Netflix is about to lose this Adam Sandler comedy movie at the worst time possible — here's your last day to stream 'Happy Gilmore'
Almost 30 years on from the original's release, Netflix is about to drop a sequel to Adam Sandler's comedy favorite, "Happy Gilmore."
Yes, everyone's fave unorthodox golfer entered the Tour Championship way back in 1996, but he's coming out of retirement on July 25 for the streaming service's legacy sequel, "Happy Gilmore 2."
Anticipation is building, as fans have sent Happy's original outing to the top 10 on Netflix. So, with hype there, and the impending sequel, now feels like it'd be a pretty bad time for Netflix to lose the original "Happy Gilmore" movie, right?
Well, unfortunately, that's exactly what's about to happen. Thanks to a warning that's flagged on the movie's listing page, we know that "Happy Gilmore" is leaving Netflix soon. If you're planning your viewing, your last day to stream "Happy Gilmore" on Netflix U.S. is Thursday, July 31.
That's just a handful of days after the sequel drops, so if you want to stream both films back to back, you'll only have a very small window to do so on Netflix.
And if you haven't seen the original Sandler comedy before, here's a little more info about the film to help you decide whether to bump it up your watchlist or not.
What is 'Happy Gilmore' about?
Dennis Dugan's sports comedy "Happy Gilmore" follows Adam Sandler's titular dreamer. Happy hopes to become an ice hockey player, but even though he's developed a powerful slapshot, his temper and ice skating skills prevent him from making it big.
When he discovers that his grandmother owes the IRS a lot of money and is at risk of losing her home, Happy discovers that his slapshot could be put to use in an entirely different sport altogether: golf.
Mentored by Chubbs Peterson (Carl Weathers), Happy sets out to dominate the sporting world to try and earn enough money to pay off his grandmother's debts.
In addition to Sandler and Weathers, "Happy Gilmore" also stars Christopher McDonald as Happy's rival, Shooter McGavin, Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit, Frances Bay as Happy's grandmother, plus Ben Stiller, Will Sasso, Bob Barker, Allen Covert, Richard Kiel, and more.
Should you stream 'Happy Gilmore' before it leaves Netflix?
Reviews for "Happy Gilmore" are somewhat divided. At the time of writing, the movie holds a 63% critics' score on the review aggregate platform, Rotten Tomatoes.
The site's consensus reads: "Those who enjoy Adam Sandler's schtick will find plenty to love in this gleefully juvenile take on professional golf; those who don't, however, will find it unfunny and forgettable."
Reviewing for Empire, Darren Bignell gave the movie a 3-star rating, writing: "Sandler becomes more personable as the film progresses, and there's a couple of truly side-splitting scenes. And there's a nice edge to the McEnroe-style histrionics because, at the end of the day, it's exactly what most spectators would really love to see on the fairway."
The Washington Post's Richard Harrington, meanwhile, said at the time: "'Happy Gilmore' may not be an ace in the hole, but it beats par by a long shot."
Roger Ebert, however, wasn't so fond of Sandler's comedy. "Happy Gilmore" earned a 1.5-star rating from the critic, who said: "'Happy Gilmore' tells the story of a violent sociopath. Since it's about golf, that makes it a comedy," and argued it was "the latest in the dumber and dumbest sweepstakes" at the time..
Admittedly, it's been a long time since I revisited "Happy Gilmore" myself, but I do remember getting a few laughs at Happy's antics. It's not my favorite comedy by any stretch, but I'm sure there's still some laughs to be had, if you can get a kick out of Happy's explosive temper (and you don't mind all the brand-name dropping).
The fan score is significantly higher, currently sitting at 85% (based on over 250,000 ratings). Take a quick scroll through audience reactions logged on the site, and you'll see a wide range of scores, from plenty of 5-star reviews and fans labelling it a "classic" (even if there are some less-than-stellar reactions, too).
All told, if you're convinced by the audience reactions, you know you like Sandler's brand of comedy and/or you're excited for the sequel, then you probably have your answer: yes, you should stream "Happy Gilmore" on Netflix before it disappears.

2025 AL MVP odds: Cal Raleigh is new betting favorite to win the award, ahead of Aaron Judge
Early in the Major League Baseball season, it seemed the American League MVP award was all but wrapped up. New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge — the reigning AL MVP award winner — was flirting with hitting .400 and one bettor had even wagered $2,000 at 175-1 odds at BetMGM that he would accomplish the feat. Even if that was highly unlikely, Judge was still as high as a -10000 favorite to win the AL MVP at BetMGM in early June, which equates to roughly a 99% implied probability. But as Judge cooled off (relatively), Seattle Mariners Cal Raleigh caught fire and now leads the majors with 41 home runs. Raleigh is second in RBIs (86, one ahead of Judge) and thanks to Judge's flexor strain that landed him on the 10-day IL, Raleigh has improbably become the new favorite to win the AL MVP award at BetMGM, with -135 odds to Judge's +105. Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal (40-1) has the next-best odds. Back in June, when Judge was -10000, Raleigh had 35-1 odds to win the award, or roughly a 3% chance. Due to those long-shot odds, some liability on Raleigh winning the AL MVP has piled up at BetMGM at the sportsbook. "It wouldn't be pretty for us," Halvor Egeland, trading strategy manager at BetMGM, said via text message on the prospects of Raleigh winning MVP. "Cal has a pretty decent liability with us. In the beginning of June, he was 50-1, so there was a good amount of time for bettors to get a nice big number on him." While there aren't any singular wagers with massive liability at BetMGM, small bets at big prices, including a few $100 wagers at big odds per Egeland, add up quickly. It will be a fascinating race to watch the rest of the season, especially if Judge can get back on the field soon.

Lo Bosworth Natale Is Married and Expecting Her First Baby with Husband Dom Natale (Exclusive)
'The Hills' and 'Laguna Beach' alum, who is 4 months pregnant, tied the knot with Natale in an 'intimate wedding' at her parents home on July 20 Lo Bosworth is married and has a baby on the way! The Hills and Laguna Beach alum, 38, tied the knot with investor Dom Natale at the bride's family's home in Laguna Beach on Sunday, July 20. The newlyweds are expecting their first child together, they exclusively reveal to PEOPLE. "We wanted our wedding to meet the moment of where we're at right now," Bosworth tells PEOPLE. "I'm about four months pregnant, and before starting our fertility journey we thought about a big, New York City wedding. Once our family plans got underway however, we changed course to something we knew would be perfect if I was lucky enough to get pregnant: an intimate wedding with our closest family members enjoyed at home. We could take off our shoes, stretch out, enjoy great food and the beautiful decor and relax." The intimate ceremony was attended by 28 of the couple's closest friends and family members. "Getting married at home in Laguna felt right for us — inviting, calming, and full of love," Bosworth shares. "We've both been in NYC for about 15 years and for me, going home to Laguna to get married feels very full-circle." Although the wedding was small, it was everything Bosworth and Natale envisioned. "We wanted an understated, but colorful luncheon that felt inviting instead of stuffy. When your reception is in your backyard and you invite guests to jump in the pool, you need to be laid back about it all," the expectant mother says. "Gorgeous florals" were a non-negotiable for the couple's celebration. Gary Samuelian executed the striped design and stunning arrangements "perfectly." Adding "just the right touch of fun" was a mix-and-match of colorful china, drinkware and florals "in unexpected places." "Even though we celebrated our luncheon in my parent's backyard, we knew it should still feel elevated, unique, and special," Bosworth says. Cassandra Katz of Cassandra Bette Events also made planning the big day "so easy" for Bosworth and Natale. "Hosting at home can present a unique set of challenges, and one of my big concerns was leaving very little for my parents to manage once the wedding was over," Bosworth says. "We pulled it off with a great team and help." As they exchanged traditional vows, Bosworth wore a wedding dress designed and tailored by Hailey Desjardins. She was styled by Thomas Carter Philips, and did her hair and makeup herself. Meanwhile, Natale opted for a Brunello Cucinelli suit. "When we set our date in July, we didn't know if our planned IVF cycle would be successful. I bought a dress (or two) early on in the hopes one would still work if we got lucky," Bosworth says. "Three weeks before my wedding, nothing fit and I put into a call to my stylist friend, Thomas Carter Phillips, who works with an incredibly talented tailor, Hailey Desjardins, to build me a dress from scratch." She continues: "At that point, I was more than three months pregnant, had gained weight from the transfer medications and was starting to show. We decided a classic look that accentuated my bump would be best. My finished dress got delivered at 8 p.m. the night before I left for our wedding, and I could not be more grateful to Tommy and Hailey for saving me in one the most extreme pinches of my life." After Bosworth and Natale said "I do," they shared their first dance to Aretha Franklin's 'Kissin' by the Mistletoe." Despite the wedding taking place in the summer, Bosworth wanted to surprise the Natale family with the 1962 winter song because their surname means Christmas in Italian. Plus, she and Natale met during the holidays "a few years ago." For dinner, guests enjoyed Mexican food served family style. For dessert were slices of five wedding cakes: lemon poppyseed, brown sugar cheesecake, flourless chocolate, carrot, and hummingbird.
