2026 Genesis GV90: Flagship electric SUV spied

The Advertiser20-05-2025
The Genesis GV90, the luxury brand's upcoming flagship crossover, has been spotted doing some hot laps around the Nurburgring.
Although the prototype is clad head to toe in camouflage, we can clearly see the overall design is based heavily on the Neolun concept (pictured at the bottom), which was revealed at the 2024 New York motor show.
Practically the only gaps in the camouflage are for small slits at both ends of the car. Out of these peek the brand's signature twin-line lighting elements.

At the front, the bottom line of lights seem to dip as it approaches the middle of the car, creating a V-shaped faux grille display. Along the side the upper line traces the lower edge of the clamshell bonnet all the way to rear of the front fender.
While the concept had reverse-hinged rear doors and a B-pillar-free design for easy ingress and egress, the production car sticks with a traditional door layout.
The rear doors are significantly larger than those at the front, which when combined the long rear overhang hints at the car's size.
Although the concept had seating for just four people, the production car will likely be offered with three rows of seats.
Given the rise in popularity of luxury four-seat people movers, such as the Lexus LM and Buick GL8 Century, we certainly can't rule out the possibility of a four-seat version — it would certainly give the car more differentiation from its platform-mates, as well as external competitors, such as the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
The GV90 is thought to ride on Hyundai's all-electric E-GMP architecture, making it a relative of the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9. Both the Ioniq 9 and EV9 measure a smidge over five metres in length, and ride on a wheelbase around 3.1m long.
The top-spec Ioniq 9 has dual-motor all-wheel drive layout making a total of 320kW and 700Nm, and is capable of ripping through the 0-100km/h standard in 5.2 seconds. Battery capacity currently maxes out at 110kWh, while charging speeds up to 350kW are supported.
Obviously there's no word yet on pricing for the GV90, but it would be above both the Kia and Hyundai. The EV9 currently tops out at around $110,000, and the Ioniq 9 is expected go beyond that as it has a larger battery pack.
The production version of the GV90 was initially set to be launched at the end of 2025, but the latest rumours indicate the car has been delayed slightly.

Mercedes-Benz EVs discounted by up to almost $70,000

It's no secret Mercedes-Benz's family of Electric Vehicle Architecture-based models – the EQE, EQE SUV, EQS and EQS SUV – have failed to fire. Now, Mercedes-Benz is offering huge discounts across the range of curvaceous large and extra-large sedans and SUVs with savings of between $23,814 and $69,839 based on a Victorian postcode. The company has over 100 new vehicles listed in stock across these four model lines on its website, and a look at in-stock vehicles reveals the largest discounts can be had on the Mercedes-AMG EQE53 sedan and Mercedes-Benz EQS450 limousine. CarExpert can save you thousands on a new Mercedes-Benz. Click here to get a great deal. The smallest discounts are actually on the most expensive member of this EVA-based lineup, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS680. Here's a breakdown of what's currently on offer, as of the morning of August 13, with pricing based on a private buyer with a Victorian postcode. EQE300 SUV 12 vehicles in stock Drive-away prices of $106,501 to $106,804 Savings of $24,735 to $27,956 EQE300 sedan 1 vehicle in stock Drive-away price of $106,409 Saving of $23,814 EQE350 SUV 2 vehicles in stock Drive-away price of $107,246 Saving of $32,623 AMG EQE53 SUV 37 vehicles in stock Drive-away prices of $123,417 to $136,825 Savings of $52,912 to $56,828 AMG EQE53 4 vehicles in stock Drive-away prices of $134,551 to $142,239 Savings of $66,677 to $69,839 EQS450 3 vehicles in stock Drive-away prices of $128,719 to $133,893 Savings of $64,278 to $66,405 EQS450 SUV 36 vehicles in stock Drive-away prices of $126,927 to $140,128 Savings of $53,405 to $57,970 Maybach EQS680 12 vehicles in stock Drive-away prices of $333,457 to $419,211 Savings of $8786 to $9273 Of this quartet, the EQE SUV is by far the most popular. Mercedes-Benz has delivered 594 this year to the end of July, up 5.7 per cent on the same period last year. It's followed by the EQE (90, down 13.5 per cent), the EQS SUV (22, down 72.2 per cent) and the EQS (2, down 66.7 per cent). Mercedes-Benz removed the ability to configure a new EQE and EQS from its website last year, and while the model pages for these vehicles are still active, they stopped appearing in the vehicle range menu in March – something which the company has blamed on a technical issue. Now, the EQE SUV and EQS SUV can no longer be configured via the website. The EQE and EQS entered production in 2021, with their SUV counterparts following in 2022. All received styling dramatically different from equivalent combustion-powered Mercedes-Benz models, with more curvaceous – some would say blobby – styling. Responding to criticism, Mercedes-Benz gave the EQS a facelift in Europe, bringing a more conventional grille, but this has yet to be confirmed for our market. Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz paused deliveries of all EVA-based models in the US due to slow sales. The German automaker has said it's moving to a 'coherent design language' across its portfolio, and is also ditching separate EQ nameplates.

Next Chevrolet Camaro could be an EV SUV to take on Mustang Mach-E

The next car to bear the Chevrolet Camaro name could an electric SUV designed to go head-to-head with the Ford Mustang Mach-E. According to a Motor Trend, Chevrolet will launch a new 'coupe SUV' to take on the Mustang Mach-E, and it could well be known as the Camaro EV. If this report proves to be true, the Camaro will be going full circle. The original Camaro went into production in 1966, and was designed to be a competitor to the Ford Mustang, which launched in 1964 and was an instant sales success. The Mustang Mach-E went into production in 2021, and so far has no direct GM competitor. With traditional body styles increasingly being shunned by buyers in favour SUVs, more and more historic nameplates are making the transition to high-riding vehicles, including the formerly sporty Mitsubishi Eclipse. A few weeks back GM's CEO Mark Reuss told Detroit News, the Camaro would only return if it could had the 'formula of beauty, and a little bit of functionality and fun'. CarExpert can save you thousands on a new car. Click here to get a great deal. Supplied Credit: CarExpert The new Camaro EV will likely be based on the BEV3 architecture that underpins the Chevrolet Equinox EV and the slightly larger Blazer EV, as well as the Cadillac Lyriq, Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX. It's likely regular versions will share drivetrains with its Chevy platform mates, while high performance models could use motors from elsewhere. A variety of drivetrains are available in the Blazer: 164kW/329Nm single-motor front-wheel drive, 224kW/481Nm dual-motor all-wheel drive, and 272kW/440Nm single-motor rear-wheel drive. There's also the top-spec Blazer EV SS (above), which has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system making 459kW and 881Nm, and capable of completing the 0-60mph (0-97km/h) dash in 3.0s. Two batteries are available in the Blazer EV: a 85kWh option with up to 500km of EPA range, and a larger 102kWh unit with up to 537km of range. Supplied Credit: CarExpert Unlike the Mustang, which has remained in production since its debut in the 1960s, the Camaro name has been rested a few times. The first pause came in 2002, and ended in 2009 when the fifth generation car debuted on the Holden Commodore platform. Production of the sixth-generation Camaro ended in December 2023, with the company promising 'this is not the final chapter for nameplate'.
