RM195.35m approved for Sabah infrastructure projects under KPKT

The Sun11-07-2025
INANAM: The federal government has approved RM195.35 million for the implementation of 48 infrastructure development and repair projects across Sabah under the Housing and Local Government Ministry's (KPKT) Development Programme through the Fifth Rolling Plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said that all approved projects would be carried out this year and overseen by 11 agencies under the ministry.
He said the allocation includes RM60.39 million for development projects, such as the construction of a car park in Foh Sang (Kota Kinabalu), a multi-purpose hall in Ranau, a marketplace in Putatan, and slope repair works.
'A total of RM39.78 million has been allocated under the ministry's Housing Planning Division for 10 Residensi Rakyat and People's Housing Programme projects in Kionsom, Pitas, Lahad Datu, Kota Belud, Beaufort, Kibabaig, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Kuala Penyu and Tuaran.
'Meanwhile, RM24.48 million has been set aside for the Rumah Mesra Rakyat projects, under the supervision of Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad,' he told reporters after officiating the Putera Kiansom Residensi Rakyat project and handing over keys to residents here today.
Nga said RM13.74 million has been allocated to the National Landscape Department for upgrading and developing public parks throughout Sabah, developing the Kota Kinabalu Botanical Garden and conducting a master plan study for the Keningau District Council.
In addition, RM7.77 million has been approved for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department for the construction and upgrading of fire stations in Putatan, Lahad Datu, Beaufort, Merotai, Kota Belud and Semporna.
Commenting on the Putera Kiansom Residensi Rakyat project, Nga said under the MADANI government's leadership, KPKT has successfully completed the long-delayed project, which began nearly 22 years ago.
'The project received its Certificate of Occupancy (OC) on May 5 this year for Blocks A, B, C and D. It was first initiated in 2003 under the Third Rolling Plan 3 of the 8th Malaysia Plan but was delayed due to issues with incompetent contractors,' he said.
He also expressed confidence that the remaining six blocks would be completed by the end of August and fully occupied before year-end.
The Putera Kiansom Residensi Rakyat project features five-storey apartment blocks constructed on a six-hectare site, comprising 1,000 housing units measuring 750 square feet each, with a total development cost of RM152.9 million. - Bernama

Sejahtera MADANI raises RM120 million to end poverty in Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysia MADANI People's Wellbeing Initiative (Sejahtera MADANI), launched today to end poverty, has successfully raised nearly RM120 million, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced. Speaking at the launch, Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the initiative had received overwhelming support from the private sector, surpassing its initial fundraising target of RM50 million. 'I said if Sejahtera MADANI could raise RM50 million, that would already be a success, and the government could top it up a bit, but today the response has not just doubled, it's gone far beyond that. 'The initiative has now raised nearly RM120 million. This is a meaningful project, and we want to drive this nation to become strong and great,' he said. Present at the event were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. Anwar also reiterated his MADANI Government's commitment to ending hardcore poverty in Malaysia through coordinated efforts and strategic approaches. 'My target, together with the Cabinet, is to end hardcore poverty. Based on data from 2023 to 2024, we've made significant progress. Even though new cases may emerge, the overall numbers are far lower than before,' he said. The Prime Minister also praised the commitment of all stakeholders, particularly the private sector and Islamic religious councils, for working alongside the government to tackle one of the country's most persistent issues. Sejahtera MADANI is a national initiative aimed at assisting poor and hardcore poor households registered under the National Poverty Database or the eKasih system. Coordinated by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM), the initiative consolidates various aid interventions across ministries, agencies, and private entities for a focused and integrated poverty eradication strategy. In a statement issued at the launch, ICU JPM described Sejahtera MADANI as being anchored on a 'whole-of-nation approach,' enhanced with high-impact and sustainable programs targeting both heads of households and household members under the eKasih system. The initiative focuses on four key areas, namely income generation, education, housing, and social welfare. The government is targeting RM100 million in corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions for Sejahtera MADANI, all of which will be channelled to the People's Wellbeing Fund managed by ICU JPM. 'All CSR contributions under this initiative qualify for income tax deductions under Subsection 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967,' the statement read. As of July 15, a total of 306,403 heads of households are registered in the eKasih database nationwide, comprising 1,017 classified as hardcore poor and 305,386 as poor. - Bernama

Nga: Anwar's fuel price cut proves promises kept

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement of initiatives to ease the people's cost of living proves that the Madani government is fulfilling its promises, said Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Minister Nga Kor Ming. He said the reduction of the RON95 fuel price to RM1.99 per litre makes it one of the lowest in the world. "This demonstrates his concern in addressing cost-of-living issues despite financial constraints. On behalf of 22,000 KPKT families, I would like to thank the Prime Minister for the good news. Anwar said if he became Prime Minister, fuel prices would go down, and now, they will really go down. "Even with the current financial limitations, we've managed to reduce the fuel price, maintain toll rates, provide SARA (Sumbangan Asas Rahmah), and give various incentives," he said at a press conference after officiating the Asean Real Estate Conference (AREC) 2025 and the International Architecture, Interior Design and Building Exhibition (ARCHIDEX) 2025, here yesterday. Nga said the one-off RM100 aid under SARA for all Malaysians aged 18 and above also reflects the government's commitment to helping not only the B40 group but also the M40 group, which is often excluded from such aid. He said the RM2 billion allocation, benefiting 22 million Malaysians, is expected to have a multiplier effect on the economy, while the postponement of toll rate hikes serves as an anti-inflationary measure. Nga emphasised that the Madani government will continue its nation-building efforts and urged all Malaysians to unite in helping the country rise again and gain global respect. "Sometimes in the government, we are required to make some unpopular, extremely difficult decisions as leaders who care about the next generation. "I expect more good news in 2026 Budget, which is scheduled to be tabled in October, so stay tuned," he said. Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced several key initiatives as a gesture of appreciation from the Madani government to the people, including a one-off RM100 aid under the SARA programme, a freeze on toll hikes for 10 highways, and a targeted subsidy bringing the RON95 fuel price down to RM1.99 per litre. Meanwhile, Nga said the Madani government will continue with housing reforms through initiatives such as PR1MA, affordable housing, and low-cost homes. "You have to give us at least three terms to realise our vision. We're only halfway through the first term. If you give us a second and third term — 15 years — we will be able to deliver on our promises." - BERNAMA
