Students build gates to stop anti-social behaviour
White wooden fences built by those learning the trade at Burnley College have been put up on the front porches of properties to deter people from gathering outside.
PC Chris McKee of Lancashire Police said older homeowners on the estate, the location of which has not been revealed, had been concerned about young people "gathering, drinking and smoking" outside their homes and making them feel unsafe.
He said the students efforts were a "great example of the local community coming together to tackle anti-social behaviour".
PC McKee said the force was also stepping up patrols and working with the housing provider on the estate to install extra security.
David Lord, head of construction and engineering at Burnley College, said the students were excited to be part of the project, which can be incorporated into the curriculum.
He said it had been an "ideal opportunity for them to put their skills and knowledge into action and create something which will really make a difference to the lives of others".
The project was funded by LANPAC, the Lancashire Partnership Against Crime.

Murder arrests after man stabbed to death in park
A man has died after being fatally stabbed in a park in Dewsbury. West Yorkshire Police were called to reports of disorder involving a group of males at Crow Nest Park, off Heckmondwike Road, in the Dewsbury Moor area of the town, at 20:17 BST on Saturday. Paramedics and an air ambulance attended the scene but the man, in his 30s, was pronounced dead a short time later. The force said three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police said they had also been called to a report of disorder involving several people fighting on Pilgrim Drive at 20:11, shortly before the incident in the park. Det Ch Insp James Entwistle said: "We have launched a murder investigation after a man sadly suffered fatal injuries while being attacked with a bladed article in Crow Nest Park. "We believe this was a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to members of the public. "I would like to appeal to anyone who was in Crow Nest Park or around Pilgrim Drive or Pilgrim Crescent who may have seen anything that could assist with our enquiries to please come forward." He added there were currently extra police patrols in the area, as well as several detectives investigating the scene. Council warning after life buoys used as dog toys
Repeated vandalism of life-saving equipment is putting people in danger, councillors have warned. Torridge District Council said there had been multiple occasions where equipment used to rescue people had been vandalised at leisure spots, including Kenwith Valley Reservoir, which is popular with dog walkers. The council, which has more than 40 life-saving items across the district, said it had seen "lifebuoys used as dog toys, throw lines in trees and boxes thrown into water or gone missing". Phillip Hackett, the council's safety lead, said: "Lives are priceless - you wouldn't tamper with a parachute, you wouldn't tamper with a safety belt in the car." "The monetary side isn't the main driver here," Hackett said. The council said adding padlocks to boxes which hold equipment could waste vital seconds in an emergency. Chris Willson, a coastal engineer for Torridge District Council, said: "Unfortunately people seem to like to vandalise certain items. "It is quite a concern, especially if someone were to be in danger." Four arrests on second day of Trnsmt including knife possession and drugs
Four people have been arrested following the second night of Trnsmt in Glasgow. Police Scotland said alleged offences at the music festival included possession of a knife, drugs, breaching curfew and breach of the peace. On Sunday night Gracie Abrams will perform before Snow Patrol closes the three-day event.
