Samsung teases a smarter camera on Galaxy Z Fold 7, but what exactly is coming?

India Todaya day ago

Samsung has shared a new teaser that hints at a smarter camera system for its next foldable, likely the Galaxy Z Fold 7. While the press release doesn't name the phone directly, it highlights camera innovation and specifically mentions foldables as the next step in AI-powered mobile photography. This, along with the teaser video showing a book-style foldable device, makes it quite clear that Samsung is preparing something big for the Z Fold 7's camera. According to Samsung, the goal is no longer just to offer a high-quality lens or sensor, but to deliver a complete imaging experience — combining hardware, software, and AI into a seamless system. advertisementAs per Samsung, the cameras on its Galaxy smartphones are evolving from tools for capturing images into smart interfaces that help users better understand and interact with the world around them. When this is paired with the larger screen of a foldable, the result is expected to be a more dynamic, immersive experience. Could this mean a deeper Google Lens-like integration or smarter real-time scene recognition? Possibly. The teaser doesn't give everything away, but it's safe to say Samsung's focus this year is on making the camera more useful, not just better. Now, coming to the rest of the lineup, Samsung is expected to announce a full range of foldables and wearables at its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, reportedly scheduled for July 10. At the centre of it will be the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, with leaks suggesting that the Z Fold 7 will be thinner and lighter, while the Z Flip 7 could bring a larger cover screen and possibly an Exynos chip in some regions. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also expected to retain two storage options — 256GB and 512GB — both with 12GB RAM.advertisement
Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 won't be the only clamshell foldable this time. Samsung is also said to be launching its first-ever Fan Edition foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. Rumours point to it having 128GB and 256GB storage variants, likely with fewer premium features to keep the price down. Then there's the Galaxy G Fold — a triple-folding device that could be teased at the event. While not much is known about it just yet, some believe it might be shown briefly, similar to how Samsung teased the S25 Edge earlier this year.Of course, it won't just be phones. The Galaxy Watch 8 series is also expected to make its debut. The standard Watch 8 will reportedly come in grey and silver colours, while the Watch 8 Classic might arrive in black and white. Both are expected to be available in 40mm and 44mm sizes. As always, the wearables will likely focus on health and fitness features, but we might see new AI integrations here as well. Whether all devices launch immediately or some are held back for later in the year — like the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE or Galaxy G Fold — we'll know more once the event takes place.

With Phone 3, Nothing says it is ready to take on Apple and Samsung – but is it?

Phone 3, Nothing's next phone, will be big. Very few companies manage to create this kind of impression – about an impending product launch – without any concrete evidence to support it. Apple is one of them. Samsung perhaps, is another, even though we know more about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 today than we know about the Phone 3. Some might even say the Phone 3 is still vapourware even though it is launching globally in just a few Fold 7 doesn't even have a launch date yet, but we know that it will be the thinnest, lightest, and most durable foldable device that Samsung has ever made. And it will have triple cameras on the back with some form of visual intelligence AI baked in. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite is a dead given at this point. The most we know about the Phone 3 is that Nothing might replace its signature glyph LEDs with a dot matrix display capable of lighting up to show some jazzy animations, possibly when you receive a phone call, a text message and other things. We have a rough ballpark figure of the pricing too. The Phone 3 is confirmed to launch at around 800 Pounds which translates to about Rs 93,450 in INR, meaning that it will be the most expensive phone that Nothing has ever at the price tag, you might say, isn't it obvious that it will have the big specs, too, and while that may be true, we can't say it for sure until and unless the full spec-sheet is out (and even then, the phone will need to make good use of those specs, to make an impact). But despite all that exists and what might come on July 1 when Nothing officially launches the Phone 3, what's certain is that it is the company's biggest tech outing since the dawn of its existence. With nearly 5 years of experience, mostly within the confines of London and in India, Nothing is taking its learnings to the Wild West (and Canada). It has been in the US in bits and pieces before, but this time it is going all in. CEO Carl Pei has never been the one to mince words and, once again, he is putting the money where his mouth is, calling out Apple and Samsung for their alleged lack of enough differentiation – and invariably the lack of innovation – which sets the stage for a new player to come and change the game. The Phone 3, he says, is the right product, suggesting that it has the right set of specs and features to become a breakout hit in the US and other have always said we are building for the long term, and now we're ready to take that next step in the US. Phone 3 is not just another launch. It is a signal of where we are as a company. The smartphone market in the US is dominated by two players, but a lot of people are hungry for something different,' Pei told TechCrunch, adding that 'We have already seen strong conversion rates from users switching to Nothing, and with Phone 3, we are going after that opportunity in a much more focused way. This is the right product, and the right moment, to start scaling in North America.'At OnePlus, Pei's biggest achievement was to make the BBK brand global, particularly in the US where Oppo had little footing. He seized the opportunity and made the most of it. But despite the many differences, OnePlus had Oppo backing it up at every step with hardware. Most OnePlus phones at the time were rebranded Oppo phones. So, while Pei might have had a lot of challenges to deal with, smartphone ID (short for industrial design) was not one of them, or at least not as big, we reckon. With Nothing, everything started from scratch. Smartphone wasn't even its first product, but at the time of writing, it is its most critical make-or-break has built a great team, particularly on the camera and software side, and it is making carrier deals with AT&T and T-Mobile, steps often considered as the gateway to making it big in the US market. There is a lot of confidence, but there are also too many unknowns, like what the Phone 3 looks like or how Nothing will support it in the long run. Apple and Samsung are both very big companies with strong networks, so their devices are more readily available and then, once people buy them, they can be rest assured these phones will last them for upwards of five years at the very least. Nothing claims that the Phone 3 has software 'that really levels things up' while its hardware choices could be a nice change of pace from what's already out there. Nothing is ready, but the real question is, how many people are ready to drop their Galaxys and iPhones for it? Time will In

Samsung Galaxy S25 hidden features you wish you had tried sooner

The Samsung Galaxy S25 hit the market on 7th February 2025 and instantly made waves with its powerful hardware and sleek design. But if you've got one in your hands, chances are you're still not using it to it's full potential. Beyond the flashy specs and polished UI are hidden tools and underrated features that can completely change how you use your phone. Here are some tools you can download from the Galaxy Store, features worth exploring and smart settings to tweak for a more powerful experience. Install Good Lock and Good Guardians Good Lock and Good Guardians are two of Samsung's best-kept secrets that open up a whole new layer of customisation and system control. Good Lock lets you theme your keyboard, tweak your lock screen and even animate your always-on display. Meanwhile, Good Guardians gives you handy modules like Nice Catch that tracks mystery vibrations and alerts on your phone and Thermal Guardian to monitor what's heating up your phone. The Auto Blocker feature stops apps from being installed if they're not from the Google Play Store or Samsung's app store. In fact, it also blocks certain commands that come through USB connections. If you are someone who just downloads apps from trusted stores and doesn't tinker with your phone, you should keep this feature turned on. But if you like to explore apps outside Google Play Store and Samsung Galaxy, you might want to turn this feature off so it doesn't block you. Does your phone performance start dipping over time? You can let your phone auto-reboot weekly or customise accordingly. Head to Settings > Device Care > Auto Optimisation. Developer Options is a hidden settings menu on Android phones. It's mostly meant for developers and tech-savvy users, but some of the features inside can be helpful for anyone who wants more control over the device. How to enable Developer Options on Galaxy S25: Go to Settings. Scroll down and tap About phone. Tap Software information. Find Build number and tap it 7 times. Enter your PIN or pattern when asked. You'll now see Developer Options at the bottom of the main Settings menu, tap to confirm. Don't disable RAM Plus What is RAM Plus? RAM Plus uses some storage space to act like extra memory for smoother performance. This feature helps you keep your apps open for longer without affecting the storage, speed or battery of your S25. Moreover, if you see a sudden boost on your device, trust us, it was not due to disabling RAM Plus, but from rebooting. Make the most of Modes and Routines Check out the Modes and Routines option in the Settings Menu. WearOS smartwatches will soon warn you about earthquakes: Here's how Google's alert system works

In 2020, Google launched its Android earthquake alerts feature - a clever system that can actually detect unusual seismic activity by analysing sensor data from millions of phones. If the system picks up on something out of the ordinary, it sends users an alert about the earthquake, including extra details like how strong it is and how far away the epicentre is. You cross your fingers you'll never have to use it, but just knowing it exists is reassuring enough. And now, this feature is strapping itself onto your wrist, ready to send life-saving alerts straight to your smartwatch. The first sign of this new feature came from the Google System Release Notes page, which quietly mentioned that users will 'get alerts on Wear when an earthquake is expected to cause shaking.' 'Wear' here almost certainly refers to WearOS, Google's smartwatch operating system that powers devices from brands like Samsung, Fossil, and more. So, if you're someone who wears a Galaxy Watch or any other WearOS device, you'll soon be able to get earthquake alerts right on your wrist. It looks like this update is rolling out with Google Play Service version 25.21. While Google hasn't officially announced the release yet, but Android Authority spotted early hints of it in an APK teardown. That means the groundwork is already being laid, and it's only a matter of time before the feature goes live for everyone. Here's how it'll work: if Google's system detects shaking, your compatible smartwatch will buzz with an alert, just like your phone does now. You'll get the same information - magnitude, distance to the epicentre, and a heads-up that shaking is expected. It's a small addition, but it could make a huge difference, especially if your phone isn't nearby. Think about those times you're out for a run, in the kitchen, or just have your phone charging in another room - your watch will still keep you in the loop. Why does this matter? Because earthquakes are unpredictable and can cause devastating damage, especially in densely populated places like India. Having an early warning - even if it's just a few seconds - can give people enough time to get to safety. Sure, no alert system is perfect, but expanding this feature to smartwatches means more people can be reached, more quickly. That's a win for everyone.
