This year's competition was jam-packed with highs and lows, funny moments and even a performance from Daniel O'Donnell as viewers got to know all of the Roses that took part in the competition. However, it was South Australia Rose, Beth Mooney, who won the hearts of viewers when it was revealed she had suffered a huge family loss just days before the event. Beth, who grew up in Co Wexford, lost her beloved grandmother Lucy Lane on Friday, August, 15 - just one day before the live show began. Speaking to Beth live on air, Kathryn remarked: "See, we are all in awe of you. We really are, because you have had an incredibly difficult few days. Very unexpectedly, you buried your grandmother yesterday. And it's just, it was a shock for everybody. "And the fact that you were standing up here is incredible. And the fact that you have come and turned up with a smile on your face, you're amazing." An emotional Beth responded: "I'm doing well. I think it's a testimony to my family and to my grandma. She would never want me to miss out on the Rose of Tralee. "She was a very dramatic person, she was. So, to be up here is really representing her." Kathryn told the audience that Beth got to visit her grandmother one last time to show off her glamorous Rose of Tralee look. Beth said: "She was overwhelmed. She was so excited when she saw that sash. I even put it on her. I think she thought she was the one that was going to go up on stage." Rose of Tralee 2025 winner left in tears on stage as she's revealed as winner and RTE fans call her 'inspiring' Beth explained how her grandmother "loved the limelight" and was a part of a music society her entire life. The young Rose said: "She loved the stage, she loved performing, she loved singing. She grew up in that music world, the music world completely." Beth also opened up about being diagnosed with scoliosis at the young age of eleven. The Wexford native revealed: "I had surgery at 14, spinal fusion. Which is very late. I had to wait a certain amount of time because of the way scoliosis works, particularly as an adolescent, since you have to go through a lot before you can do it. 'SO PROUD' "You have to hit puberty before you go through it. So it's really important that they hit it at the right time." Kathryn added: "And you are living proof that with the correct surgery and early intervention, a life can be very different. Because dance is your life." And RTE viewers all flooded social media with love for the South Australia Rose. Gemma wrote on X: "What an inspiration Beth go girl." Lauren said: "That must have been so tough for Beth. Such a lovely young lady." Andrea remarked: "Beth is such an inspiration; her nan would be so proud." And Pamela added: "Beth's gran will be so proud looking down on her."

Reason Rose of Tralee didn't get tiara and the lavish prize she'll get instead

The Rose of Tralee crowned its 65th winner last night, with the title going to 20-year-old Laois Rose Katelyn Cummins. Katelyn, who grew up on a dairy farm and is now completing an electrical apprenticeship, was announced as this year's Rose just before 11.30pm, live on RTE. She was presented with her sash by last year's winner in front of an emotional audience in Tralee. The Laois woman rose to the top of a strong field of 32 Roses, with co-hosts Kathryn Thomas and Dáithí Ó Sé revealing her as the 2025 champion. While Katelyn takes home the prestigious title and a prize package worth tens of thousands, one thing is still missing - the iconic tiara. For decades, the winner of the Rose of Tralee was presented with a bespoke headpiece designed by Waterford Crystal and Tipperary Crystal. But in 2022, organisers scrapped the tradition following public feedback. At the time, Westmeath Rose and 2022 winner Rachel Duffy explained the move. She told Radio Kerry: "For all the young girls out there, it's about developing self-confidence and being okay with being yourself. You don't need a tiara to be a winner." Since then, RTE confirmed that "there is no tiara" for the winning Rose, a decision that continues to divide opinion. Instead of a tiara, Katelyn will enjoy a lavish prize package that includes: World travel voucher worth €25,000, Kia Niro plug-in hybrid car worth worth over €40,000 for her year as Rose Complimentary stays at the 4-star Meadowlands Hotel every time she returns to Tralee Free hair styling throughout the year from Brush 'N' Blush Hair and Beauty Week-long adventure in Kerry, for her and a guest, hosted by Kerry County Council Despite the impressive rewards, many viewers admitted they still miss the traditional crowning moment. Social media lit up last night with calls to bring back the tiara. Laois Rose Katelyn Cummins (Image: RTE News) One person asked online: "Is there no tiara for the new Rose of Tralee?" to which someone replied: "They got rid of the Tiara in 2022. The organisers said it was because of public feedback that it was outdated because young girls watching at home would be self conscious about it. They said that its ok to be yourself and that you don't need a tiara to be a winner." Another asked the official Rose of Tralee twitter account: "Can ye sort out the tiara situation before next year please??" A third wrote: "I have this issue every year. I hate that there is no crown or tiara for the winner. It's such a let down. It was always so special. Surely something they could reintroduce." Someone else stated: "Hate the way it end, no tiara or going down to meet her family." Another joked: "May need to start a gofundme for a new tiara." Other comments included: "So not the same without the tiara", "Bring back the hasn't been the same since they did away with it" and "Petition to bring back the tiara!" The debate is nothing new. In 2023, when New York Rose Roisin Wiley went without the headpiece, a fan poll on X (formerly Twitter) showed 87.5% of voters wanted the tiara reinstated. The best social media reaction as Laois electrician 'gets a shock' at Rose of Tralee

There were some outstanding efforts on social media last night as Laois Rose Katelyn Cummins Rose was crowned the 65th International Rose of Tralee. Katelyn's family were overcome with joy at seeing their daughter, an apprentice electrician, crowned. Last year's rose, Keeley O'Grady from New Zealand, presented Katelyn with the winning sash and a beautiful bouquet of flowers. This year's judging panel was led by 2010 International Rose of Tralee, Dr Clare Kambamettu and included Aisling Murphy from Murphy's New Homes, fashion designer Don O'Neill and RTÉ Weather and National Lottery presenter Nuala Carey. Ms Kambamettu is engaged to former RTE presenter, Ryan Tubridy. Laois Rose Katelyn Cummins Rose was crowned the 65th International Rose of Tralee. The Laois Rose hopes to inspire other young women to consider apprenticeships, particularly in traditionally male-dominated fields. The winning rose was presented with incredible prizes, but none of them included a tiara. In previous years, Waterford Crystal and Tipperary Crystal designed a bespoke tiara for the newly crowned Rose. However, this tradition was scrapped by festival bosses in 2022 based on feedback from the public. The 2002 winner Westmeath Rose, Rachel Duffy, previously explained that the change was about sending a message to young girls watching the show. Huge congratulations to the Laois Rose. Inspiring to see a young woman leading the way — doing an electrical apprenticeship and chairing her local Macra. A brilliant role model for skills, leadership & community. #roseoftralee #visittralee — Colette O'Connor (@ColetteConnor) August 19, 2025 Katelyn will now represent Ireland internationally over the coming year. Presenter Kathryn Thomas and Daithi O' Shea impressed the audience with their interviewing skills over the two nights. Kathryn rivalled the roses with her colourful wardrobe changes, while Daithi had no problem getting down on his hunkers to do a spot of doggie yoga with two gorgeous labradors. 2FM Breakfast show presenter Carl Mullen, who was jettisoned in as master of ceremonies, proved to be a lively and entertaining voice during the interludes. Dáithí Ó Sé and Kathryn Thomas. Pic: Domnick Walsh Users took to Twitter (X) to have their say on Katelyn's win, and the ceremony as a whole — with one person writing of Katelyn 'She was an electrician and she jived on stage. no beating that.' 'The electrician got a shock,' another joked, while others congratulated Katelyn on the huge win — one calling her 'Without a doubt, the perfect choice! What an inspiring, young lady! Here's to an increase in female electricians.' 'Huge Congratulations to the Laois Rose,' another wrote. 'Well done to all the Roses & the escorts. Tonight is always a mighty night in Tralee.'
