Jane Moore criticises 'snooty' reactions to ITV's decision to cut Loose Women airtime
Loose Women panellist Jane Moore has hit out at the 'snooty reaction' to the news that the ITV daytime programme is one of the shows to be hit by cuts from the channel.
Jane Moore has criticised the "snooty reaction" from some critics following the news that Loose Women will be reduced to 30 weeks per year. The journalist, who believes ITV is planning to reallocate funds saved by this decision towards more sports programming, saying she's "immensely disappointed" at what she termed "lazy misogyny".
She wrote: "One male commentator for a broadsheet casually dismissed Loose Women - on air for 25 years - as a 'gabfest'... The snooty reaction from some quarters was immensely disappointing."
While Jane, 63, refrains from identifying either the broadsheet or the commentator in her column, she proceeds to highlight instances where Loose Women has robustly challenged prominent political figures.
In her article for The Sun, she pointed out: "Clearly he hadn't seen the episode when Janet Street Porter turned to then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and demanded: 'Why do you hate pensioners?'... Or when a squirming Nigel Farage was put on the spot and declared afterwards 'that was one of the scariest things I've ever done.'".
Loose Women, an ITV fixture since 2000, also received accolades earlier this year with a Royal Television Society award for its 'Facing It Together' campaign, which raises awareness about domestic violence, reports the Mirror.
Both 'Loose Women' and ' Lorraine ' are set to become victims of a significant ITV overhaul, with plans to reduce their annual airtime to just 30 weeks from 2026.
It's believed that this strategy will be a cost-saving measure for the network, but Jane, who appeared on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! last year, has been informed that the savings will likely be redirected into sports programming.
The seasoned presenter expressed her disappointment: "When it was announced that one of the precious few, all-female shows was being cut back to 30 weeks a year to save money for, among other things, more sport, the snooty reaction from some quarters was immensely disappointing.
"We always cover the day's main news stories, as well as important topics such as, among many other things, miscarriage, post-natal depression, menopause, midlife female invisibility (oh the irony) and breast cancer awareness."
Jane has been a staple on Loose Women since 2013, following an earlier three-year period which concluded in 2002.
She is part of a diverse panel that includes members ranging from 25 to the legendary 85-year-old TV icon Gloria Hunniford.
Speculation suggests that there may be a reduction in the number of panellists next year, along with a decrease in broadcasting hours.
Lorraine Kelly is also reportedly discontented with the upcoming changes. She has been the face of her self-titled morning show on ITV since 2010.
However, an ITV insider disclosed this week: "She has been an icon of ITV but serious cuts need to be made and her show has been cut to just 30 minutes, which after ad breaks will be a very short chunk of time."
Another source disclosed to the Mirror: "Lorraine was not happy about what is happening and also had concern for the production team which will be cut back too."

JoJo Siwa breaks silence on Chris Hughes romance, split with Kath Ebbs and her sexuality saying she's ‘head over heels'
JOJO Siwa has broken her silence on being "head over heels" for Chris Hughes - as she admitted their previously platonic connection has now "developed." The Dance Moms star, 22, was candid in addressing her feelings for the Love Island alum after they were spotted cosying up on a night out with pals. 6 6 6 It came shortly after the duo shared an intimate video together before snuggling up in bed - in a snap which has since been deleted. The actress and singer - who formed a blossoming connection with ITV Racing pundit Chris, 32, in Celebrity Big Brother this year - has now opened up on the "genuine" nature of their bond. She said: "People can see our chemistry, and they got to see it develop "I think everyone's just curious, and I can't blame them." Clarifying the pair's exact relationship status she told The Guardian: "It's not platonic any more, and it's been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I'm absolutely head over heels for him and he's the same way." She added: "I won't ever speak for him, but for me personally, the happiness in my life just radiates off of me right now. "Literally yesterday, I was massaging my cheeks; I've never been in pain from smiling so much." SHOCK SPLIT The Boomerang songstress was dating partner Kath Ebbs when she stepped foot in the ITV spy house. Yet Kath, 27, revealed they had been dumped by the US TV alum during the wrap party for the reality series. Watch as JoJo Siwa makes Chris Hughes blush with cute tribute as he proudly watches her perform in London Taking to Instagram at the time, Australian content creator Kath, said they were in "complete shock" and felt "numbed out and humiliated" after being dumped by JoJo. Yet she has now told how she is "preserving her piece" - and not hitting back at her former partner's social media post. After revealing she was no longer a lesbian in the CBB compound during the show's live stream she said she now wants to identify as queer. During a private chat in the bedroom, she confessed: "I feel so queer,", as co-star Danny then responded: "I'm queer!" JoJo Siwa and Kath Ebbs' relationship We look back at JoJo Siwa's romance with Kath Ebbs: JoJo Siwa went public with hers and Kath Ebbs' relationship in January 2025. The Dance Moms star had been introduced to 27-year-old Australian content creator Kath by a mutual friend called G-Flip six months earlier. JoJo had split with her girlfriend Dakayla Wilson in November 2024 and it is believed she hooked up romantically with Kath soon after. Speaking in March at the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, JoJo said of her relationship: 'I am so happy. I am in a very mature relationship, and it's beautiful. It's taught me so much about life. 'It's taught me so much about love and respect, and it's a beautiful thing. 'It's different in more ways than I can count. I wouldn't even know what to say the biggest is 'cause just everything is so different and special.' Kath even claimed they had talked about marriage together. However, JoJo's romance with Kath abruptly hit the skids on April 25, 2025, at the Celebrity Big Brother wrap party. JoJo dumped Kath at the bash after spending 19 days in the CBB house - where she had grown close to Love Island star Chris Hughes. In her new interview, she told how the phrase "encompasses how I am, and who I am." She added: "I do live this very, very big public life that has so many eyeballs on it, and it can get really hard to navigate. "But I'm also living a human life. You can't help who you love." The term queer is defined by LGBTQ charity Stonewall as "a term used by those wanting to reject specific labels of sexual orientation and/or gender identity". JoJo's sexuality was already a subject of conversation on CBB when American actor Mickey Rourke made a homophobic slur when talking to her earlier on in the series. 6 6 6

Coronation Street star Barbara Ferris dies aged 85
Barbara Ferris, a former Coronation Street star, has died at the age of 85. The star's death was confirmed by her family. Barbara is the sister of Call the Midwife star Pamela Ferris, and died on May 23 of this year. Barbara portrayed the role of Nona Willis in the ITV soap in 1961. She left after appearing in 9 episodes. The actress married film producer John Quested in 1960. Together they have three children called Nicholas, Christopher and Catherine. Her final film credit was that of 1990's The Krays. Barbara, also a former model, retired to prioritise family life, and travel. It was revealed last month that, for the first time ever, Coronation Street and Emmerdale will air a crossover episode. ITV's flagship soaps have announced the one-off special edition to mark a new broadcast pattern that will launch in 2026. It was announced earlier this year that both serial dramas will air in what has been dubbed as a 'power hour' from 8pm, Monday to Friday. Ultimately it means that both shows will lose a half an hour episode per week.
