Gill and Rahul achieve rare milestone
Their efforts not only kept India's hopes of saving the match alive but also helped them achieve a rare milestone in Indian cricket history. Both Gill and Rahul have now crossed 500 runs each in this Test series, becoming the first pair of Indian batters to achieve this feat in a single series in 55 years.
Sunil Gavaskar (774 runs) and Dilip Sardesai (648 runs) last achieved the landmark during India's historic tour of the West Indies in 1971. Before that, Vijay Hazare (543) and Rusi Modi (560) did it against the West Indies in 1948. Rahul and Gill are the latest to join the list as they became the top two scorers in the ongoing series.
Gill has scored 697 runs in 8 innings at an average of 99.57, including two centuries and a double ton. Rahul, on the other hand, has 508 runs under his belt in 8 innings at an average of 72.57. He also has one century to his name in the series so far.

On the other side, England will be aiming to break this partnership early and push for victory on the final day. Abhimanyu Easwaran To Make Debut Against WI? Batter Reveals Chat With Gautam Gambhir
Last Updated: Easwaran has scored 7841 runs in 103 first-class matches played so far, but he is still waiting for his first chance to play a match for India. Abhimanyu Easwaran was part of India's Test squad for the five-match series against Australia in the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and he also travelled with the Indian team for the five-match series against England as well, but he didn't get a chance to play any match. The 29-year-old right-handed batter from Bengal, who has 7841 runs to his name in 103 first-class matches played so far, was expecting a chance against England in the fifth and final Test of the recently concluded series but was ignored by Indian team management, which instead included Karun Nair again after dropping him to the bench for the fourth red-ball match in Manchester. The snub for the fifth Test 'pissed off" Easwaran, his father Ranganathan Parameshwaran Easwaran revealed in a conversation with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel. 'My son will fly to Bengaluru to prepare for the Duleep Trophy. He'll spend 10-12 days there, return to Dehradun for a few days, and then head back. He was disturbed after not being picked for the fifth Test—he was expecting that call. I told him, 'Son, you have lived your dream.' He replied, 'I understand. I've lived my dream for 23 years, and not getting picked for one or two matches won't shatter that.'" 'He was pissed off because he wasn't picked. When I called him, he said, 'Dad, I still haven't found a place.'" Ranganathan said his son was disappointed after not getting a chance in England, but head coach Gautam Gambhir has assured him that he will get an opportunity in the future. 'Gautam Gambhir, when he spoke to my son, assured him, 'See, you're doing the right kind of things; you'll get your turn; you'll get a long run. 'I'm not the one who will push you out after one or two matches. I'll give you a long rope.' That's what my son communicated to me. The entire coaching team assured him that he'll get his due; he'll get his long run. That's the best I can say. My son has been waiting for 4 years. He's put in 23 years of hard work," Ranganathan added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
