‘Murderbot' Lands Season 2 Renewal at Apple TV+
The streamer has ordered a second season of the series, which stars Alexander Skarsgård as the title character, a security robot who has to hide the fact that it has gained free will and guard its human clients on a dangerous mission — but who really wants just to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.

The renewal for Murderbot comes a day ahead of the show's first season finale, set for July 11. The CBS Studios show is based on the first book in Martha Wells' Hugo and Nebula Award-winning Murderbot Diaries novel series. Chris and Paul Weitz adapted the book and serve as showrunners.
'We're so grateful for the response that Murderbot has received and delighted that we're getting to go back to Martha Wells' world to work with Alexander, Apple, CBS Studios and the rest of the team,' the Weitz brothers said in a statement.
Added Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, 'Chris, Paul, Alexander and the entire Murderbot team have delivered a brilliantly original, addictive, witty and vibrant adaptation that has captured the imagination of audiences everywhere. We can't wait to unveil what's next for Murderbot and, of course, Sanctuary Moon in season two.'
Murderbot also stars Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones and Tamara Podemski. Chris and Paul Weitz executive produce with Andrew Miano of their Depth of Field company, along with David S. Goyer and Keith Levine for Phantom Four and Skarsgård. After a bout with COVID, Josh Gad says he'll perform Sunday in 'Jesus Christ Superstar'
It felt like 2022 all over again when Josh Gad took to Instagram to express his heartbreak about contracting a "virus known as COVID" and announce his decision to pull out of playing King Herod in the highly anticipated production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" at the Hollywood Bowl, which staged its first night of a three-night run Friday. Gad hinted that maybe — if he tested negative — the situation might change. The following day, however, John Stamos announced on social media that his weekend "just got biblical" and that he was stepping in for Gad in the show. On Friday, things got extra dramatic when Gad said that he had tested negative. Fans on his social media clamored to know what that might mean, but he stayed mum until Saturday when he posted a photo of himself in an elaborate gold lamé costume with the words, "See you all Sunday night." A rep for the Los Angeles Philharmonic said that final confirmation that Gad will step onto stage won't come until noon Sunday. Stamos appeared onstage as Herod on Friday night, bringing some comic relief to an electric, deeply emotional show. After one of star Cynthia Erivo's solos, the audience clapped so loud, long and reverently, that tears came to the singer's eyes — which only caused the crowd to cheer harder. The moment of symbiotic love lasted for at least 3 minutes, maybe more. The Bowl was packed with marquee names, including former Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Jim Carrey and Ted Neely (who played Jesus in the 1973 film adaptation of the musical). Erivo brought composer Andrew Lloyd Webber onto the stage as a special guest during curtain call. Still, Gad fans were many — you could tell because they held Olaf dolls and wore Olaf jewelry — and they could be heard expressing their sorrow at the absence of Gad in the crush of the crowd after the show. Gad's addition to the cast, which included Erivo as Jesus, Adam Lambert as Judas and Phillipa Soo as Mary Magdalene, was hailed by fans; and in an interview with The Times during rehearsal, Gad spoke about being beyond excited to perform at the Bowl for the very first time with a stellar cast that he called the Avengers of musical theater. "I've wanted to play the Hollywood Bowl forever," said Gad. "But I never thought I was good enough to play the Hollywood Bowl," he added with a self-deprecating smile Even though the role of King Herod entails a single song — a kind of comic interlude that Gad likened to the part of King George in "Hamilton" — Gad showed up at as many rehearsals as possible before he came down with COVID. He just liked sitting on the sidelines, soaking up the scene and the incredible talent on display, he said. At a Saturday rehearsal before the show, he filmed numbers on phones for various cast members and cheered his heart out. His sense of excitement was palpable. 'Golden Bachelor' star Mel Owens does damage control after controversial age preference comments
Mel Owens, the new face of "The Golden Bachelor," is doing damage control. The former NFL linebacker turned reality star found himself in hot water after he revealed he asked the people behind the reality show to present him with female contestants between the ages of 45 and 60. After his comment sparked backlash, Owens, 66, addressed the controversy surrounding his remarks about dating preferences. When asked why he made the comments, Owens replied in an interview with Glamour, "Because I didn't know anything about The Golden Bachelor ages. I didn't." He explained, "I had watched the first show when I was younger, when it first launched or something in 2002, until my son was born. But then when he was born, I didn't watch it anymore. So when these people talk about, 'Hey, this season and that season,' I didn't know the age range because I wasn't watching it." Instead, Owens said his idea of the "golden" years was based on his personal frame of reference — not the show's legacy. "I'm thinking, to me, the age range was 45 to 60. That's my age range. I'm thinking that's the gold years for me. My reference, again, was when I was dating at 39, 40. I hadn't dated in 26 years, so I had no clue. And that's why I said that comment," he admitted. "I didn't know. I didn't know. And I didn't know that [Gerry Turner, the original Golden Bachelor] got married and then divorced. I didn't know any of it." Owens, who's currently filming the upcoming season set to premiere in September, said he faced the issue head-on the moment cameras rolled. "When I first walked in, I addressed it. I apologized to them. I said, 'It was unfair, insensitive. I want to earn it back. Just give me the chance,'" he continued to explain. "And hopefully, these last two weeks I earned some of that back." However, not everyone was quick to forgive — especially during one particular group date. "One of the dates was a roast. It was brutal. They were killing me," Owens confessed. "They're brilliant. It's shocking how brilliant they are." Reps for Owens did not immediately respond back to Fox News Digital's request for comment. The drama comes after Owens faced criticism for opening up about his strict criteria when it came to choosing a life partner. While speaking on the "In the Trenches" podcast, Owens didn't hold back, sharing that he had no interest in dating women "60 and over" and made it clear to producers he didn't want anyone cast with "artificial hips" or "wigs." "It's blind up until they get out of the limo. But they asked me, 'What's your preferences?' So, I just said 45 to 60, just being honest," Owens said. "And then the process went, and I was selected, right? And then we had lunch with the executive producer. I said, 'You know, if they're 60 or over, I'm cutting them.' 'Oh Mel, you can't, you know, this is not the 'Silver Bachelor.' It's the 'Golden Bachelor.' He goes, 'but they're going to be hot, don't worry about it. Don't worry about it.'" Owens added that he expected the contestants to all be in good shape. "I had no resume, but they asked me, what is my, like, my profile?" Owens said. "Well, they got to be fit because I stay in shape, should work out and stuff. And I told them, you know, try to stay away from the artificial hips and the wigs, you know, that kind of stuff, right." In a press release for the show, producers revealed that Owens was previously married for 25 years and is a proud father of two sons. He hopes to find a love "rooted in the simple joys of companionship — sharing life's everyday moments, making plans for the future and growing stronger together as a couple."
