Partition Horrors Remembrance Day observed by ABVP in Kerala college, leads to clashes with SFI

Kasaragod (Kerala), Aug 14 (PTI) The Kerala governor's directive to universities in the state to observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14 led the RSS-affiliated student wing ABVP to mark the occasion at a college here on Thursday, triggering clashes with the CPI(M)-backed SFI.
The police intervened to stop the fight between the two groups.
The SFI also burned an effigy of Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar outside the college campus.
Arlekar had recently issued a circular for the observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in state universities on August 14 on the instructions from the Union Home Ministry, according to the Raj Bhavan.
The Governor, as Chancellor of universities in the state, had issued the directive to the vice chancellors to organise seminars to commemorate the day and to forward the action plans regarding this.
Opposing the directive, the Left government had made it clear that such programmes need not be held in the universities.
The Congress-led UDF opposition had said it would not allow any such programme to be implemented in the state.
Both the Left and the UDF had alleged that the governor's directive was an attempt to divide the people and the nation. PTI HMP HMP KH

LOP Singhar said: "Our pride is our tricolor. This struggle against the conspiracy of vote-theft in the country is not just for votes, but to save the soul of the country." Patwari said: "Today, by participating in Vote Satyagraha Tiranga Yatra in Gwalior, we have raised our voice for democratic justice and constitutional rights. Those responsible for vote theft will be brought to the dock. The provision of 'one person, one vote' is necessary for a healthy and prosperous democracy, but the BJP has committed the organised crime of vote theft by insulting democracy." He argued that the Vote Satyagraha Tiranga Yatra is being organised to give a clear message from Gwalior that the Congress party will continue to struggle on every front to protect democracy and maintain the sanctity of voting rights. Former Manipur CM Biren leads Tiranga Yatra in Imphal
Imphal: Ahead of 79th Independence Day celebrations, former Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh , along with BJP state unit president A Sharda Devi, on Thursday led a Tiranga Yatra as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign at Luwangshangbam in Imphal East. New York/Washington, Aug 14 (PTI) US President Donald Trump on Thursday again repeated his claim that he solved the conflict between India and Pakistan and said that the war could have turned nuclear. 'If you look at Pakistan and India… planes were being knocked out of the air. Six or seven planes came down. They were ready to go, maybe nuclear. We solved that," Trump said during remarks in the Oval Office. The US president's comments come on the eve of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday as he tries to bring an end to the Ukraine war. Trump said he had thought the Russia-Ukraine war would have been the 'easiest one" to end but 'it's actually the most difficult". 'I think that President Putin would like to see a deal. I think if I weren't president, he would take over all of Ukraine. It's a war that should have never happened. If I weren't president, in my opinion, he would much rather take over all of Ukraine. But I am president and he's not going to mess around with me," Trump said. 'I think it's going to be a good meeting," Trump said of his upcoming meeting with Putin. He added that 'the more important meeting" will be the second meeting with Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and himself. Trump said there may also be some European leaders for that meeting. 'We're going to see what happens. And I think President Putin will make peace. I think President Zelenskyy will make peace.
