Winning ticket in 250 million euro jackpot sold in Munster
The winning ticket in the 250 million euro EuroMillions jackpot was sold in Munster, the National Lottery has confirmed.
A spokesperson said on Wednesday that the ticket was bought in a retail store.
The single-ticket holder scooped the 250 million euro win in Tuesday's draw.
The winning numbers in the draw, which had rolled over several times, were 13, 22, 23, 44 and 49, with lucky stars 3 and 5.
This will be Ireland's 18th winner of the EuroMillions jackpot and its largest win.
By Wednesday afternoon, the winner has not yet come forward.
In an online post, the Irish National Lottery said: 'We can reveal the province where the 250 million euro winning ticket was sold… MUNSTER. Check those EuroMillions tickets.'
National Lottery spokesperson Emma Monaghan told RTE Radio: 'Someone in Ireland is a quarter of a billion euro richer this morning.'
She said the ticket for the 'eye-watering prize' was bought in a retail store.
'If at all possible stay calm, I know that might be easier said than done. Have a cup of tea and let it sink in.'
The EuroMillions jackpot was capped once it hit 250 million euro – or £208 million on current exchange rates.
The maximum amount was reached on Friday June 6 with several rollover draws since then where no one matched the five main numbers and two lucky stars.
In total, more than 92,000 players in Ireland won prizes in the EuroMillions and Plus games.
The last Irish winner of the EuroMillions jackpot was in February 2022, when a person won 30.9 million euro with a quick pick ticket they purchased at a service station in Ballina, Co Tipperary.

UCC ranked 246th best university in the world, its highest ranking in ten years
University College Cork (UCC) has received its highest leading education ranking in a decade, rising 27 places to 246th in the world. The QS World University Rankings are an independent assessment which examines universities against indicators relating to academic reputation, employer reputation, internationalisation, teaching, research, sustainability, as well as the employment outcomes of graduates. QS rated UCC highly across the set of nine indicators, with particular strengths for sustainability, internationalisation and academic and employer reputation. The ranking itself continues to grow with 8,467 institutions across 106 locations evaluated and 1,501 universities making the final published listing. UCC President Professor John O'Halloran welcomed their further improvement in the rankings. 'We are pleased with the further improvement of 27 places, as this result positions UCC inside the Top 250 universities in the world, a key target in our strategic plan. The highest placed UK universities in global rankings revealed
Imperial College London has cemented its position as the UK's leading university, outperforming both Oxford and Cambridge for the second consecutive year in global rankings. The QS Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings placed Imperial College London second globally, trailing only the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US, which retained its top spot. Meanwhile, Oxford slipped from third to fourth place, and Cambridge fell from fifth to sixth for 2026. In total, four British universities made the top 10 in the international league table, with University College London (UCL) retaining ninth place. However, 54 UK universities dropped in the new rankings, released on Thursday, including the University of Glasgow, the University of Manchester, the University of Warwick and the London School of Economics (LSE). Some 11 UK universities maintained their position in the 2026 table, while 24 improved their position, as the University of Sheffield and the University of Nottingham returned to the global top 100 at 92nd and 97th respectively. Jessica Turner, chief executive of QS said that the UK government is 'seeking to slash capital funding in a higher education system that has already sustained financial pressure, introduce an international student levy and shorten the length of the graduate visa route to 18 months from two years'. 'This could accumulate in a negative impact on the quality and breadth of higher education courses and research undertaken across the country. 'While the UK Government has placed research and development as a key part of the recent spending review, universities across the country will need more support to ensure their stability going ahead. 'At the same time, global competitors are seeing their governments increase investment in higher education and research, leading to international peers gaining and, in many cases, overtaking UK universities in the QS World University Rankings.' 'The UK has until now been one of the countries to dominate QS World University Rankings, but institutions in the country are facing heightened competition internationally. 'A targeted approach is necessary by both government and individual institutions to ensure that the higher education excellence the country is renowned for is secured for the future, essential to delivering productivity in a knowledge-based economy and attracting top global talent.'
