Police probe upside-down Johor flag at Segamat hotel
Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said a report was lodged on Sunday (Aug 17), with initial checks revealing the flag had been put up by two hotel employees in conjunction with the Merdeka month.
"One of them, a foreign worker, had mistakenly hoisted the flag upside down. He corrected it immediately after being alerted by his colleague," he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 18), adding the worker holds valid documents, including a passport and work permit.
The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Investigation papers will be referred to the state prosecution office, he said. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has ordered rapper Caprice to archive 31 allegedly defamatory Instagram posts targeting entrepreneur Muhammad Asyraf Khalid. The posts also insinuated that Muhammad Asyraf misused family influence as the son of Datuk Seri Khalid Mohammad Jiwa. Despite not airing the full podcast episode, Caprice continued attacking Muhammad Asyraf publicly. The lawsuit claims Caprice's actions led to public backlash and tarnished Muhammad Asyraf's reputation. Muhammad Asyraf seeks an injunction to prevent further defamatory posts and demands their removal within 24 hours. He also requests a public video apology from Caprice across all social media platforms. The plaintiff is seeking general damages, aggravated damages, and legal costs. Zara Qairina's family lawyer welcomes A-GC decision to charge bullying suspects
KOTA KINABALU: The legal team representing the family of Zara Qairina Mahathir has welcomed the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) decision to charge several suspects in connection with her alleged bullying case. The team, led by Hamid Ismail, said the decision aligns with recommendations they submitted to the A-GC on Aug 14. "Our proposal at the time was based on disclosures by the Director of Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department, which revealed evidence pointing to bullying prior to the incident involving Zara Qairina. "Therefore, prosecution must be carried out against those named in the evidence under Section 507D(2) of the Penal Code," the lawyers said in a joint statement today. The legal team also includes Shalhan Jufri, Rizwanaden M Borhan, Mohd Luqman Syazwan Zabidi, Mohd Syarulrizam Mohd Salleh, and Farrah Nasser. However, the lawyers noted that they have yet to be informed of the identities of those who will be charged in court. Earlier, the Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, when contacted, confirmed that five teenage girls would be charged in connection with Zara Qairina's death. Dusuki said the five would be charged at the Kota Kinabalu Juvenile Court on Wednesday. The A-GC said the decision was b ased on police investigation papers.

GOF Seizes 33,500 Kg Of Thai Rice Worth RM400,000
IPOH, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The Ulu Kinta General Operations Force (GOF) seized 33,500 kilogrammes (kg) of white Thai rice worth around RM400,000 being smuggled in a trailer lorry in Gerik yesterday. GOF Northern Brigade commander, SAC Shahrum Hashim said a man, 44, was also arrested during the operation between 3.15 pm to 5.45 pm. 'The operation team detained a trailer lorry carrying 670 gunny sacks of white Thai rice, each weighing 50 kg, while it was on its way to a rice warehouse in Perak,' he said in a statement here today.
