Sonny Dykes talks about opener against UNC, Bill Belichick
We are under a month away from kickoff for the college football season, and for the North Carolina Tar Heels, they are ushering in a new era under Bill Belichick.
The Tar Heels will play host to TCU on Labor Day in primetime as they are the standalone game for ESPN. It will be a huge game for both programs as Chapel Hill should be electric for the game. But as we continue to countdown the days, TCU head coach Sonny Dykes had a comment on the opener.
Dykes spoke at the Texas High School Coaches Convention recently, calling the opener against UNC 'interesting'.
"We have an interesting opener against North Carolina on Labor Day," Dykes said. "That will be a big challenge for us getting ready for a tough road game against an opponent that's obviously got a pretty impressive resume when it comes to coaching in Bill Belichick.
"There's going to be a whole lot of things we're not going to have the opportunity to prepare for and a lot of unknowns. We've got to make sure we do a good job making sure our players are ready to go play."
Dykes wasn't taking a shot at UNC or Belichick at all. Instead, he was praising the head coach in his first year at the college level. It's going to be a tough challenge for the Tar Heels as TCU is no slouch. But getting off to a good start will be key as well for Belichick and his team.

The legacy checked in at No. 44, as Bruce Feldman wrote that despite adding 'almost 30 pounds since arriving last year, but still managed to vertical jump 35 1/2 inches and broad jump 9-5. He benched 335 pounds and cleaned 355.' Young has the look of a second-year breakout player, and many, including myself believe that is the case. The second Irish player to make the list was tight end Eli Raridon at No. 85. While he hasn't been healthy enough to stay on the field for extended periods, the junior is a physical specimen. Feldman says that Raridon 'displayed plenty of explosiveness this offseason, vertical jumping 34 inches and broad jumping 9-10. He's also quite strong, benching 350 pounds, power cleaning 335 and squatting 535.' While offensive tackle Anthonie Knapp didn't make the list, Feldman still mentioned that he 'made a compelling case for a spot.' With a 30 inch vertical and benching 425 pounds, it looks like the 6-foot, 5-inch and 300-pound tackle just barely missed the cut. Michigan State football poaches Texas staff member for recruiting department
Michigan State football has poached a staff member from one of the prominent programs in the sport, with Jonathan Smith adding a new member to his support system. Michael Morales has been hired as a Player Personnel Analyst with the Spartans. Morales brings a background in player evaluation, football operations and data analysis. Prior to joining the MSU program, he has spent three years with the Texas Football program. A big player in the data analytics, Morales spent time working for Pro Football Focus, where he honed in different facets of statistical analysis. He will bring that analysis background to the Michigan State recruiting department. Charles Jagusah continues to help his Notre Dame teammates even though he's injured
Charles Jagusah can't practice as he recovers from the injury he suffered in a UTV accident last month, but he's been a valuable resource for fellow Notre Dame offensive linemen in camp."He is always engaged. He's always locked just the type of person that he is." It was an unfortunate accident that Notre Dame football projected starting offensive lineman Charles Jagusah had before fall camp started, but as we have seen in the past, that hasn't stopped an injured Irish player from continuing to help his teammates. In a clip shared on Sunday by Tyler Horka, you can see that Jagusah is coaching up his teammates, recording their reps to help the with their technique. It shows that he clearly misses being out there preparing for the season, but also that he's a team player. Jagusah could have been working with the training staff away from his position group, but instead chose to be right by their sides and giving instruction. There is some possibility that he's preparing himself for a career after football as well, as it very much looks like he was enjoying himself in a coaching role. Kudos to Jagusah for still being in the mix of practice even though he can't participate himself.
