Commanders QB Jayden Daniels upsets Eagles' fans again

Jayden Daniels was asked about the toughest CB to face in the NFL right now. 🤔He said that Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell was a good choice but that wasn't his answer: pic.twitter.com/J8URG4vCR3
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels had one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history last fall. You could argue that Daniels' rookie season rivals any in professional sports history. In addition to individual success, Daniels led the Commanders to 12 wins and an appearance in the NFC championship game. It was Washington's best season in 33 years.
Washington's division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, also had an impressive rookie class last season. First-round cornerback Quinyon Mitchell and second-round corner Cooper DeJean led the Eagles' rookie class. Mitchell finished second in the voting for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
On Saturday at Fanatics Fest in New York City, Daniels was asked about the toughest cornerback to face. He was asked about Mitchell, but said he was most looking forward to facing Denver's Patrick Surtain II in 2025. Surtain won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in only his fourth season.
Of course, Eagles fans found some way to be disrespected by Daniels' saying he was most looking forward to facing Surtain. The Commanders will play the Eagles twice, and the Broncos are on Washington's slate this season.
Why were Philadelphia fans mad? Just read the comments, if you choose. Since the Commanders came back late in the fourth quarter to upset the Eagles in Week 16 last season — a game in which Daniels threw five touchdown passes — Philly fans have had an unhealthy obsession with Daniels. Despite all the Eagles' success, some Philadelphia fans turn their attention to Daniels, even when he's not involved.
Why? Because they know Daniels is special. The Commanders having Daniels also means that Washington is no longer a pushover. The old NFC East rivalry is back.

NFL Draft analyst sees shades of Eagles great in rookie Jihaad Campbell

If this one turns out to be accurate, the Eagles certainly have something on their hands. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand why fans, NFL stars, and the media advise against comparing young and relatively unknown Philadelphia Eagles to legends. Think about the type of pressure it creates. It's hard enough to play football being an original. Playing in someone's shadow is something else entirely. Imagine what might have happened if Cam Jurgens had been dubbed Jason Kelce's second coming. Heck… Three years ago, Sal Paolantonio stated that Jalen Hurts and Tom Brady shared similar mindsets. People nearly went off the deep end. Here's the catch. Comparing guys who haven't accomplished anything to established veterans can sometimes motivate if the youngster has an alpha personality. Count Jihaad Campbell in that number. Respected draft pundit compares Jihaad Campbell to Jeremiah Trotter One of the exciting subplots of the coming Eagles season is the continued development of Jeremiah Trotter Jr., you may have heard. He's the son of a franchise legend. Here's what's funny, though. FOX Sports NFL Draft analyst Rob Kang recently dropped his take on one rookie on each NFL team that conjures up memories of a franchise star. He compared Philadelphia's first-round draft choice, Jihaad Campbell, to Jeremiah Trotter Sr. He lists the following as his reasoning for doing so. "Until free agent addition Zack Baun earned All-Pro honors and Super Bowl glory in his first season in Philadelphia (earning a contract extension), no Eagles' off-ball linebacker had been named a Pro Bowler until Trotter, whose son is now on the roster. Campbell needs time to develop, but his speed in coverage and experience as a pass rusher could make him quite the weapon." The Axe Man played 11 NFL seasons. Eight of those were spent in Philadelphia with the Eagles. During that run, he racked up 696 tackles, 11 sacks, seven interceptions, and seven forced fumbles during 116 regular-season games with 95 starts. He stacked another 76 tackles, a sack and a half, an interception, and a forced fumble in 11 playoff games. If the skill we saw from Campbell translates to the professional level, and there is some Trotter in there, this should be fun. Fingers are crossed that the rookie gets healthy as quickly as possible.

Former Packers Midseason Steal Delivers Blunt Message About Possible Reunion

Former Packers Midseason Steal Delivers Blunt Message About Possible Reunion originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Rasul Douglas quickly became a fan favorite in Green Bay after the Packers signed him off the Arizona Cardinals practice squad in October 2021. His first signature moment came in Week 8 when he intercepted Kyler Murray on the final play of the game to seal a road win over the then-undefeated Cardinals. Advertisement Douglas went on to record a career-high five interceptions that year, followed by four more in 2022. He opened the 2023 season as a starter in Green Bay's secondary but was traded midseason to the Buffalo Bills, where he finished the 2023 campaign and played through the 2024 season. The former Packers cornerback is currently a free agent. With Green Bay thin on depth at the position, adding an experienced player like Douglas could make sense as a reunion. When asked, Douglas weighed in on the possibility, giving a measured and straightforward response. Another fan said that he hopes Douglas will return to Green Bay, and the former Green Bay Packer responded with a funny comment. Advertisement "They got Bo melton," Douglas wrote. Douglas is referring to the cornerback experiment Green Bay conducted with wide receiver Bo Melton during mandatory minicamp. The Packers added Nate Hobbs via free agency and Micah Robinson in the draft. However, the Melton experiment shows they are still exploring solutions for the secondary—even if it is only for emergency depth. The Packers better hope that Nate Hobbs, Keisean Nixon, and Carrington Valentine can stay healthy this season because if any of them go down, the cornerback group will be even thinner than it already is. The few moves Green Bay made to improve their cornerback room suggest a belief in internal growth and a strong trust in Jeff Hafley's ability to develop talent from within. Advertisement Still, the NFL can be an unpredictable business sometimes, and while Douglas has his reasons to doubt a reunion, a midseason return could make sense—especially given his familiarity with the system, his experience under Matt LaFleur, and the connections he already has on the defense. Mariners' Cal Raleigh hits 30th homer, 1st switch-hitter to reach that mark before MLB All-Star break

One day after setting the MLB record for home runs by a catcher before the All-Star break, the Seattle Mariners' Cal Raleigh put his name at the top of another historic list. Raleigh hit his 30th homer during Saturday's 10-7 loss to the Chicago Cubs, the most by a switch-hitter. That moved him ahead of Mickey Mantle, José Ramírez and Lance Berkman on that particular list. Advertisement Additionally, Raleigh is the first player to hit 30 home runs in his team's first 75 games since 2001, when Barry Bonds and Luis Gonzalez achieved that feat. That's happened 12 times in MLB history, with eight hitters reaching that mark before the season's unofficial halfway point. One of those hitters is Ken Griffey Jr., making Raleigh the second Mariners hitter to reach 30 homers by the All-Star break. Griffey did it three times during his career, hitting 35 homers in 1998, 33 in 1994 and 30 in 1997. Raleigh also joined an exclusive list for catchers with his 30th homer, becoming the fourth player at the position to notch three seasons with 30 homers or more. He hit 30 home runs in 2023 and 34 last season. That puts Raleigh with Mike Piazza, Johnny Bench and Roy Campanella as the only other catchers with multiple seasons of 30-plus home runs. Raleigh's historic homer came in the ninth inning off Cubs reliever Daniel Palencia, smacking a 99.4 mph fastball high in the strike zone to the opposite field. Advertisement 'To get in his last at-bat after a day of 95 degrees, he's a fighter," Mariners manager Dan Wilson said after the game, via "The Big Dumper" hit his home run batting left-handed, after hitting two batting right-handed on Friday. For the season, 20 of his homers are from the left side of the plate with 10 coming as a right-handed batter. Overall, Raleigh is batting .272/.377/.649 with 14 doubles, 64 RBI and nine stolen bases with his 30 homers in 324 plate appearances. But with Saturday's defeat, the Mariners dropped to 38-37, putting them five games behind the Houston Astros (44-33) for second place in the AL West. On the other side, the Cubs improved to 46-30, giving them a 4.5-game lead in the NL Central over the Milwaukee Brewers. Ian Happ and Kyle Tucker began the bottom of the first with back-to-back homers, while Michael Busch and Pete Crow-Armstrong also went deep. Happ drove in four runs, while Busch had three RBI.
