Whenever Toyota drops a new EV, you won't have to wait long for the accompanying Subaru sibling. The Subaru Solterra followed the Toyota bZ4x back in 2023, now known as the bZ, while Toyota's stretched bZ Woodland arrived not long after the surprisingly quick Subaru Trailseeker dropped at the 2025 New York International Auto Show. Clearly, Subaru and Toyota's electric partnership is holding strong, as Subaru welcomes a third sibling to its electric lineup.
Known as the 2026 Subaru Uncharted, the new compact electric crossover shares its platform with the re-launched Toyota C-HR, which was revealed in May. The Uncharted will be Subaru's first electric, compact crossover and is set to be offered in three trim levels—Premium FWD, Sport, and GT. Riding on the same TNGA-C architecture as the C-HR, the Uncharted gets its energy via an identical 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
Sport trim and GT trim units of the Uncharted are propelled by a pair of electric motors with a total output of 338 hp. This makes the upscale trim levels of the Uncharted AWD, but Subaru is quick to point out that the Uncharted is not an exact copy of the Toyota. Keen readers will notice that the Subaru Uncharted is also available in front-wheel-drive form, departing from the Toyota C-HR's standard AWD configuration. Premium FWD units of the Uncharted are down significantly on power—221 hp is fed through a single e-motor upfront—but benefit from a middling range increase. This will make it the only Subaru outside of the BRZ on sale today in the U.S. that doesn't come standard with AWD.
Subaru says AWD versions of the Uncharted will be able to go 290 miles on a single charge. Front-wheel-drive versions will go the distance at over 300 miles of range, though Subaru declined to give specific mileage figures ahead of official EPA testing. Charging will be accomplished through standard NACS charge ports at speeds up to 150 kW. Subaru claims the Uncharted will be able to juice up from 10 percent to 80 percent in nearly 30 minutes. Affordability, long-range accessibility, and a relatively small difference in manufacturing needs are likely behind Subaru's decision to offer a FWD version, but it is curious that Toyota's initial market entrance for the C-HR is a more premium one.
"During benchmarking, we brought some of the competitors into two groups — the normal, let's say daily use cars, and the premium cars. Now, we are in the premium group," Daisuke Ido, chief engineer of the bZ and C-HR lineup, said in an interview with Road & Track earlier this year.
Another difference between Toyota's C-HR and the Subaru Uncharted is in the suspension. Subaru says its own engineers tuned the suspension on the Uncharted to better meet its customers' needs, including those who plan to drive on loose surfaces such as gravel, dirt, and snow. The adventure-forward brand even went as far as to say the Uncharted would offer dynamic performance "on and off road." City dwellers less concerned with performance will find the Uncharted has a nearly identical turning radius to the Crosstrek, which isn't all that impressive to begin with.
The interior of Subaru's Uncharted will be a familiar blend of Subaru and Toyota technology, akin to the rest of the joint-venture born Japanese EVs. A 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, dual USB-C chargers, and an All-Weather package are standard on all Uncharted models. That means heated front seats, windshield wiper de-icer, and a power rear gate are equipped on even the base model Uncharted. Sport trims add Subaru's characteristic X-Mode traction system, a heated steering wheel, and StarTex upholstery. Top-of-the-line GT models add on a panoramic moonroof, 20-inch wheels, ventilated front seats, and a Harmon Kardon audio system.
The 2026 Subaru Uncharted will arrive at dealerships nationwide by early 2026. Prospective buyers may cross-shop Hyundai's Kona EV and the Kia Niro EV, but we can't say how competitive the Uncharted will be without specific pricing details. We suspect it will start around $35,000, or perhaps even lower for the Premium FWD trim, but we'll have to wait and see just how affordable Subaru's newest EV will be.

Lemon laws, by nature, are meant to protect consumers, and last year Colorado made changes to the existing law to add further protections. While there were positive changes made through this legislation, one woman is coming forward with her story of how it's left her stranded. When Rosa Hernandez purchased a brand-new Toyota Corolla Cross, she was ecstatic. "It has all the bells and whistles, all the great safety features," said Hernandez. "And I was happy. I was very excited until it started having issues." After putting just 22,000 miles on the vehicle, it began to have serious issues. "Within that month, you know that this vehicle was in the shop for about 22 days for three different reasons," Hernandez said. The issues included brake problems, prompting Hernandez to request that Toyota replace or repurchase the vehicle. Under the updated Colorado Lemon Law, manufacturers can decide the remedy. In her case, she says Toyota chose the buy-back option. "Having to deal with this already, has already caused me a lot of emotional distress," said Hernandez. Another change in the law establishes a formula for manufacturers to calculate how much they can deduct from a car owner's refund. But Hernandez' attorney says the way the law is written allows manufacturers to inflate numbers. "It says total contract price," said Shalev Amar of Amar Law Group, representing Hernandez. "The issue is there's a bunch of items that go to the total contract price that have nothing to do with the actual vehicle purchase price. For example, if there's maintenance, service contracts, extended warranties, things of that nature." Hernandez and the attorneys she's working with say Toyota agreed to pay off the remainder of her loan and take the vehicle back, but she'll have to pay over $5,000 in what they call 'usage fees'. "Where am I going to even get that money to start off with?" said Hernandez. Adding in the $15,000 she's already made in payments, Hernandez would be paying over $20,000 toward a vehicle, with no vehicle to show for it. "Our firm operates in 12 states," said Amar. "Of all the states that we operate in, I would say the Colorado Lemon Law is the worst." And in the meantime, Hernandez is paying on a car that just sits in the driveway. "I just want to bring fairness. I just want a fair option, and that's all I'm asking for," she said. CBS Colorado reached out to the bill's sponsors but hasn't been able to get in touch with them on whether they think the law needs to be modified.

'Maybe Karen's are right sometimes, because what do you mean Toyota isn't warranting a car I bought seven months ago?' he writes in an on-screen caption. In a follow-up post , he explains why Toyota denied him coverage to fix his steering wheel. The video reveals the steering wheel leather bubbling, which he believes will peel shortly. 'That's not covered by warranty because that could be your hand oils,' he says the dealership told him. 'I don't drive telekinetically, I drive with my hands,' Zane replies. Zane told Motor1 , '​​I have my steering wheel Softex 'leather' bubbling up and detaching from the wheel at under 30k miles, only after buying it 7 months ago. The dealer sent it to Toyota which they denied due to 'external factors' but can't say the exact reason why. It's been escalated, but I was told it is unlikely to be fixed.' SofTex is a synthetic leather seat material designed for wear, easy cleaning, and resisting spills, Toyota reports. While SofTex is supposed to be easy to clean, other Toyota drivers have shared similar frustrations with the SofTex leather peeling apart . 'A brand new car denying a warranty because hands touch the wheel. This steering wheel isn't designed to be touched. The leather started to disintegrate and it's not your problem?' Zane concludes. This Happens All the Time Viewers chimed in to share about their Toyota warranty stories and how they were also denied coverage. 'Nope, they will fight tooth and nail to avoid warranting. I had a 23 Tundra and my motor blew 'known issue now' and they partially rebuilt it and left bad parts in. They just told me 'oops nothing we can do now',' one TikTok commenter shared. 'Toyota declined to warranty an axle replacement. I have an extended warranty & they said because I had lowering springs they wouldn't be covering it,' another replied. 'I've been a Toyota MDT since 2005. This happens all the time to customers. Any type of outside influence results in the repair not being covered by Toyota,' a master diagnostic technician shared. Additionally, Toyota drivers on car enthusiast forums have shared their stories about coverage being denied. These denied warranty claims included issues with technology , blown engines , and transmissions . 'Toyota has a long history of giving people run-arounds on warranty & recalls. Their service centers are a joke,' one TikTok commenter shared. What Causes a Warranty Claim to Be Denied? Automakers and warranty companies are in business to make money, which means that they aren't ecstatic to pay every claim that comes through, CarTalk reports. According to Lawyers , vehicle warranty claims can be denied for several reasons, including: Failing to maintain the vehicle or not following a regular maintenance schedule: This includes not doing oil changes, tire rotations, or scheduling other routine services as specified in the owner's manual. Using unauthorized parts or service providers: Using aftermarket parts for modifications or using an unauthorized service center may disqualify your warranty. Misuse or abuse of the vehicle: This includes using the vehicle in a way that the manufacturer didn't intend, like going off-road in a car that isn't designed for that activity, racing, or overloading the vehicle beyond the recommended amount. What Should You Do If Your Claim Is Denied? A claim denial is not the end of the road. Once you've received an official claim denial, you should ask for a copy of the decision in writing, CarTalk reports. Once you know the reason for the claim denial, you might be able to dispute it by providing supporting documentation such as receipts and repair records, Lawyers states. In the case of Zane, viewers suggest contacting Toyota of America . 'Contact Toyota of America, they hate it when you do that,' one shared. 'I did and they gave the same run around,' Zane replied. More viewers suggested taking this denied claim to the attorney general and filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) . 'Then go to the attorney general in your state. Also make sure you did nothing to void the warranty,' one commenter suggested. 'File a complaint with the BBB,' another added. Because 'when the battery finally fails, it can be $4,000-$10,000 to replace.' That money will come in handy. The Value Factor Before buying, Pyle recommends checking Kelly Blue Book to avoid models that depreciate quickly. 'You do not want to buy a car that loses 20% value on day one,' he warned. Performance Over Time Here's something most dealers won't tell you: 'The perks of owning a hybrid go down the longer you own it,' Pyle explained. 'Every day of use the battery gets a little weaker, [until] the point the hybrid battery is out of power and can no longer help to increase MPG.' The Right Mindset Pyle offered some straight talk about hybrid ownership: 'For lack of a better word. You are cheap, you do not want to buy gas, you want to get the most bang out of every gallon of fuel.' His advice? 'Stay true to your decision and do it all the way.
