Heart Of Honor primed for crack at Preakness glory

The three-year-old enjoyed an excellent winter campaign in Dubai, impressing in victories at Meydan in December and January before finishing second in three successive races, most notably when beaten by a nose when bidding to emulate former Osborne star Toast Of New York in the UAE Derby.
Toast Of New York was famously beaten a nose in the Breeders' Cup Classic at the end of his three-year-old campaign and 11 years on, Heart Of Honor is now set to begin an arduous journey to Baltimore to make his Stateside debut in the second leg of the American Triple Crown on May 17.
Osborne said: 'He leaves here tomorrow and there's lots of moving parts to his life over the next five or six days, which makes it even tougher for him, but sadly there's no way around that.
'He'll land in Churchill Downs sort of middle of the night tomorrow, he'll do his 48 hours quarantine there, then we're going to exercise him on the track at Churchill for a couple of days and then ship him down to Pimlico on Monday afternoon.
'It's 11 hours from Churchill Downs to Pimlico, which is not ideal, but clearly he's a horse that wouldn't ever run in Europe, so if we weren't doing this, he'd have his shoes off and be having a break and it's a long time between now and next winter's Middle Eastern season.'
Osborne insists Heart Of Honor has shown him all the right signs since returning from Meydan and confirmed his daughter Saffie will keep the ride at Pimlico.
He added: 'If at any stage he'd come back from Dubai and showed us that he wasn't going to be able to perform at his best over the next couple of months, then we wouldn't be going, but they're only a three-year-old once, he appears to have thrived since he came back, so we felt it was a risk worth taking.
'He improved during his stay in Meydan, he looked to have improved physically before the UAE Derby and obviously that reflected in his race – and it looks like he's continued to improve.
'We're under no illusions, it's a tough ask for him, but I believe he's not a forlorn hope.'

Glasgow Warriors miss out on URC final after loss against Leinster

Leinster will host next week's United Rugby Championship final at Croke Park after dishing out a 37-19 beating to last year's winners Glasgow Warriors. The Irish province, which had endured three straight URC semi-final defeats, regained their mojo to set up a Dublin decider against the Bulls or Sharks. Dan Sheehan started and finished the first half's try-scoring to give Leinster a 25-5 lead as Jamie Osborne and Tom Clarkson crossed at a rain-hit Aviva Stadium. Osborne and Ciaran Frawley made it six tries to one before closing scores from Jamie Dobie and Sione Tuipulotu added to George Horne's fourth-minute effort. The hosts hit the ground running with Jamison Gibson-Park pulling the trigger for Sheehan to raid over in the second minute. Glasgow swiftly cut the gap to 7-5 when Kyle Rowe's inviting kick infield was dotted down by Horne. Crossing from James Lowe denied Leinster a second try before Sam Prendergast slotted over a 21st-minute penalty. A Gibson-Park forward pass ruled out an Osborne score, but the young centre duly scored out wide from a slick Lowe offload. Leinster turned a scrum penalty into five more points when Clarkson rumbled over, and Sheehan's maul try came on the stroke of half-time. Despite Tom Jordan switching to fly-half for the Warriors, Leinster, aided by Ryan Baird's player-of-the-match performance, remained in full control. Following a penalty miss from Prendergast, who had a disappointing day with the boot, Gibson-Park clinically played in Osborne in the 53rd minute to make it 32-5. Replacement Frawley followed him over the line just four minutes later, with Lowe's initial aerial take igniting a sweeping move. Sprung from the Scots' bench, Dobie raced over in the 71st minute and Tuipulotu displayed his dancing feet with a superb solo try from the edge of Leinster's 22. Portuguese coach Castro joins Al-Wasl for fresh start in UAE

June 4 (Reuters) - - Portuguese coach Luis Castro has been given a shot at redemption in Middle Eastern football after former United Arab Emirates champions Al-Wasl appointed him for the upcoming season months after his high-profile exit from Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr. Castro, 63, departed the Saudi team in September following a title near-miss. Even with Ronaldo claiming the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot during his tenure, Castro's inability to deliver the championship ultimately cost him his position in Riyadh. "Al-Wasl officially signed the Portuguese coach Luis Castro to lead 'the Emperor' in the upcoming competitions," the Dubai club announced on social media, welcoming him to their Zabeel headquarters. He replaces Serbian Milos Milojevic, who was dismissed after Al-Wasl finished only fourth in the league to miss out on the Asian Champions League Elite. The well-travelled Castro, whose coaching career includes stints at Qatar's Al Duhail, Brazil's Botafogo and Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk, now faces the challenge of elevating Al-Wasl from AFC Champions League Two contenders back to the UAE summit.

Ashleigh Gentle keen to bounce back in San Francisco T100

The Australian had previously won twice in Singapore but was unable to replicate her achievements amidst the stifling heat of this year's race, finishing sixth, almost 10 minutes behind T100 debutant Kate Waugh. Saturday's San Francisco showpiece will be hosted at the iconic Escape from Alcatraz course and Gentle is relishing the opportunity to make amends. She reflected: "Singapore was an interesting one because I felt like I'd done a lot of really good training before the race and I didn't expect to be so far behind my usual mark. "I rode the worst I'd ridden since I moved to middle distance and was so far off my best in the run. "It wasn't great but reflecting back, I finished my season in mid-December last year. I think I rushed too quickly to be fit for Singapore because it meant so much to me and I overcooked it. "I fit too much in and wasn't quite there. It's not how I usually perform. "I was upset about it after the race but I just had to accept it and move on because I knew it wasn't anywhere near what I'm capable of." The T100 Triathlon World Tour takes in locales as varied as Vancouver, London, the French Riviera, Valencia, Lake Las Vegas and Dubai over the course of a globetrotting campaign. And having finished runner-up last year, Gentle has an eye on going one step further, beginning with this Saturday's Stateside showdown. She added: "The fields have always been exceptionally good and you have new faces this year. "Everyone's coming out and delivering really quickly because they're putting a lot of importance on the racing and are excited about the series. "Everyone has trained for it and is ready for it so it's about just getting to each race and seeing how you stack up and seeing how you can put good races together and not be off the mark. "Kate [Waugh] did really well. She's a super strong athlete, most people knew that and for her to convert to t100 and win her first ever event was a huge moment for her. "You could tell she was happy and super excited and it was nice to see that elation on her face when she crossed the finish line. "There were a lot of us who wished we were closer in the competition but she's really fit right now and deserved that win. "A huge group of us are looking at her and how she set the bar really high this season and it's about us getting to that level." Watch the world's top 20 female and top 20 male triathletes race live in the San Francisco T100 over the legendary Escape From Alcatraz course on Saturday 31 May. The broadcast starts at 0545 local time, 1345 in the UK, with the races starting 15 minutes later. You can tune in live for free globally on PTO+ or watch on partners channels such as TNT Sports 2 in the UK, Max or Discovery+ in Europe, or beIN in North America. For more details visit
