Johari Abdul Ghani: Acting ministers crucial for continuity ahead of Parliament session
Johari, who has been tasked with temporarily overseeing the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, said the move is also necessary to address pressing issues under the ministry's purview.
'When there's a vacancy, the Prime Minister appoints someone to take on the role temporarily. With Parliament about to sit, there will be questions that require answers. For example, the Ministry of Economy needs to finalise the 13th Malaysia Plan, so someone has to be appointed to get the job done quickly.
'That's why an acting role is important to resolve critical matters within the next month or two,' he told reporters after officiating the 2025 Umno Kuantan Division Delegates' Meeting today.
Yesterday, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar announced that Johari has been appointed to carry out the duties and functions of the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability with immediate effect.
On May 28, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad announced his resignation as Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, effective July 4.
Earlier, on June 27, Shamsul Azri announced that Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan had been appointed acting Minister of Economy, effective immediately, following the resignation of Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli on June 17.
Both Rafizi and Nik Nazmi stepped down after failing to retain their respective positions as PKR deputy president and vice president in the party elections held in May. — Bernama

JOHOR BARU, July 13 — Instead of the usual sweet and fragrant pandan kuih bakar, a husband-and-wife team here are making savoury versions of the traditional delicacy, experimenting with new flavours including durian, beef and sardines. 'We want to change the perception that kuih bakar is only meant to be sweet. It can also be savoury and come in a variety of flavours... Shahrilnizam said this unique kuih bakar, which takes between 45 minutes and one hour to bake, is a hit with Singaporean customers, many of whom are willing to wait for long periods to take home their favourite flavours, particularly durian and sardine. During the holiday season, sales can reach up to 450 pieces a day, compared to an average of 200 on regular days, indicating how innovation can elevate this traditional Malaysian delicacy to unexpected heights. Umno will not abandon BN component partners, says Zahid
SUNGAI BULOH: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed today that the party will not abandon its component partners in Barisan Nasional (BN), MCA, MIC and Friends of BN, no matter what the situation. Zahid, who is also BN chairman, also urged component parties not to be hasty nor threaten to leave the coalition in light of current political challenges. "I tell my (component) partners, currently it's tough, MIC has one seat, MCA has two and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) one seat in Sabah. "We (Umno) also have it tough, only 26 seats, used to be 64 and before then over a hundred. "In times of trouble, Umno will not abandon MCA, MIC, PBRS or Friends of BN. "This is our way, don't threaten to leave during hard times," he said during his speech officiating the Selayang Umno division delegates' meeting here on Saturday. He also denied allegations that BN component parties like MCA were sidelined in seat allocations, including Malay-majority seats, during a media conference after the meeting, pointing out that MCA and MIC were entrusted with contesting in traditional Malay seats. "Which Malay-majority seat do we not give to MCA? Tanjung Piai isn't a Malay seat? Or Ayer Hitam isn't a Malay seat? All Malay seats that we give to MCA means we respect them.
