Teluk Intan Municipal Council reverses decision on vandal after talks with MIC
MIC vice president Datuk T. Murugiah stated that the municipal council had initially declined to lease a shop lot to a man named Thevar because of a previous incident in which he reportedly damaged the entrance of the council office.
"I held a meeting with the council's president, Zairul Akmal Kasim, during which I explained the situation and appealed for reconsideration. After a positive and constructive discussion, he agreed to allow the shop lot to be rented again to Thevar," said Murugiah in a statement on Monday (May 26).
"Furthermore, I respectfully asked the president to consider withdrawing the police report filed against Thevar," he added, noting that the council agreed to consult with the Investigating Officer on the potential withdrawal of the report.

On May 8, Thevar allegedly used a sledgehammer to damage the council office's entrance because the council erected a tent in front of his watch repair shop during the Chitra Pournami celebration.
On the same day, Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said that the 63-year-old suspect was taken into custody after a complaint was lodged at 10:35am.
"Investigations found that the suspect arrived at the scene on a motorcycle, parked in front of the council's building, and then took a sledgehammer to break the glass doors.
"After the incident, the suspect attempted to leave the scene and head to his shop in Jalan Bandar, Teluk Intan, but was apprehended and handed over to the police," he said.

Police seek witnesses to fatal student crash in Pitas
KOTA MARUDU: Police are seeking witnesses in a hit-and-run case involving a male Form Four student who was killed after his motorcycle collided with a compact car on Jalan Bongkol, Kampung Kalipoun Darat, Pitas, on Saturday (Aug 16). Kota Marudu OCPD Supt Simiun Lomudin said initial investigations found that the victim's motorcycle was struck and dragged by the vehicle during the 6.30pm incident. "The incident occurred while the victim was on his way home. The driver of the vehicle is believed to have fled the scene. "In this regard, the police are appealing for the cooperation of the public who witnessed the incident, or have any information related to the crash, to come forward and assist with the investigation," he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 18). Simiun added that members of the public with information can contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division investigating officer at the Kota Marudu district police headquarters, Inspector Julina Samual, at 088-661 066. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, for careless driving causing death. – Bernama

Two men killed after being hit by car while refuelling van by roadside
IPOH: Two men were killed after they were hit by a car while they were refuelling their van by the roadside of Kilometre 84.6 of Jalan Kuala Kangsar-Gerik-Pengkalan Hulu on Sunday (Aug 17). Gerik OCPD Supt Abdul Samad Othman said they received a report at 9.15pm about a crash involving a van and two sedans that led to the death of the two men. "The van, with a male driver, 45, and two male passengers, 18 and 30, had stopped by the side of the road in the direction from Kuala Kangsar to Gerik as it had run out of fuel. "While the driver and the 18-year-old passenger were on the right side of the van refuelling it, a sedan, driven by a 19-year-old man carrying two passengers, both 19, moving in the same direction, nearly hit another sedan that was in front of it," he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 18). Because of the near collision, the second sedan, driven by a man, 60, and carrying a woman passenger, 36, hit the two men by the side of the van, causing severe injuries to both of them. "The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver died while receiving treatment at Gerik district hospital," he said, adding that all the other people in all three vehicles were unhurt. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
