Wave of anger in Security Council after US "veto"

New York - (Saba): The United States' use of its veto yesterday, Wednesday, against a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and allowing unrestricted humanitarian access to the besieged Strip has angered the rest of the UN Security Council members. Pakistani Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed strongly criticized the US veto, considering it a "green light for genocide" in Gaza and a "moral stain on the conscience" of the UN Security Council. His Algerian counterpart, Ammar Ben Jamaa, said, "Silence does not defend the dead, nor does it hold the hands of the dying, nor does it confront the repercussions of injustice." Slovenian Ambassador Samuel Zbogar said, "At a time when humanity is being tested live in Gaza, this draft resolution was born out of our shared sense of responsibility. Responsibility towards the civilians in Gaza, towards the Israeli hostages held in the Palestinian Strip, and responsibility before history." He added, "Enough, enough." For their part, the French and British ambassadors expressed regret over the outcome of the vote, while Chinese Ambassador Fu Cong directly blamed the United States, calling on it to abandon political calculations and adopt a fair and responsible stance. Siege, Continued Displacement on 130th Day of Tulkarm aggression

Occupied Quds - (Saba): Israeli enemy forces continue their aggression on the city of Tulkarm and its camp for the 130th consecutive day, and for the 117th day on the Nur Shams camp, amid a tight siege and ongoing attacks against residents. The Tulkarm Media Committee said in a statement that the Israeli enemy continues to impose a tight siege on the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps. Its forces are deployed in the alleys and neighborhoods, preventing residents from reaching their homes to check on them or retrieve their belongings, and firing directly at anyone who tries to approach. The committee explained that the displaced families have called on the relevant authorities, specialists, and those responsible for the displacement file in the Tulkarm Governorate to assist them in coping with the ongoing displacement suffering that has lasted for more than four months. She noted that the demolitions in recent days have affected 20 residential buildings in Nur Shams camp, as part of an Israeli plan to demolish 106 buildings in both camps (58 in Tulkarm camp and 48 in Nur Shams), with the aim of clearing roads and changing the geographical features of the camps. The ongoing aggression has resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians, including a child and two women, one of whom was eight months pregnant. It has also resulted in dozens of injuries and arrests, as well as widespread destruction of infrastructure, homes, shops, and vehicles. The escalation has led to the displacement of more than 4,200 families from the two camps, representing more than 25,000 citizens. At least 400 homes have been completely destroyed, and 2,573 homes have been partially damaged. Meanwhile, the entrances to the camps remain closed with barricades, transforming them into almost lifeless areas. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print
