Former India cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath feels that Riyan Parag could be the main reason behind Sanju Samson's possible exit from the Rajasthan Royals franchise. Samson has been an important part of the RR team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for many years. But now, after playing for them for 11 seasons, there are reports that the Kerala-born wicketkeeper-batter could be leaving the franchise.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is being touted as Samson's next stop, but there is no official confirmation on this matter yet. It is believed that CSK is looking for a wicketkeeper-batter to replace MS Dhoni, who is on the verge of his retirement from cricket as he is already 44 years old and is suffering from various fitness issues. The franchise reportedly wants to bring in Samson via a trade deal with RR.

Badrinath on why Samson might leave RR
Now, former CSK batter S Badrinath has stated that Riyan Parag could be the reason behind Samson's potential exit from RR. There have been reports claiming that Samson has requested the RR management to release him before the upcoming IPL 2026 auction.
Reports also suggest that Rajasthan Royals might want to make Parag a permanent part of their leadership group after he captained the team for a few matches last season. Samson had missed the first three games of IPL 2025 because of an injury. Badrinath feels this could make Samson think about joining another team.
'I feel Riyan Parag is the reason. If you consider him for captaincy, how do you expect someone like Samson to stay?' Badrinath said on his YouTube channel.
'If Sanju Samson does come to CSK, then he could be the like-for-like replacement for MS Dhoni. Samson is a batter who can bat in the top three or four spots in the batting order. He is not someone who could fit in the number five or six spot in the playing XI. CSK are strong in those areas of the playing XI. Mhatre is settled, Gaikwad is settled, Brevis is settled,' he added.
'I am not sure if CSK would do a transaction like MI did to get Hardik Pandya from GT. So even if Sanju Samson comes in, the question remains whether CSK can fit him into the playing XI,' he said.

RR Asks Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad Or Shivam Dube For Sanju Samson Trade, Heres How CSK Responded : Report

Speculations around Sanju Samson trade is at level high and nothing has been officially confirmed. While rumours around the IPL continues to build. The chatter shows no signs of dying down, with multiple franchises actively involved Cricbuzz in a new report made some major revelations regarding the blockbuster trade. Following a Cricbuzz report that Samson formally requested to be traded or released, RR has reportedly reached out once again to several franchises to gauge interest. This round of talks is being personally overseen by RR's lead owner, Manoj Badale. Sources suggest Badale has even named specific players from other franchises as potential trade options. Some reports indicate that RR may be close to striking a deal with at least one team. Chennai Super Kings Trade Seems Unlikely Despite widespread rumors, the much-discussed possibility of a trade between RR and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) appears remote at present. RR is said to have requested either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad in exchange for Samson conditions that CSK is reportedly not willing to entertain. Shivam Dube's name has also surfaced in trade discussions, but CSK is reluctant to part with the all-rounder or any core members of their squad. As of mid-August, a Sanju Samson move from Jaipur to Chennai looks unlikely unless CSK reopens negotiations or attempts to sign him through the auction. Uncertainty Around Auction Listing It is also unclear whether Samson's name will feature in the upcoming auction. With ongoing talks between RR and multiple franchises showing significant interest, the player could be signed directly through a trade deal before the auction or remain with RR. Ultimately, the franchise holds the final authority over trade or release decisions; the player's role is generally limited to submitting requests. Reasons Behind Samson's Desire to Move Samson has openly communicated to RR that he is seeking a "new direction" for his career. Tensions between the player and the Royals management have reportedly been growing, including disagreements over the release of Jos Buttler. 'Letting him go has been one of the most challenging decisions for me. During the England series, I told him over dinner that I was still not over it. If I could change one thing in the IPL, I would change the rule of releasing players every three years,' Samson told Star Sports before the last IPL season. RR opted to retain Shimron Hetmyer instead of Buttler, a decision that likely contributed to the strain. Samson Maintains Respectful Stance Despite the ongoing speculation, Samson has remained measured in public. On a recent podcast with Ravichandran Ashwin, he expressed his continued affection for the Royals setup: 'The Rajasthan Royals setup means a world to me.' He also praised Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the promising left-handed batter who displaced him at the top of the order. What Lies Ahead? If RR fail to strike a satisfactory trade deal, Samson might remain with them for IPL 2026, although insiders believe this is becoming increasingly unlikely. With Manoj Badale personally driving negotiations and Cricbuzz seeking official comments, the final resolution of the Sanju Samson trade saga remains uncertain

Ravindra Jadeja for Sanju Samson? RR reportedly approaches CSK and other franchises

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson has reportedly requested a trade or release ahead of the IPL 2026 season. Among the franchises linked to the star wicketkeeper-batter, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has emerged as the frontrunner, according to Cricbuzz. However, RR's demand including a potential swap for all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, or power-hitter Shivam Dube, have stalled negotiations.

‘This is just the start,' says Dewald Brevis after record-breaking 125* off 56 balls vs Australia

Dewald Brevis's utterly incredible 125 not out off 56 balls in the second T20I against Australia was described by his captain Aiden Markram as a 'freakish display' of his talent, which has been spoken of since his days in Under-19 cricket. He broke the record for highest score by a South African in a T20I match, held by Faf du Plessis since 2015. Brevis said after the match that he sees the innings as only the beginning for him. 'This is just the start, if I could say it like that,' he told reporters. 'I just want to keep working hard, do the same things and the next match is the next match. So this 100, I can enjoy it now, think a bit about it, watch it maybe, but then when the next match comes, it's completely a new match and anything can happen.' Brevis may have drawn comparisons to South Africa great AB de Villiers as a teenager, which led to him being known as 'Baby AB'. However, a majority of his shots during his epic knock on Tuesday were clean strikes in the V, whereas De Villiers got the nickname of 'Mr.360' due to his ability to hit to all parts of the ground. De Villiers and fellow South Africa legend Dale Steyn were among those who expressed their amazement on their social media handles, with the former also saying that a number of Indian Premier League (IPL) teams missed out on a chance to sign Brevis in the 2024 IPL auction. Brevis had gone unsold and ended up starring for Chennai Super Kings when the franchise signed him on as an injury substitute. Brevis said that the way he played in Darwin was his 'natural' style of batting. 'I've hit thousands of balls and I just want to go out there, enjoy it and have fun and just watch it and then if it's there, it happens. I don't try to do it, I'm just trying to be myself and have fun and watch the ball and then it happens,' he said. Brevis, however, said that he decided to be himself and stick to his way of batting only about eight months ag0. 'I believe God blessed me with a talent to play like that, to play aggressively. Last year, on 28 December, I made that commitment. I got a few people, they know who they are, who I trust and the main thing was just to be the original Dewald and to be on that side of it and every ball, wherever it is, to watch it and to hit it,' he said.
