Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni, two heroes of India's 2011 ODI World Cup-winning captain reunited once again recently, the picture of which went viral on social media. Along with Gambhir and Dhoni, several other Indian cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Parthiv Patel, Tilak Varma and Harbhajan Singh were also pictured at the wedding of Utkarsh Sanghvi, brother of Gujarat Minister of State, Harsh Sanghvi.
While Dhoni, in a green blazer and white shirt, looked dapper alongside wife Sakshi Singh Dhoni, Gambhir was spotted in a grey shirt. The duo were spotted having a laugh together. Both Dhoni and Gambhir have been on friendly terms despite the current Indian head coach's reported rift with the two-time World Cup-winning captain. Recently, Gambhir was spotted at Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain. Bollywood superstar and now father-in-law of Indian cricketer KL Rahul, Sunil Shetty, was also pictured in the event.
Gambhir, who took up the job of Indian head coach last year, has experienced a mixed bag so far. Following the defeats against New Zealand and Australia in Tests, India's high point under Gambhir in the longest format came recently in England when India drew the five-match series 2-2, despite trailing twice during the tour. Earlier, India had won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, under Gambhir's guidance. Among other Bollywood celebrities, Kriti Sanon and Varun Sharma were also seen at the event. Meanwhile, Rohit, who retired from Tests and T20Is, has started his preparation for the ODI series against Australia in October after a long vacation with family.
What's next for Indian team & Gautam Gambhir?
With no international commitments in August, the Indian team will next be seen at the Asia Cup 2025, to be held in UAE from September 9.

Sanju Samson left hanging in Asia Cup drama as Shubman Gill debate rages: Opener? No. 5? Or left out altogether?

Sanju Samson has become the talk of Indian cricket. On one hand, speculation surrounds his next Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise after reports that he told Rajasthan Royals he wants to part ways before the 2026 season; on the other, he finds himself in the thick of the selection drama for the upcoming Asia Cup. The selectors are expected to announce the T20I squad on Tuesday at a press conference in Mumbai. Will Sanju Samson make the India Asia Cup squad?(AP) Samson should be a certainty, having smashed three centuries in his last 12 T20Is after being backed extensively as an opener. However, Shubman Gill's recent form in the Test series against England has reignited calls for his inclusion in the T20I squad. Given that the 25-year-old is also a top-order batter, his selection could push Samson down to the middle order or even leave him out altogether — a scenario former India cricketer Aakash Chopra warned 'would not be a good story' for the Kerala star. Speaking on the selection dilemma for the Asia Cup on his YouTube channel, Chopra said: "I do not think anyone needs to go out. It is important that you keep another opener with you. India did not pick a third opener (in the T20I series against England). They were not even thinking about who would open if either Abhishek Sharma or Sanju Samson loses form. If you do not keep the third opener here, you will have to keep him in the World Cup." "However, if Shubman Gill is the third opener, do you want to make him sit on the bench? If you don't do that and play him in the XI, in whose place will you play him? If that player's name is Sanju Samson, who will keep? That is the problem. You do not see Sanju Samson batting in the middle order. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma will play at number three and number four. Sanju at No. 5? That would not be a good story," he added. Chopra further explained that if a third opener is included, it won't be at Abhishek Sharma's expense but Samson's, which would make India's recent investment in him as an opener seem wasted. The Sunrisers Hyderabad star had put on a stunning show in the home series against England earlier this year, where he scored 279 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 219.68. "If the third opener plays, he cannot play in place of Abhishek Sharma. He will play in place of Sanju Samson, and you won't see Sanju Samson playing in the middle order. Then you will start feeling that you wasted the investment you made in the last 12 matches. Suddenly, from being the opener, he is out," he said. The former Indian batter also said that Gill's ability to fit into a destructive batting template was questionable, unlike Yashasvi Jaiswal, who he felt naturally suited that DNA. "What goes agaisnt Shubman? If you want to make a destructive team, can Shubman Gill become a part of that DNA? That is the big question. Yashasvi Jaiswal can definitely become a part of that DNA, but are they thinking about Yashasvi?" Chopra observed.

"Put 4 Men On Rohit Sharma, Make Him Run 10 Km Every Morning": Yograj Singh

Former India player Yograj Singh has praised India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma. While slamming the critics of the star batter, Yograj said that Rohit should play for another five years for India. Notably, Rohit called time on his T20I career right after India's World Cup win in June last year. In May this year, Rohit put curtains on his Test career as well. He remains active only in the ODIs as the skipper and opening batter for the side. Rohit's last appearance for India was the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand in March this year. "The man about whom so many people speak rubbish, Rohit Sharma - I said that day that Rohit will be my man, the man, my man," Yograj told News18 CricketNext. "The way he batted, his batting one side and the rest of the team's batting on the other side. His innings on one side and the rest of the world on the other. That's his class. You can say, 'Rohit, aapki hume 5 saal aur zarurat hai yaar' (Rohit, we need you for five more years, man) so please do more for your country, work on your fitness and everything. Put four men on him, make him run 10 kilometres every morning. He has the class to play till 45 years of age, if he wants," he added. Yograj also lashed out at those who comment on Rohit's game and fitness without having good experience of competitive cricket. He also advised the player to play domestic cricket to keep up with his fitness. "I believe you should play domestic cricket; the more you play that, the fitter you'll be. Who got the Man of the Match in the final? Rohit Sharma. So you should only talk about things that you know. If you want to talk about his game and fitness, do that only if you have played at some level. Do you feel ashamed for talking like this?" Yograj said.

Turns out, Pathan had quite the fierce rivalry with former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi as well. It was, after all, a rivalry that was ignited by Afridi comment in an interview with eminent broadcaster Harsha Bhogle, in which he had labelled the left-arm pacer a 'fake Pathan'. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The comment fired Pathan up to the extent that he made it a point to dismiss him every time the two came face to face on the cricket ground. The result? In an interview on Lallantop, the cricketer-turned-commentator revealed how he had shut Afridi up while the two were on a flight during India's tour of Pakistan in 2006. 'During the 2006 tour, we were flying from Karachi to Lahore. Both teams were travelling together. Afridi came and put his hand on my head and messed up my hair. He asked me, 'How are you kid?'' Pathan revealed during the conversation. 'I thought since when did you become my father. He behaved like a child. I was neither talking to him nor saying anything. After this Afridi said some bad things to me. His seat was near mine.
