Andhra govt deposits Rs 7,000 each to 47 lakh farmers under 'Annadatha Sukhibhava' scheme
The Andhra Pradesh government-led by N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday deposited Rs 7,000 each to 47 lakh farmers as part of the 'Annadatha Sukhibhava' scheme, which offers Rs 20,000 financial aid to farmers per annum.
Launching the Rs 3,174 crore statewide initiative, the CM handed over cheque to two farmers as a symbolic gesture and another Rs 29 crore specific to Darsi constituency, according to a video link shared by the government.
Naidu disbursed the first tranche of funds at East Veerayapalem village of Darsi mandal in Prakasam district.
Out of the Rs 7,000 credited to lakhs of farmers today, Rs 5,000 came from the southern state while the remaining Rs 2,000 was offered by the central government as part of the PM-Kisan scheme. Clubbing the Centre's contribution of Rs 6,000 under PM-Kisan and the state's contribution of Rs 14,000, the southern state aims to disburse Rs 20,000 per annum to eligible farmers under 'Annadatha Sukhibhava'- 'PM Kisan' scheme in three installments.
The NDA government in the state has allocated Rs 2,343 crore for the first installment while the Centre provided Rs 831 crore.'Annadatha Sukhibhava' is a poll promise made by Naidu in the run-up to the 2024 polls and is part of the 'Super Six' set of election promises, which assured three free cooking gas cylinders per annum, Rs 15,000 per annum for every school-going child, Rs 1,500 monthly financial aid for women between 19 and 59 years and others.

Komatireddy calls on Nitin Gadkari; gives him wishlist with key demands
Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Tuesday. Amongst several issues discussed included Centre's assistance for the double-decker corridor being constructed from LB Nagar to Hayat Nagar on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway. The meeting focused on accelerating pending approvals and new proposals concerning several National Highway (NH) projects in the state. Accompanied by Telangana MPs and State Special Representative to Delhi AP Jithender Reddy, Minister Venkat Reddy held detailed deliberations with Gadkari, pressing for swift action on a number of critical projects. Among the key issues raised was the expansion of the Hyderabad–Vijayawada NH-65 corridor from four lanes to six lanes, along with construction of service roads. Highlighting the recent fatal accident involving two senior police officers, the Minister expressed concern over the highway's reputation as a 'death road'. Deeply moved, Gadkari assured immediate consideration and promised that a decision on NH-65 expansion would be taken in the upcoming Finance Committee meeting on August 15. On the Regional Ring Road (RRR) front, the Minister informed that land acquisition for the northern segment—Sangareddy to Choutuppal—is complete. He proposed modifying the plan from a 4-lane to a 6-lane highway in view of future demands. Gadkari responded positively and sought revised estimates, assuring fast-tracked tenders and early commencement of works. The Minister also urged simultaneous initiation of works on the southern stretch, given its industrial corridor potential. For the LB Nagar–Malkapur section, the Minister recommended an elevated corridor, especially from Chintalkunta checkpost to All India Radio Station, and proposed a double-decker flyover, citing successful models in Nagpur. Gadkari agreed in principle and requested submission of proposals for prompt approval. Further, on the Hyderabad–Srisailam NH-765 stretch, Komatireddy requested elevated corridor status for the ecologically sensitive tiger reserve area. Gadkari assured approval for alignment changes that would reduce the corridor length by nearly four kilometres. Regarding the Hyderabad–Manneguda highway, the Minister sought early resolution of issues pending with the National Green Tribunal and contractor mobilisation. He also pushed for proposal clearances under Setu Bandhan and CRIF (Central Road Infrastructure Fund). Expressing satisfaction over the meeting, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said Telangana is witnessing rapid progress in road infrastructure due to continued cooperation from the Centre.

In outreach to youth, women, Nitish plays domicile card in jobs before polls
Barely a few months before the Bihar Assembly elections, the Nitish Kumar-led NDA Cabinet on Tuesday cleared the implementation of a domicile policy in mass recruitment of teachers under the Teachers Recruitment Examination (TRE), providing over 85% reservation for it for natives of the state, which will start with the TRE-4 to be held later this year for 1.10 lakh jobs. On July 8, the NDA government had earmarked the existing 35% women reservation in government jobs for native Bihar women. This quota, in force since 2016, had earlier been open to women from other states as well. The government's Tuesday move came a day after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar directed the state education department to amend the rules to prioritise Biharis in the teachers' appointment. In a social media post Monday, Nitish, who is also the JD(U) chief, said: 'We have been constantly working to improve the education system of the state ever since our government was formed in November 2005. Teachers have been appointed in large numbers in order to strengthen the education system….The education department has been directed to amend the relevant rules to give priority to the people of Bihar in the teachers' appointment.' The NDA government's decision, coming on the eve of the Assembly polls, assumes significance as it is aimed at wooing the vast constituencies of youth and women across the state. Even though the Nitish government had first announced a domicile policy in 2020, it was not implemented in any recruitment examinations. The government later reversed its decision, which led to protests in subsequent years by various student associations. The TRE-4 would thus mark first time when native Bihar candidates, including 35% women, would avail benefits of a domicile policy. On the Cabinet's decision, Bihar additional chief secretary S Siddharth told reporters, 'Bihar Cabinet gave its nod to 'Bihar State School Teacher (Appointment, Transfer, Disciplinary Action & Service Conditions) (Amendment) Rules 2025' under which people hailing from Bihar alone will be eligible for appointment as school teachers in the state'. As per these amended rules, students who have passed matriculation (Class 10) and intermediate (Class 12) from Bihar will get priority in the appointment of education department's jobs, both in teaching and non-teaching ones, said Siddharth, adding that the move would enable natives of Bihar to avail of over 85% job quota. This would leave candidates from other states to appear for examination for only 15% of these jobs. About 60,000 teachers hailing from outside Bihar had been appointed through three TREs conducted over the last five years. Jobs have emerged as one of the key issues in the run-up to the Bihar polls, with a large section of youths and students holding protests over the last several months to press for a domicile policy for recruitment in government jobs. RJD leader and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Tejashwi Yadav and Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor have been among the Bihar leaders who have called for a state domicile policy. Tejashwi has even promised 100% reservation across all jobs if the RJD-led Opposition Mahagathbandhan comes to power in the upcoming polls. In his reaction to Nitish's move, he accused the NDA government of 'copying' the Opposition's agenda. Union minister and LJP(RV) chief Chirag Paswan, an NDA ally, has also favoured a domicile policy to give priority to Bihar youths in government jobs. Dilip Kumar, a student leader who led several protests over non-implementation of a domicile policy, said: 'It is a victory of all Bihar students. We always believed in son-of-soil principle. When other states had not opened avenues for us, our government has now done the right thing by rolling out a domicile policy.' Over the last couple of months, the Nitish government has taken various populist measures, which include the hiking of social security pension from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100 per month and the allotment of 125 unit free electricity to all domestic consumers in the state, numbering 1.67 crore families. More sops The Nitish Cabinet Tuesday also raised the honorarium of midday meal scheme cooks from Rs 1,650 to Rs 3,300 per month, benefitting 2,18,622 cooks. The honorarium of 6,000 night watchmen working in secondary and higher secondary schools has been doubled from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. The honorarium of 2,350 physical education and health instructors has been increased from Rs 8,000 to Rs 16,000. The Cabinet also increased the monthly incentives of the ASHA and community health workers from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000. Atchanna warns against delays in fertiliser supply
Vijayawada: Agriculture minister K Atchannaidu on Tuesday directed officials to ensure uninterrupted fertiliser supply to farmers during the ongoing kharif season, warning against any distribution delays. The minister issued the instructions during a teleconference with district collectors and agriculture officials to review statewide fertiliser availability. The review meeting followed reports of urea shortages in certain parts of the state. Atchannaidu stressed that no farmer should face difficulties in procuring fertilisers and ordered officials to closely monitor cooperative societies to prevent irregularities. He acknowledged that while the state government has been pushing for higher fertiliser allocations from the Centre, some media reports have pointed to localized supply gaps, prompting him to seek detailed reports. Addressing concerns in Srikakulam district, officials clarified that an early release of water from the Vamsadhara project expanded the cultivated area, increasing fertilizer demand. To meet the surge, 18,000 metric tonne fertilisers were supplied against the initial requirement of 12,000 metric tonnes. The district administration also noted that farmers were increasingly relying on Rythu Seva Kendras (RSKs) and cooperative societies over private dealers. Agriculture director S Dilli Rao informed that the state has urged the Centre to release pending fertilizer quotas for July and August. Minister Atchannaidu said he would coordinate with Union minister K Ram Mohan Naidu to expedite urea supplies. For kharif 2025, the state has planned 16.76 lakh metric tonnes of fertiliser distribution. As of August 5, 15.94 lakh metric tonnes have been made available, with 7.03 lakh metric tonnes stocked across cooperative societies, RSKs, and Markfed godowns. Additionally, the Centre has allocated 4.58 lakh metric tonnes for August, with the state closely tracking its arrival. Atchannaidu dismissed false propaganda by some media and YSRCP leaders about shortages, accusing the opposition of spreading misinformation to disrupt the new government's welfare initiatives. Pointing to the government's efforts, he noted that 6.99 lakh metric tonnes of fertilisers were distributed through PACS and RSKs in 2024–25, up from 6.17 lakh metric tonnes in 2023–24 under the previous administration. The minister also issued a strict warning to dealers, stating that hoarding, diversion, or overpricing would lead to license cancellation under the Fertiliser Control Order, 1985.
