Maharashtra CM stressed that language should be a bridge, never a weapon
Amid a language war in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that language cannot be a means of discord and a Marathi person can never be narrow-minded on such issues.
Speaking at the inauguration of two special centres at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Fadnavis said his government's policy has been Marathi along with other Indian languages, even as parts of Mumbai were rocked by violent protests against the 'imposition of Hindi" in Maharashtra.
'Language is a means of communication, but never of discord. Mother tongue is important. Every Marathi person is proud of the Marathi language. Insistence on Marathi is natural and justified, but we should also respect other Indian languages," he said.
Fadnavis was speaking at a function to inaugurate the Kusumagraj Special Centre for Marathi Language, Literature and Culture and the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Special Centre for Security and Strategic Studies at the JNU.
'The debate is not Marathi versus Hindi. There is no alternative to Marathi. A Marathi person has to accept Marathi. But our policy is Marathi along with other Indian languages. We should learn Marathi and also know other languages," he said.
'I say time and again, a Marathi person can never be narrow-minded. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj never taught us to be narrow-minded. Sant Dyaneshwar prayed for the welfare of the entire world and not just his followers," the chief minister added.
He confirmed that a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji would be installed at the JNU campus, with the university's Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit supporting the proposal.
The Maharashtra government's decision to introduce a three-language formula in primary schools led to protests by Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) over the 'imposition of Hindi".
The state government rolled back its decision, but the issue united the estranged Thackeray cousins, who claimed to have joined hands for the cause of Marathi.

Donald Trump's top advisor makes BIG statement against India, accuses it of funding the Ukraine War, warns 100 percent Tariff along…, PM Modi now plans to…

US President Donald Trump Washington: After over nearly two decades of steady progress, India-US relations may, quite abruptly, be at an inflection point with President Donald Trump and his team making hostile remarks against India. After Trump's slew of statements on social media targeting India, one of his top advisors at the White House, Stephen Miller, has launched a scathing attack on India. Miller has accused India of funding the war in Ukraine. The remarks made by Miller on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures, suggest a hardening stance from Washington towards New Delhi, despite India being a key Indo-Pacific partner of the US. Miller said, 'It is unacceptable for India to continue funding this war by buying oil from Russia.' He further stated that the figures are 'shocking.' He further claimed that in terms of purchasing Russian oil, India is now almost on par with China — a comparison that could surprise both Washington and New Delhi. He said, 'People would be shocked to learn that India is essentially on par with China when it comes to buying Russian oil. That is a startling fact.' It is important to note that the statement made by Miller comes just days after the US imposed a 25 percent tariff on Indian goods. Along with this tariff, Trump also mentioned the possibility of imposing penalties on India for purchasing Russian oil and weapons. However, it is currently unclear how large those penalties might be. Does the US want to punish India? Experts are of the opinion that imposing penalties on India for purchasing Russian oil would be a direct violation of India's sovereignty. They argue that the United States has no authority to dictate how India should manage its international relationships. Although the US continues to increase pressure, a report by news agency Reuters states that the Indian government has made it clear that it will not alter its energy strategy. India maintains that buying oil from Russia is linked to its strategic autonomy and economic needs. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Washington has not yet issued an official response to Miller's remarks.

Pahalgam Attack Victim's Father Writes To PM Modi, Demands Compensation, Martyr Status

Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh): Sanjay Dwivedi, father of Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi, has written two letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded compensation for the families of the April 22 deadly attack victims and a grant of "martyr status". He also described AAP MP Sanjay Singh as "one of the few leaders who stand with truth", and highlighted the issues of the families of the Pahalgam terror victims in Parliament. Mr Dwivedi, while speaking to the ANI, said, "He is one of the few leaders who stands with the truth. He presented our issues in the Parliament with all his might... I hope he will stand by our demands in the future too... I have written two letters to the Prime Minister (demanding compensation for the families of the victims and for the victims to be given the 'martyr' status). This is not a matter of party politics. This is a national issue." Sanjay Singh on Sunday met the family of the Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi during his visit to Kanpur. After the meeting, he spoke to reporters and called on the Union government to grant martyr status to victims. The AAP Rajya Sabha MP stated that he had also raised the demand during the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament. Mr Singh said, "I had raised this point in the Parliament that the victims' families demand that all those who died in Pahalgam should be given the status of martyrs. Shubham's father also demands that the tragic incident that happened cannot be compensated in a lifetime, but the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) and the government should definitely take the steps they can. This will also be a message against terrorism." The AAP leader also criticised the government over what he termed a "delay" in providing compensation for the families of the victims."The government must provide compensation and jobs to the families of the Pahalgam terror attack victims. There has been a lot of delay in that," Singh said. Shubham Dwivedi was among the 26 people killed when terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists and locals in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam. Indian armed forces carried out Operation Sindoor on May 7 to avenge the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26 people.
