Jerry Jones says Cowboys are 'a soap opera 365 days a year' in final trailer for Netflix docuseries

Netflix released the final trailer for its Dallas Cowboys docuseries, "America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys" on Monday. As the title implies, team owner Jerry Jones is the center around which the Cowboys' dynasty of the 1990s, winning three Super Bowl championships, revolves. That's been true ever since Jones bought the team in and continues to be true, if not even more so now. "The Dallas Cowboys is a soap opera 365 days a year," Jones says early in the trailer and that certainly applies to the current team with the drama regarding linebacker Micah Parsons, his contract dispute with Jones and the star pass rusher's trade demand. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The eight-episode docuseries also provides an explanation as to why the Cowboys are so prevalent in sports headlines and discussions despite disappointing playoff results that haven't followed through on championship aspirations and not winning the Super Bowl for the past 29 seasons. During the 1990s, Dallas compiled a 101-59 regular-season record with eight playoff appearances, four conference championship games and the aforementioned three Super Bowl titles. Those championship teams yielded three Hall of Famers in quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Emmitt Smith and receiver Michael Irvin. And in the latter half of the decade, the Cowboys added a fourth future Hall of Famer in cornerback Deion Sanders. Twenty-five years later, those players are still a presence in sports media and culture with Irvin and Aikman establishing successful broadcasting careers and Sanders becoming one of the standout personalities in college football. More importantly, the Cowboys are one of professional sports' biggest brands, a American sports team with global popularity along with the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Lakers. Their players, roster moves, successes and failures, and Jones himself are a frequent topic on national sports talk TV and radio, whether they deserve to be or not. The existence of this Netflix docuseries is further proof of that. However, the 1990s Cowboys were certainly the soap opera about which Jones boasts. After buying the team, he fired legendary coach Tom Landry and hired Jimmy Johnson from college football. Johnson revitalized the roster by trading running back Herschel Walker to the Minnesota Vikings for multiple draft picks, including three first-rounders, that provided several impact players. The Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers developed a fierce rivalry. Eventually, tensions grew between Jones and Johnson arguably led to the demise of the franchise's championship prosperity. Irvin and other players were involved in many off-field scandals that made the Cowboys notorious, but also kept them drawing headlines. "America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys" launches on Netflix on Aug. 18.

Easter Eggs and References in the 'One Piece' Season 2 Trailer

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Netflix's live-action adaptation of the ultra-popular One Piece series is set to return to the high seas next year. One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy (Inaki Godoy) on his quest to become king of the pirates and find the One Piece, a legendary yet mysterious treasure left by the former King of Pirates, Gold Roger. He's joined by his crew, stoic swordsman Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu), money-hungry navigator Nami (Emily Rudd), story-weaving sniper Usopp (Jacob Romero Gibson), and flirtatious chef Sanji (Taz Skylar). Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D Luffy Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D Luffy Courtesy of Netflix In celebration of One Piece Day on August 9, Netflix released the first trailer for the highly anticipated second season. The trailer highlights the return of the Straw Hat Crew while teasing new characters, locations, and storylines. Here are some of the Easter eggs and references found in the first trailer for the new season. New Characters One Piece is renowned for its in-depth world-building and wealth of beloved characters, with thousands of pirates, marines, fishmen, and citizens popping up throughout the series' nearly 30-year run. Curiously, the trailer made no mention of fan-favorite character Tony Tony Chopper, an anthropomorphic reindeer and the latest member of the Straw Hat Pirates, but there are still plenty of reveals for fans to enjoy. One Piece is set to be even bigger than the first season, literally. The trailer introduces Brogy (Brendan Murray), a friendly giant hailing from a fabled island of giants, who becomes a key ally to the Straw Hats in the later portions of the anime and manga. One of the most anticipated characters is Captain Smoker (Callum Kerr), a bare-chested marine with a love for smoking two cigars simultaneously. Smoker was first teased at the end of the first season after he spots Luffy's freshly minted bounty poster. Smoker's name isn't solely derived from his bad habit but also his ability to create and control the substance itself. The Marines aren't the only forces out to stop Luffy and the Straw Hat Crew. They will also have to face off against the secret criminal empire, Baroque Works. Baroque Works includes some of the most consequential characters in the entire series, two of whom appeared in the trailer. Ms. All Sunday (Lera Abova), the cowboy-hat-donning, flower-petal-spawning Vice President of Baroque Works, plays a major role in the series going forward. Ms. All Sunday's Hana Hana Fruit rivals Luffy's Gum Gum Fruit in terms of complex visual effects. The trailer also introduces another major player in Baroque Works, Ms. Wednesday (Charithra Chandran). Chandran of Bridgerton fame is set to see an expanded role in the third season, which was also announced to be in production at the end of the trailer. Lera Abova as Ms. All Sunday Lera Abova as Ms. All Sunday Courtesy of Netflix New Locales As a series set on the high seas, One Piece is all about adventure and hunting for treasure. The search for the One Piece takes the Straw Hats to several locations, including several shown in the trailer. The trailer gave viewers a first look at Reverse Mountain, the entrance to the titular Grand Line, a massive ocean route fit for only the toughest sailors. It also shows off Whiskey Peak, the cactus-covered island at the start of the Grand Line. In the source material, Whiskey Peak is where the Straw Hats confront the mysterious Baroque Works squad for the first time. The trailer also brings the crew to Loguetown, home of Captain Smoker and the site of Gold Roger's execution. Loguetown is the final spot in the East Blue before crossing into the Grand Line. Here is where Smoker and the Straw Hats cross paths, the first major encounter for the Straw Hats since Luffy earned his bounty. This fight is the catalyst for one of the longest-running rivalries in the story. The trailer closes with the crew's ship, the Going Merry, running into a massive scarred whale named Laboon. The giant whale is both one of the series' most endearing characters and one of the most interesting locations. One Piece season 2 premieres on Netflix in 2026.
