Nissan Formula E Team secures pole position and double points finish in Miami
Petromin Corporation, through its e-mobility subsidiary Electromin, proudly celebrates its ongoing partnership with Nissan Formula E Team following a thrilling Round 5 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Miami.
The weekend marked a significant milestone for the team, as driver Norman Nato secured Nissan's first pole position of the season and crossed the finish line first, an impressive feat, despite a post-race penalty that affected the final standings.
This collaboration showcases Petromin's commitment to advancing sustainable mobility and pioneering electric vehicle innovation on a global stage. Nissan Formula E Team put up a determined fight, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in one of the most competitive races of the season.
Despite missing a podium finish, Norman Nato, Oliver Rowland and the team delivered a commendable performance, gaining crucial points and valuable insights for the championship ahead.
In qualifying, Norman Nato progressed through the duels and delivered an impressive performance in the final, securing his first-ever Julius Baer Pole Position trophy with a standout lap. Meanwhile, teammate Oliver Rowland narrowly missed out on a top four spot in a highly competitive Group A session, placing him 16th on the starting grid.
As the race got underway in the Sunshine State, Nato maintained his lead off the line and consistently fought within the top five. Rowland, meanwhile, focused on energy management while steadily making his way through the pack. A red flag on Lap 22 saw Nato in P6 and Rowland in P11, both with six minutes of Attack Mode remaining. At the restart, they immediately deployed the extra 50kW, with Nato crossing the line first and Rowland in fourth.
However, due to the timing of the red flag, neither driver completed their Attack Mode, resulting in post-race 10-second penalties. Nato was classified sixth, Rowland tenth — still securing a valuable double points finish for the team.
'We were so close to turning around a bad qualifying during the race as we crossed the line in fourth,' said Rowland. 'We got unlucky — sometimes these things happen in motor racing. It's now about getting ready for a busy upcoming period and aiming to set the weekend up with a better qualifying performance in Monaco.'
Norman Nato said, 'It's great to take my maiden Formula E pole position and a solid haul of points. It could've been even better without the penalty, but finishing P6 despite it shows we were strong. I felt comfortable in the car and was pleased to record the quickest time in qualifying. The ten-second penalty after the race feels like it's summed up my season, just being on the wrong side of key moments. Taking pole and sixth is still a solid result to build on in Monaco.'

MONACO: Lando Norris shrugged off his gremlins and revived his world championship bid on Saturday when he became the fastest driver in the history of the Monaco Grand Prix to claim pole position for Sunday's classic race. It was the first time any driver had lapped the sinuous barrier-lined Mediterranean street circuit in less than 70 seconds and came only seconds after Leclerc had appeared to have secured his fourth Monaco pole position. For Norris it was his first Monaco pole, his second this year and the 11th of his career — and a critical advantage for the slowest and shortest circuit of the season where only 10 drivers have won from lower than third on the grid since 1950. While a disappointed Leclerc lamented traffic that hampered his first flying run, affecting his overall rhythm, Norris was buoyant after ending a dismal run in qualifying and falling 13 points behind McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri in the drivers' title race. 'The team has done a fantastic job so thank you to everyone here and back at the factory,' he said. 'These days don't come easy and I am proud to give something back to them. 'It's been a long time coming. I feel good and I don't think you realize how good this feels with quite a few struggles over the last couple of months, especially here in Monaco. It's a beautiful place and the hardest track probably to do it. 'Up against the home-town hero (Leclerc), I'm very proud of the whole team so I am pleased after all the hard work in the last few months.' Norris's McLaren team-mate and championship leader Oscar Piastri was third ahead of seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton in the second Ferrari, four-time champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull and remarkable rookie Isack Hadjar of RB. Norris agreed that his mentality had been a key part of his success after admitting to self-doubts in recent weeks. 'Honestly, that's the tricky part and to consistently find a lap time because you know it's what the others are going to be doing and improving more and more. 'You've got to take a similar amount of risks, but when you get to Q3, the final lap is just about who can risk a little bit more and commit a little bit more. 'It was a nice and well put together lap and it feels very good when you cross the line and you know it's all paid off.' He said he had not considered the mandatory two pit-stops strategy required on Sunday. 'Honestly, at the minute, I have no idea. I'm going to enjoy today and I've worked hard for today. I'm happy with qualifying and I'm going to live the moment a little bit and then I will focus on tomorrow.' Team-mate Piastri, who leads him by 13 points after seven of this year's 24 races, admitted he had endured a messy two days of practice and qualifying. 'I think I've hit more walls this weekend than I have in my whole career so it's been untidy. I've been struggling to get into the groove a little bit and I think in qualifying I was much happier with things and I felt pretty good. 'We've been doing some digging this weekend and to come out with this result is a decent effort.' He added: 'We're in good positions, but it's still going to be an exciting race tomorrow with the two-stop so let's see what happens.' Quartararo Breaks Lap Record on Home Soil to Take French GP Pole
Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo smashed the lap record in front of a sellout crowd at Le Mans on Saturday as the Frenchman snatched pole position from Ducati's Marc Marquez for the French Grand Prix. Having broken the lap record at the circuit in Friday's practice, Marquez went even faster early in the second qualifying session to set the tone for Q2. Quartararo, however, managed to complete one more lap to clock one minute 29.324 seconds as the home crowd erupted and sang "La Marseillaise", the country's national anthem, even as the Frenchman urged them to calm down. "It was amazing to get this pole position, thanks to all the fans supporting us. It's a really important pole position but we need to get the points later and on Sunday," Quartararo said. It also marked the first time since his championship-winning season in 2021 that he had clinched back-to-back pole positions having gone fastest at the Spanish Grand Prix. "Fabio rode in an incredible way, he deserves this pole position in front of his fans. He was doing a superb job in Jerez (at the Spanish Grand Prix) too," Marquez said. "But I'm happy with my pace and starting on the front row was my main target." World championship leader Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing was third fastest and his team mate Fermin Aldeguer will start on the second row alongside KTM Tech3's Maverick Vinales and Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia.
