PM Modi didn't just speak of modernising Anganwadis but delivered it: Smriti Irani

New Delhi: While the Modi government completes 11 years in power, 'Garib Kalyan' has remained at the core of governance as reflected in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's oft-repeated pitch of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas'.
Much like Ujjwala Yojana, DBT, Jan Dhan Yojana and others, Anganwadi centres have seen upgradation and transformation for the first time, under Prime Minister Modi.
Former Union Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday explained in detail how the Anganwadis remained "institutions of no relevance" during UPA rule but became digitised and modernised under the Modi government.
The Modi Story, a popular social media handle on X, shared a video of Smriti Irani shedding light on the differences between the BJP and Congress regimes in their outlook, focus and governance regarding Anganwadis.
In the video, Irani, the former Women and Child Development Minister, said there is too much of a difference between boasting about bringing change and delivering it on the ground.
"PM Modi didn't just speak about modernisation but delivered it. He not just spoke about revamping old ways of working in the Anganwadis but also brought structural changes to ensure that the real change happens on the ground," she said.
Lamenting the ignorance and negligence of Anganwadi centres during the Congress regime, she said that it remained in power for so many years, but Anganwadis were never on its list of priorities.
Recalling the range of initiatives to strengthen Anganwadis, Irani said that under Prime Minister Modi, more than 11 lakh Anganwadis received smart devices and 12 lakh growth monitoring devices, a first in the country's history.
Over 10 lakh Anganwadi workers were trained digitally and offline, she further informed, calling it a true example of turning vision into action.
Notably, Anganwadi Services are one of the flagship programmes of the government providing early childhood care and development of the beneficiaries i.e. children in the age group of 0-6 years, pregnant women and lactating mothers through a large network of Anganwadi workers (AWW) and Helpers (AWH).
Under POSHAN Abhiyaan, the Aanganwadi workers (AWWs) have been technologically empowered with smartphones. A total of 11.03 lakhs smartphones have been procured by States/UTs.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative this year, the Women and Child Development Ministry decided to extend childcare services through Anganwadi cum Creche (AWCC).

'Chenab & Anji Bridge are transformative projects': PM Modi hails infra push in J&K; watch top moments from his visit

PM Modi shares highlights from J&K visit NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday shared a video capturing highlights from his visit to Jammu and Kashmir a day earlier, where he inaugurated the Chenab Rail Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge, and Anji Bridge. After the formal ceremony, PM Modi walked across the bridge while waving the national flag, symbolising both India's engineering prowess and patriotic spirit. Posting on X, he wrote, 'Highlights from a memorable visit to Jammu and Kashmir. The Chenab Rail Bridge and Anji Bridge are transformative projects!' During his visit, the Prime Minister also flagged off the Vande Bharat train service connecting Katra in Jammu to Srinagar in Kashmir. The Chenab Bridge, which rises 359 metres above the river, taller than the Eiffel Tower, is a critical infrastructure project that closes a long-pending gap in rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of India, ensuring year-round access. Located in the Reasi district, the rail arch bridge is an excellent example of engineering marvel. After the inauguration, PM Modi visited a photo exhibition showcasing the technical challenges overcome during the bridge's construction and interacted with the engineers and workers who built it amid extreme weather and tough terrain. The Anji Bridge, over Chenab river, is also a key part of Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link. The Prime Minister's visit to Jammu and Kashmir was also significant as it marked his first trip to the region since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives.

Pakistan reacts as PM Modi says Islamabad involved in Pahalgam attack

Pakistan said on Friday it was "dismayed" over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks that Islamabad was involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed. Commenting on PM Modi's remarks, Pakistan's Foreign Office said it "firmly rejects the baseless and misleading remarks" made by PM Modi. 'We are deeply dismayed that the Indian prime minister has once again chosen to accuse Pakistan of involvement in the Pahalgam attack, without presenting a single piece of credible evidence,' it said in a statement, as per news agency PTI. PM Modi accused Pakistan of targeting "insaniyat and Kashmiriyat" through the terror attack in Pahalgam during his speech in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. PM Modi reiterated that the April 22 Pahalgam attack was a stark example through which Pakistan "intended to incite communal violence in India and cripple the earnings of hardworking Kashmiris". 'What happened in Pahalgam on April 22 is a clear example of this. Pakistan attacked both insaaniyat and Kashmiriyat in Pahalgam. Its intention was to incite riots in India. Its aim was to stop the earnings of the hardworking people of Kashmir. That's why Pakistan targeted the tourists,' PM Modi said while addressing a rally in Katra after inaugurating the first direct train service to the Kashmir Valley. He added, 'The way the people of Jammu and Kashmir have stood up against Pakistan's conspiracy, the strength shown by the people this time has not only sent a strong message to Pakistan, but also to the entire world's terrorist mindset. Jammu and Kashmir's people have given a powerful response.' Earlier on Friday, the prime minister inaugurated the Chenab bridge and India's first cable-stayed Anji bridge, both symbols of India's engineering excellence, before flagging off Vande Bharat trains to mark the completion of the 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway link (USBRL) providing direct train connectivity to the Valley. About two weeks after the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes. (With inputs from agencies)
