Patna: Congress organised a 'halla-bol' march in Patna on Monday to demand justice for the 11-year-old Muzaffarpur dalit girl, who was raped and brutally assaulted on May 26 and died at the PMCH during treatment on Sunday morning.
The accused, who was arrested, had partially slit her throat and stabbed the girl multiple times after rape. Her vocal cords were badly damaged.
Congress has alleged negligence in her treatment and said she was referred from the SKMCH on Saturday to the PMCH where the poor girl struggling for life was kept waiting in the ambulance and taken to different wards for almost 4 hours before she was provided a bed. Her uncle also alleged gross negligence and delay on the part of the PMCH doctors.
However, the PMCH administration refuted all the allegations.
The Congress men, led by state party president Rajesh Kumar, Youth Congress national president Uday Bhanu Chib and AICC in charge of state Congress Krishna Allavaru, started the march from Sadaquat Ashram to CM house before the police stopped them near Rajapur Pul and detained some of the leaders when they tried to jump the barricades. Those detained included Chib and Bihar Youth Congress state president Shiv Prakash Garibdas.

There was a scuffle between the Congress leaders and the police. The Congress leaders blamed the state govt and the administration for the death of the girl and demanded justice to the bereaved family and the resignation of health minister Mangal Pandey.
"Agar ye sarkar nahi mani to hum int se int baja denge…Jab jab Nitish darte hain to police ko aage karte hain," Rajesh said when the police stopped them from moving forward.
Chib alleged that dalit women are being exploited during the Nitish Kumar rule, while the double engine govt has no control over crime or corruption. He also said the "irresponsible" Nitish-BJP govt pushed a minor dalit rape victim towards death due to govt mismanagement.
RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav also attacked the state govt and said all the NDA people were busy only in holding political meetings. "Everyone is busy with elections.
No one in the govt is ready to share the pain of the people of Bihar or get them justice," he said.
Rajesh slammed the BJP for criticising Congress for raising questions and calling it politics.
BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal had said there should be no politics on such issues and "strict action will be taken against the culprits. This is a very sad incident, Congress should not do politics on this".

Kamal Haasan's 'Thug Life' falls short of 'Indian 2' premiere day advance bookings in the USA
Kamal Haasan's 'Thug Life,' directed by Mani Ratnam, is set for a strong U.S. debut, earning $454,000 in advance sales. However, it trails Haasan's 'Indian 2,' which has already grossed $580,431, becoming his biggest North American premiere. 'Thug Life' faces controversy in Karnataka, with its release postponed due to Haasan's remarks on Kannada's origin. Kamal Haasan 's much-anticipated gangster drama Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam , is poised for a solid debut in the United States, though it has fallen short of matching the premiere day advance booking numbers of Haasan's upcoming film Indian 2. Advance ticket sales for Thug Life's U.S. premiere have reached US $454,000 across 375 locations, covering over 1000 shows and selling more than 17,000 tickets. Industry analysts are projecting that the film's total North American premiere day earnings could go up to US $ 800,000 positioning it as Haasan's second-biggest premiere day opening in the region.. However, when compared to the advance sales of Indian 2, which is set to release last year, Thug Life trails notably. Indian 2 has already clocked $580,431 in advance sales across 484 locations, with 1,457 shows and 27,935 tickets sold for its U.S. premiere. This makes Indian 2 Haasan's biggest premiere day in North America so far — even before its 2 being a sequel to Kamal Haasan's 1996 hit film Indian- the buzz for the film was much more as compared to Thug Life. Thug Life marks a major reunion between Kamal Haasan and legendary director Mani Ratnam after their iconic 1987 collaboration Nayakan. The film features a stellar ensemble cast including Silambarasan TR , Trisha Krishnan , Joju George , and Ali Fazal , with music composed by A.R. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Are you 18-79 with no funeral insurance? Back home, however, Thug Life has run into controversy. The film's release in Karnataka has been postponed following backlash against Haasan's recent remarks claiming Kannada originated from Tamil. The statement drew sharp criticism from the Kannada-speaking community and the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), which demanded an apology and threatened to block the film's release in the state. Haasan stood by his comments, refusing to apologize, asserting they were misinterpreted. Following escalating tensions, the decision was made to indefinitely postpone Thug Life's release in Karnataka. The Karnataka High Court also weighed in, advising Haasan to apologize to the Kannada community. Despite the controversy, Thug Life continues to generate substantial international interest. The film's strong U.S. advance bookings reaffirm Kamal Haasan's enduring global appeal, though it now has a new bar to beat with Indian 2 already setting an impressive record ahead of its premiere. Why A Mega Dalit Outreach Is Part Of BJP's Plan For Poll-Bound Bihar From June 20
Last Updated: Caste arithmetic and an unfavourable result in the elections last year have prompted the party to take steps to win the poll battle The BJP has decided to go all out to woo Dalits of poll-bound Bihar, even before seat-sharing talks have begun among the NDA constituents for the upcoming election. Starting June 20, the party will target the Ravidas community by organising the Sant Shiromani Ravidas Sammelan-cum-honour ceremony in Bihar. Sant Ravidas, a 15th-century Bhakti saint, is a significant figure in the Dalit community and is widely recognised as a Dalit icon. Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated Ravidas' 647th birth anniversary in his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi. Now, with Bihar election around the corner, BJP has decided to hold such conclaves in different districts and created a schedule for that. News18 has learnt that BJP has fixed conclave dates for Begusarai on June 20, Samastipur on June 22, Madhubani on June 25, Bagaha and Bhagalpur on June 29, Saharsa on June 30, Muzaffarpur and Siwan on July 6, Darbhanga on July 7, Gaya on July 13, Banka on July 16, Arwal on July 18, Khagaria and Sitamarhi on July 20 and Gopalganj on July 31, which will be the season finale. There will also be a special conclave through which Dalit outreach efforts will be made in Bihar's capital Patna though the date for it is not yet finalised. The party wants the Patna conclave to be a show-stopper with big names in attendance, and hence, the date will depend on their availability, say BJP sources. But why the focus on Dalits? Sources in the know suggest there are two reasons behind it. One is pure caste arithmetic. Though the Ravidas community constitutes just 5 per cent of Bihar's voters, if the total Dalit pie in Bihar is taken into consideration, the number jumps to 19 per cent. While BJP is confident about upper castes and OBC support of a few, JDU too brings OBC strengths. Even NDA's smaller allies like Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader Upendra Kushwaha can influence OBC votes. Only former Bihar CM Jitin Ram Majhi's Hindustan Awam Morcha-Secular(HAM-S) and LJP (RV) Chirag Paswan have limited sway over those known as the backwards. The second reason stems from an unfavourable experience in last year's Lok Sabha election when the BJP-led NDA lost nine Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, NDA won 39 seats while in 2024, it managed to win 30. In neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, the situation was even more grim. The BJP-led NDA lost a whopping 28 seats. Later, BJP went on record to accept that Congress managed to twist BJP's '400 paar' campaign slogan as fear mongering among Dalit voters, suggesting their reservation rights are on the line. This worked against the BJP in the two Hindi heartland states. Since June 4 last year, when the results were declared, BJP has taken corrective measures to win the narrative war. However, the party feels that with no big alliance partner that has a solid grip among the Dalit community, the outreach is the best way forward. Sources in the BJP say the plan to carpet-bomb the Ravidas Sammelans was conceived in mid-May when Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Bihar Police stopped him on his way to Ambedkar hostel in Darbhanga, adding that 'they could not stop me because your power (minority community) is watching over me". Back then, Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal had hit out at Gandhi, saying: 'He should use his mind. If he had to use a government building or hostel, he should have sent an official itinerary. He is the Leader of Opposition and a state president of a party has to teach this?" However, it is learnt that this visit may have worked as a catalyst for the state BJP to pre-emptively launch a mega Dalit outreach, having learnt its lessons last year.
