launch stands not just as a number, but as a marker of how far SpaceX has come since its humble beginnings. What started as an ambitious experiment in a garage has transformed into one of the most prolific and innovative spaceflight programs in history. SpaceX's rapid-fire launches, reusable rocket advancements, and expanding satellite networks underscore its continued impact on the global aerospace industry. With Musk's vision driving the mission forward, the journey from a garage setup to 500 Falcon launches seems like just the beginning.
