UIDAI makes public non-personal Aadhaar Dashboard Data to promote transparency, research
New Delhi [India], May 19 (ANI): The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has begun sharing non-personal, anonymised data from the Aadhaar Dashboard on the open government data platform, data.gov.in, according to a statement from the Ministry of Electronics and IT.
The move aims to further promote transparency, research, and data-driven policy making.
The datasets, released by the Chief Data Officer (CDO) and Deputy Director General of UIDAI, include aggregated insights on Aadhaar enrolment, updates, and authentication patterns, categorised by geography, age group and other relevant parameters.
By making these non-personal and anonymised datasets accessible, UIDAI aims to support academic research, innovation in digital services, and collaborative developments.
The Minister added that this initiative opens new avenues for evidence-based policy-making and technological innovation, furthering UIDAI's commitment to transparency, public good, and secure data governance.
'It also aligns with the broader government vision of fostering evidence-based policy making and maximising the value of open data for the public good. It is expected to further boost digital inclusion and governance efficiency,' the ministry added.
Aadhaar, India's 12-digit unique identification number, has reshaped the nation's approach to identity verification and service delivery since its inception in 2009. The program was launched with a mission to provide every resident with a reliable, digitally verifiable identity using minimal demographic and biometric data.
Aadhaar's robust authentication framework addresses long-standing issues of identity-related fraud and resource leakage by eliminating duplicate and fake identities. This ambitious initiative has grown into the world's largest digital identity program, enabling authentication anytime, anywhere, and facilitating transparent, targeted distribution of services, benefits, and subsidies.
The establishment of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to oversee the issuance of Aadhaar marked a significant step forward. In 2016, UIDAI gained statutory status under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits, and Services) Act, 2016, further solidifying its role in India's governance. Tesla not interested in manufacturing in India, says Kumaraswamy; government issues guidelines for domestic EV manufacturing
New Delhi [India], June 2 (ANI): Tesla, the Elon Musk-owned electric vehicle giant, is not interested in manufacturing in India and is keen on opening showrooms, Union Minister for Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy said on Monday. The remarks came amid government's push to promote domestic manufacture of passenger cars, with a special focus on electric vehicles (EVs). ' are only to start showrooms. They are not interested in manufacturing in India,' the minister said. Heavy Industry Secretary Kamran Rizvi, however, added 'the real intent we'll know when we open the application'. 'If the company still feels like investing. What the minister sir is telling is about what come and told informally,' he said. The minister added that many European companies like Hyundai, Mercedes Benz, Skoda and Kia have shown interest in manufacturing units in India under the new EV policy. Earlier, there were reports that Tesla was interested in importing Tesla car into India and subsequently sell it through their showrooms in India. Tesla boss Musk had in the past indicated that he was interested in investing in India, but 'high import duty' structures were a bone of contention. Tesla's intention to come into India had intensified after India announced its new EV policy, under which import duty was reduced to 15 per cent and many incentives were provided for setting up manufacturing plant in India. Meanwhile, Elon Musk's father Servotec's Errol Musk, who is in India, appeared keen on Tesla's presence in the country. 'That is something that I have to be careful not to say too much about. Tesla is a public company. It's not you look at India and the population, the kind of people you've got here, the energy and everything and when I hear that, with great respect, BYD and various others are coming in, and Tatas and Mahindra are making great cars, I'm very inclined to say, wait, why aren't we having Teslas here. But I can't say too much. That's just a personal point of view,' he said. He was answering a query about plans for Tesla's presence in India. The central government on Monday notified guidelines for the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India. The central government approved a forward-looking scheme to promote the domestic manufacture of passenger cars, with a special focus on electric vehicles (EVs). The initiative is aligned with India's national goals of achieving net zero by 2070, fostering sustainable mobility, driving economic growth, and reducing environmental impact. It is designed to firmly establish India as a premier global destination for automotive manufacturing and innovation. Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has issued a notification regarding detailed guidelines for the 'Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India' (SPMEPCI / the Scheme)MHI had issued the Scheme notification on March 15 2024. The Department of Revenue also issued the notification on March 15, 2024 for reduced import duties in line with the provisions of the Scheme. The Notice for inviting applications under the Scheme is proposed to be notified shortly, whereby the prospective applicants would be able to submit online applications. The scheme shall help to attract investments from global EV manufacturers and promote India as a manufacturing destination for e-vehicles. The Scheme will also help put India on the global map for manufacturing of EVs, generate employment and achieve the goal of 'Make in India'. To encourage the global manufacturers to invest under the Scheme, the approved applicants will be allowed to import Completely Built-in Units (CBUs) of e-4W with a minimum CIF value of USD 35,000 at reduced customs duty of 15% for a period of 5 years from the Application Approval Date. Approved applicants would be required to make minimum investment of Rs. 4,150 crore in line with the provisions of the scheme. (ANI)

Piyush Goyal discusses new opportunities with top French business leaders
New Delhi [India], June 2 (ANI): Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a series of high-level meetings in Paris with top French CEOs to explore new opportunities for India's growth across key sectors such as renewable energy, automobile manufacturing, electric vehicles (EV), and consumer products. As part of his engagements, Goyal met Bernard Fontana, Chairman and CEO of EDF Energy, to discuss India's growing role in the global clean energy transition. 'Met Mr. Bernard Fontana, Chairman and CEO of @EDFofficiel in India's growing leadership in the renewable energy sector and ways to further integrate sustainable energy solutions into our development roadmap,'Piyush Goyal tweeted on social media platform 'X'. Air India mulls winding up association with Turkish maintenance and overhaul firm
New Delhi [India], June 2 (ANI): Air India CEO Campbell Wilson hinted on Monday that the airline is likely to wind up its association with Turkish Technic, a global aviation maintenance and overhaul (MRO) company. It comes amidst increasing calls for boycotting Turkish firms' presence in India, following the West Asian country's open support to Pakistan during the recent conflict with India. Pakistan has also used Turkish drones in the military conflict. 'Air India is likely to wind up its association with Turkish Technic, a global aviation maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) company. The company used to provide maintenance for Boeing 777 aircraft in the airline's fleet. The airlines said they would find alternatives. The decision has been taken in the national interest, respecting public sentiments,' the Air India CEO told ANI. India currently lacks MRO facilities for wide-body aircraft, and is heavily dependent on foreign MROs for services. The government has recently cancelled the security clearance of Turkey-based airport ground handling firm Celebi, citing 'interest of national security'. Earlier, Indigo had requested a further six-month extension for the 'damp-leased' aircraft from Turkish Airlines, which the regulator did not agree to. Indigo is operating two B777-300ER aircraft under a 'damp lease' from Turkish Airlines, which was permitted till May 31, 2025. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted Indigo a final three-month extension 'to avoid passenger inconvenience.' 'However, in order to avoid passenger inconvenience due to immediate flight disruption, Indigo has been granted a one-time last and final extension of three months,' the DGCA said on Friday while granting a one-time extension to Indigo. 'This extension is based on the undertaking from the airline that they will terminate the damp lease with Turkish Airlines within this extension period, and shall not seek any further extension for these operations,' the DGCA added.
