Railways illuminates iconic buildings, stations in tricolour to mark 79th Independence Day
Railway officials said the building and stations, illuminated in tricolours, not only enhances the feeling of enthusiasm, but also reminds citizens of the sacrifices and struggles of our freedom fighters and millions of people who shaped the Independence of the country.
New Delhi, Aug 15 (PTI) Rail divisions across the country illuminated their respective iconic installations such as Anji bridge, Chenab bridge and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus among others in tricolor on the occasion of 79th Independence Day on Friday.
The office of Divisional Railway Manager of Bengaluru, South Eastern Railway zone headquarters, station building such as Sialdah, Lucknow, Vizianagaram were also illuminated as part of the celebrations.
Jammu Rail Division, which comes under Northern Railway Zones, took special initiative to illuminate the world's highest Chenab rail bridge and the country's first cable-styled Anji bridge creating a lively and inspiring atmosphere.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also posted on his X handle an illuminated picture of the Chenab bridge with a patriotic message of Jai Hind.
'Shining in the light of the tricolor, #ChenabBridge, a symbol of the heights of free India,' Railway Ministry said on X.
Besides, the officials from various divisions also participated in the Har Ghar Tricolor campaign and decorated railway stations with tricolour flags. .
'All the railway stations, offices and public places of the division have been decorated with tricolor which shows the symbol of unity, pride and respect towards the national flag,' Divisional Railway Manager, Jammu Division, Vivek Kumar said.
Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division stated, 'The 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign is committed to promote collective feelings of national pride and encourage citizens to participate wholeheartedly in the Independence Day celebrations.' East Coast Railway Zone posted on social media illuminated pictures of Vizianagaram Station with a message, 'East Coast Railway joins the national celebration. Vizianagaram Station shines bright with the tricolour!.' Earlier, on the eve of 79th Independence Day, Chairman & CEO of Railway Board, Satish Kumar, Members, Secretary and other officers & staff participated with the National Flag in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' event held at Rail Bhawan on Thursday.
'The national flag was distributed among Railway staff members. Mass participation was observed by Railway employees in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign.,' the Ministry said.
One of Indian Railway's largest employee unions, All India Railwaymen's Federation organised a Blood Donation Camp as the Independence Day celebration coincided with 75th (Platinum Jubilee) birthday of Federation's General Secretary Shiva Gopal Mishra. King Charles leads tributes to mark 80 years since end of World War II
London, Aug 15 (PTI) King Charles III on Friday led tributes to war veterans from around the world, including Commonwealth countries such as India, for their sacrifice as the UK commemorated the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Victory over Japan (VJ) Day was declared on August 15, 1945, following Imperial Japan's surrender to the Allied Forces. The 80-year milestone was marked with a 'National Service of Remembrance" honouring those who continued to fight and those who lost their lives during the final three months of the Second World War in the Far East. This included thousands of soldiers who served alongside British Armed Forces from countries, including pre-Partition India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Nepal and various African nations. 'On this day of profound remembrance, I speak to you in that same spirit of commemoration and celebration as we honour anew all those whose service and sacrifice saw the forces of liberty prevail," said Charles, in an audio message recorded earlier in the month. 'Their experience reminds us that war's true cost extends beyond battlefields, touching every aspect of life – a tragedy all-too vividly demonstrated by conflicts around the world today," he said. The King and his wife, Queen Camilla, went on to lead a two-minute silence at the remembrance service held at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire, in the West Midlands region of England. An estimated 71,000 soldiers from Britain and the Commonwealth died fighting in the war against Japan, which concluded three months after Victory in Europe (VE) Day on May 8, 1945. 'Eighty years since our victory in the Second World War, we pay our respects to the many who fought, were captured, and made the ultimate sacrifice in the Far East," said Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Maratha LIRC marks Independence Day with cycle rally, run, Tiranga Yatra
Bengaluru, Aug 15 (PTI) The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre organised a series of events to mark the 79th anniversary of India's Independence. The Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence, said in a statement that the events kicked off on August 13 with a cycle rally headed by Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee, Commandant, MARATHA LIRC. The 'Tiranga cycle rally' sought to inspire fitness, eco-awareness, and national pride, it added. On August 14, the 'Tiranga run' brought together officers, JCOs, and ranks in a show of discipline, teamwork, and vitality, reflecting physical readiness and shared purpose. The festivities wrapped up on August 15 with the 'Tiranga Yatra,' a rally highlighting regimental pride, the release said.
