Karnataka Lokayukta raids IAS officer Vasanthi Amar, 7 other Govt officials in disproportionate assets case

The Karnataka Lokayukta Wednesday launched state-wide raids against eight government officials, including an IAS officer, Vasanthi Amar, in an alleged disproportionate assets case.
Amar is currently appointed as the Special Deputy Commissioner, K-RIDE, which is implementing the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project.
The Karnataka Lokayukta is conducting searches at the IAS officer's R T Nagar residence in Bengaluru.
Last week, an FIR was filed against Amar by the Halasuru Gate police in Bengaluru for allegedly issuing an illegal order related to a 10.2-acre land parcel in Dasanapura hobli, Bengaluru North, between June and September 2024.
The complaint was lodged by Prashanth Khangouda Patil, an office assistant in the deputy commissioner's office. Initially, a non-cognizable report (NCR) was recorded, but it was converted into an FIR under Section 257 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for a public servant corruptly making a report contrary to law, following a court order.
Amar, a 2017-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, was serving as Special Deputy Commissioner-3, Bengaluru North, at the time of the alleged incident.
Raids are also underway at the houses of Manjunathswamy M, Joint Director, Skill Development Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Department, Madikeri; B Venkatarama, Office Assistant (Admin) at Mysore Mahanagar Palike, Mysore; Rajesh M, Assistant Executive Engineer at KIADB, Tumkur Division Office; Sunil Kumar, Executive Engineer, Family and Welfare Office, Kalaburagi; Sheku, Assistant Director, District Industries Centre (DIC), Koppal.
Searches are also underway at locations linked to Bagli Maruti, Assistant Director, City and Rural Project Department, Sahakarnagar, Bengaluru, and H V Yerappa Reddy, Executive Engineer, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), C V Raman Nagar, Bengaluru.

Police have arrested a 53-year-old security guard of a private school in Maharashtra's Palghar district for allegedly sexually abusing two male students, officials said. The alleged incidents occurred between June 15 and 20, the officials said on Sunday (July 27, 2025). The victims, aged 17 and 15, are students of the same school located in Virar area. "The alleged incidents occurred in the canteen of the school," the Arnala police stated. The accused was arrested on Saturday (July 26, 2025)evening, the police added. "After receiving a complaint from the school's manager, we registered an FIR against the watchman, Raymond Wilson Dias, under section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 5, 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act," the Arnala police station official said. Sections 5 of the POCSO Act pertains to penetrative sexual assault. In August 2024, a male sweeper at a school in Badlapur in neighbouring Thane district allegedly sexually abused two four-year-old girls, causing a huge outrage and massive protests. The accused was killed in September last year in the 'retaliatory firing' by police after he allegedly snatched the gun from a policeman in a police vehicle.

T'PURAM: A 24-year-old man sexually assaulted a dentist at her clinic in Pathanapuram in Kollam on Saturday evening. Pathanapuram Police arrested the accused on Sunday. He was identified as Saldan A, a resident of Karamoodu near Pathanapuram. Police suspect that Saldan was under the influence of some drugs when he committed the crime. The clinic was functioning next to the grocery shop run by Saldan's father in the same building at Kallumkadavu. The attack took place when the 43-year-old woman was closing the clinic in the evening. When he spotted her alone, Saldan assaulted her from behind after stuffing a piece of cloth in her mouth. When she cried out for help, locals rushed to the spot from nearby. They alerted the police after which the accused was handed over to them. "He admitted to the crime but regrets his actions," an officer said. Saldan was remanded after being produced before a court on charges under BNS sections 329 (3) for criminal trespass, 126 (2) for wrongful restraint, and 74 for assaulting or using criminal force against a woman with the intention to outrage her modesty. (The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)

Gunshots fired for recording reel injures cab driver; two held

Gunshots allegedly fired for recording a reel ended up injuring a 24-year-old cab driver in Southeast Delhi's Badarpur, police said on Sunday, adding that two men have been apprehended. Another accused is on the run. According to the police, the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, when the Gurgaon-based cab driver, identified as Gautam Saini, was with the accused at a house in the Molarband Extension area. 'Saini was called by one of the accused, Rakesh, to party in Badarpur. They had drinks and even made reels together,' a police officer aware of the investigation said. The officer added that the accused have claimed that as they made the reel, they fired in the air and Saini was accidentally injured. It is still being confirmed if the incident was an accident, police said. 'On July 27, at 06:07 am, a PCR call was received at the Badarpur police station from Apollo Hospital regarding a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) of a gunshot injury sustained by one Gautam Saini,' DCP (South East) Hemant Tiwari said. The police said that upon reaching the hospital, it was found that Saini had a gunshot injury on his head. 'After initial treatment, the family shifted him to AIIMS trauma centre. His condition remains critical but stable. A case has been filed under Section 109 of the BNS and the Arms Act,' DCP Tiwari said. A police officer said that Gautam previously had eleven cases filed against him, while the two accused also have multiple cases registered against them.
