A new era of innovation
The brief? Bring to life the 600-year-old story of Diriyah's role in the Hajj pilgrimage – without any archival imagery, relying solely on oral records. What Diriyah had was a vision.
For centuries, Diriyah served as a vital stop for pilgrims journeying to Makkah. But its story – and that of the Imams who safeguarded these routes – had faded from public memory.
With a bold challenge from the passionate team at Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA), Create. partnered with Manga Productions to build what history never documented: two fully visualised films capturing the legacy of these spiritual guardians and the city that protected them.
Commenting on how this campaign was brought to life, Dana Al-Azem, Business Director, Create., said, 'AI was the tool, but culture was the canvas. Our goal wasn't just awareness—it was connection.'
Using AI tools such as Midjourney and detailed research, the team recreated historically accurate visuals – down to clothing, portraits and environments – based on sketches from Manga Productions and approved by the Saudi Royal Court.
These weren't merely imaginative illustrations, but deeply researched visual narratives rooted in oral history and brought into the digital age.
Tamara Qaisieh, Senior Account Director, Create., added, 'Diriyah has countless stories to tell, and we used innovative tools like Midjourney to bring this one to life – turning a lack of archival material into an opportunity for creative, youth-driven storytelling.'
The resulting campaign, Diriyah: The Road to Hajj, struck a powerful cultural chord –setting a new regional benchmark for AI-powered storytelling.
The campaign also won Gold at both the NYX and VEGA Awards in the Social Campaign category – cementing Create.'s position at the forefront of culturally driven innovation in the region.
This campaign – along with a series of other key initiatives such as the Diriyah Global Seminar, Saudi Founding Day and Eid celebrations at Diriyah, created in partnership with DGDA – helped reintroduce Diriyah's rich heritage to the world.
Together, these projects supported Saudi Vision 2030's goal of spotlighting the Kingdom's past while embracing the future through innovation and digital storytelling.
Campaign results at a glance:
31.7 million impressions
31.9 million video views
767,000 social engagements
10,000 new followers on Diriyah's platforms
78 per cent increase in positive sentiment
Diriyah: The Road to Hajj was only the beginning.
Since the success of the Diriyah campaign, Create.'s presence in the Kingdom has grown significantly. Their expanding client roster includes Public Investment Fund, NEOM, The Royal Commission for AlUla, and Kimpton Hotels, and more.
Their ongoing partnership with Diriyah Gate Development Authority continues to thrive –with Create. most recently providing live, multi-location coverage of Founding Day celebrations, sparking national pride, unity, and cultural connection.
Driving this momentum is Mahmoud Shaban, newly appointed Business Lead for KSA, leading a team that fuses bold creativity with cultural authenticity – crafting stories that bridge past and future, and resonate from our region, to far beyond our borders.
'This is just the beginning of how we'll use AI to preserve and elevate the region's stories,' Shaban said.
Buidling on the success of the Diriyah campaign, Create. has gone on to pioneer other AI-powered experiences such as a groundbreaking course portal for Dubai Economy and Tourism.
Developed to support entrepreneurs across every stage of their journey, the platform features over 70 lessons across seven subjects, in both English and Arabic – delivering 140 video modules and integrated online tutoring.
Romain Colomer, Experience & Innovation Director, Create., concluded, 'At Create, we are pioneering AI-powered education for the region – redefining how knowledge is created and delivered at scale. This is the future of learning: adaptive, scalable, and deeply impactful.'

Saudi film ‘Hijra' to compete at Venice Film Festival 2025
Shot over more than 55 days in eight Saudi cities, the story unfolds against the backdrop of Hajj. Saudi filmmaker Shahad Ameen's second feature film, Hijra, has been officially selected for the Spotlight Competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, set to run from August 27 to September 6, 2025. The selection marks a major return to Venice for Ameen, whose debut Scales also premiered at the festival, represented Saudi Arabia at the Oscars, and collected more than 15 international awards. Ameen takes on both writing and directing roles for Hijra, collaborating with celebrated Iraqi filmmaker Mohamed Al-Daradji as lead producer. Set in 2001, the film is described as a poetic road movie centred around a grandmother's journey from southern Saudi Arabia to Mecca with her two granddaughters. When one of the girls goes missing, the quest takes a dramatic turn northward, unfolding an emotional and physical journey across the Kingdom's varied terrain. Shot across nine different locations including AlUla, Tabuk, Neom and Jeddah, the film is a layered reflection on identity, womanhood, and belonging. Ameen described Hijra as one of the most demanding projects of her career, highlighting its strong focus on Saudi women told through a deeply human and historical lens. Leading the cast is newcomer Lamar Fadan in the role of Janna, alongside Khairia Nathmy, Nawaf Al-Dhafiri and a guest appearance by Baraa Alem. The film is a co-production between Beit Ameen for Production, the Iraqi Independent Film Centre, and Ideation Studios, with institutional backing from Film AlUla, Neom, Ithra and the Red Sea Film Festival Foundation. International sales are managed by CAA, while CineWaves is distributing in Saudi Arabia and Film Clinic Indie Distribution is handling regional rights across the Arab world. Supporting Hijra's vision is a top-tier international crew including editor Hervé de Luze (The Pianist), cinematographer Miguel Littin Menz (The Vast of Night) and composer Armand Amar (Bab'Aziz), along with Saudi talents Meznah Alharbi and Toufic Khreich. Rooted in the landscapes and cultural depths of Saudi Arabia, Hijra is a powerful statement of the Kingdom's growing voice in global cinema.

'Success is a form of resistance': Rami Al Ali makes triumphant haute couture debut in Paris
'Success is a form of resistance,' noted Rami Al Ali in a statement ahead of his show, where he became the first Syrian designer to join the prestigious ranks of haute couture. For his debut on July 10 in Paris – having shown off-schedule for a decade – Al Ali presented Guardians of Light, conceived as an homage to the precious handicrafts of his Syrian homeland, which had been endangered and almost forgotten during the country's long civil war. Drawing on the beauty of courtyards in private Ottoman-era homes, the painted panels of Al Azem Palace, the dramatic splendour of Jami Al Darwishiyya and Khan As'ad Pasha, and the hypnotic rhythm of geometric mosque tiles, Al Ali distilled it all into a parade of looks united in an airy lightness. In a discreet palette of cream, bisque, oat, crepe pink, powder blue, ash, dove grey, muted gold, black and white, Al Ali offered a plisse blue dress etched with mashrabiya patterns. The motif appeared again on a bone dress with a skirt that stood out like a bell; scattered in bronze around a long gold sheath; and as a gown in bone with the design built in three dimensions across the surface. Elsewhere, a crisp patterning of blue lines traced from a halterneck fell to the floor, in geometric contrast to the flowing, plisse skirt, while two looks seemed to be woven from an intricate matrix of golden threads, echoing traditional Aghabani embroidery. This plaiting was also used to create a corset that floated over a gossamer chiffon gown. Between these, Al Ali delivered the sculptural forms he's known for: a stiff ruff rippling from shoulder to floor, beaded inside and out; cream folds that wrapped the body and spilled into kick-flare skirts like reams of paper; and high arcs framing the face and arms. Softer iterations appeared as long origami folds in eau de nil that swept the floor, and light latte pleats that swayed with each step. In a statement to the Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode ahead of the show, Al Ali explained why reworking Syrian heritage was important for him. 'Every step forward, especially when you're coming from a place that's underrepresented or misunderstood, is an act of quiet defiance,' he said. With fitted silhouettes that offered sleek lines and restrained refinement, Al Ali proved why he deserves to be among the ranks of haute couture. It is the highest stage a dressmaker can aspire to, and a title bestowed on only a select few. Having established his brand in Dubai in 2001, and showing his creations alongside the official haute couture week in Paris for 10 years, Al Ali has been quietly honing his skill to arrive at this point. Devotees of his work will recognise his touches in this collection, from his whisper-light touch of placing a fold here, and deftly turning down a shoulder strap there. To the rest of the world, this show will announce the arrival of a talent worthy of their attention. With the restraint and elegance he has made his own, Al Ali offered propositions that are refined, poised and achingly beautiful. Al Ali has staked his claim on the international stage, with a collection filled with remarkable savoir-faire. A decade in the making, it has been well worth the wait.
