UP police bust Rs 2 crore fake supplement racket in Muzaffarnagar
Agra: Uttar Pradesh police on Tuesday uncovered a major fake health supplements manufacturing racket and arrested two persons involved in Muzaffarnagar. Goods worth Rs 2 crore have been seized. Acting on a tip-off, police raided a factory in the Khalaapar area and seized large quantities of counterfeit health products of prominent brands. The haul included lakhs of fake protein and omega-3 capsules, raw liquid materials, and forged packaging labeled "Made in USA," "Japan," and "Russia." SP (City), Satyanarayan Prajapat, said, "Khalaapar police station received inputs regarding a factory manufacturing fake health supplements. A special team was formed with officials from the food safety and drug department. We conducted a raid and arrested two persons. They confessed to procuring raw materials from different sources, processing them into various compositions, packaging them under different brand names, and then supplying them to the market. " Two accused, Asif Saifi and Javed Saifi, both in their early 40s and residents, were arrested. Both had previously operated a similar factory and now face additional charges under the Gangster Act. Their fake license, issued in 2023, did not cover the production of these supplements, which violated food safety regulations. The packaging was locally printed, and falsely marketed as foreign-made—a clear case of forgery and cheating. On this basis, a case has been registered under relevant BNS sections at Khalaapar. The seized samples will be presented before the court, and the accused will be sent to jail. Police teams have been deployed to nab the remaining members of the network. Authorities are now investigating the supply chain to determine how far the counterfeit goods have infiltrated the market. The products, mostly supplied to gyms and sold to unsuspecting youths, pose serious health risks. The food safety department is preparing a detailed report. Authorities have urged consumers to get tested and report any health issues. This crackdown is part of a broader campaign across Saharanpur Range targeting fake supplements and illegal substances. The factory has been sealed, and further arrests are expected. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
