Gas firm revises pipework plans after disruption

The firm behind a project to replace gas pipes near a busy junction in Hull has confirmed it has revised its plans to "minimise the inconvenience" caused by the works. Northern Gas Networks has told the BBC it would remove temporary three-way traffic lights from Beverley Road, at the Strand Close junction, on Monday. It followed complaints from motorists that the work, which started on 27 May, had caused delays at the junction of Beverley Road, Ferensway, Freetown Way and Spring Bank. Officials said a "rolling closure" of a bus lane would be in force for 12 weeks while contractors work to replace aging metal pipework with a plastic variant. Northern Gas Networks had apologised on Thursday for the disruption caused by the roadworks and said it had held talks with Hull City Council. In a statement, the firm said the "only remaining restriction" would be the closure of a section of the northbound bus lane on Beverley Road. A spokesperson added: "This will initially be closed from the junction with Strand Close and will be a rolling closure which will gradually move up Beverley Road." Vehicle crashes into pole in front of Roosevelt High, causing power outage, police say

A single-car crash in front of Roosevelt High caused a power outage in the area. The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. at Tulare Street and Cedar avenue when a vehicle collided with a pole, near the gate at Roosevelt, Fresno police said. The crash caused traffic signals to blink before PG&E turned off power to make 'necessary repairs in order to safely turn the power back on.' About 3,549 PG&E customers are affected. The restoration of power is unknown. The injury status to the driver is unknown.
