JAKARTA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will make an official visit to Indonesia this Friday, reinforcing the strong bilateral ties between Malaysia and Indonesia. The visit follows Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's earlier trips to Malaysia for key ASEAN summits and bilateral discussions.
The Malaysian Foreign Ministry stated that the visit aims to review progress on mutual agreements and prepare for the 13th Annual Consultation between the two nations later this year. Anwar is expected to hold a restricted meeting with Prabowo to address key bilateral matters, ASEAN-GCC cooperation, and regional developments.
Accompanying Anwar are Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Indonesia grew by 4.5 per cent in 2024, reaching RM116.29 billion (US$25.5 billion). Indonesia remains Malaysia's sixth-largest global trading partner and second-largest within ASEAN.
'As close neighbours and founding ASEAN members, this visit highlights our shared commitment to advancing cooperation for mutual prosperity,' the ministry said.

Govt expands NSRC to cover all cybercrimes, sets up 24/7 response network

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed to expand the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) to address all forms of cybercrime, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today. Speaking after chairing a Special Meeting of the National Cyber Security Committee (JKSN), Anwar revealed plans to establish a nationwide 24-hour response network. This initiative will involve multiple agencies working together to improve cybercrime response times and coordination. 'The strengthening of the NSRC will involve integrating local expertise, improving inter-agency coordination, and increasing human resources,' he said in a Facebook post. The Prime Minister highlighted alarming statistics, noting that nearly 4.7 billion online scam attempts have been recorded since 2022. He stressed the need for urgent action to protect Malaysians from cyber threats. Under the new structure, the Home Ministry and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will fast-track the NSRC's implementation. A 'no wrong door' approach will also be introduced, allowing victims to seek help from any agency without bureaucratic delays. Anwar urged agencies to act proactively and strengthen national cyber defence readiness, both locally and through international partnerships.

PM Anwar stresses positive reforms for Malaysia's future stability

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today underscored the importance of positive reforms in safeguarding Malaysia's social stability, economic resilience, and governance. Speaking at the ASEAN Symposium 2025, he urged leaders and institutions to embrace meaningful change to counter ethical decline and uphold justice. Anwar highlighted the erosion of idealism over generations, stressing that power must be exercised responsibly. 'Those in power, we want to emerge well. Those elites, for whatever reasons, either support one side or are obsessed with a particular value or interest, disregarding the totality and the complexity of the economy,' he said. The symposium, themed 'Anchoring ASEAN's Future in Shared Wisdom,' brought together policymakers, academics, and youth representatives to discuss inclusive and sustainable development. Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar and IKIM deputy chairman Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohd Yusof Othman were also present. Anwar emphasised that reforms must start with moral clarity and political will, particularly in combating corruption and strengthening institutions. He noted Malaysia's diversity, with Islam as the official religion and Muslims forming 60% of the population, but stressed that mutual respect among all communities is vital. While economic growth and investment attraction remain priorities, Anwar clarified that they are not the sole focus. 'Economic empowerment is for a cause. That is why we talk about cultural empowerment,' he added.
