Royal Caribbean cruise boat worker stabs female coworker and then dies jumping overboard
A Royal Caribbean crew member jumped overboard to his death after stabbing his female coworker, according to police. A 35-year-old South African man was working on the Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas cruise ship when he stabbed a 28-year-old South African female crew member 'multiple times' just before 7.30 a.m. Thursday, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said. The man then fled the scene and jumped off the ship, authorities said. He was later pronounced dead by onboard medical staff. The female victim suffered stab wounds to her upper body. She was treated and is now in stable condition, police said. It's not immediately clear what prompted the violence. A motive behind the stabbing has not been identified and crew members have not been publicly named. An investigation into the matter is ongoing. An autopsy has been scheduled, police said. A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean described the incident to NBC News as "a personal dispute.' No additional details were mentioned. "Our crew immediately initiated a search and rescue operation, but unfortunately the crew member passed away," the company in a statement to CBS News. "We extend our condolences to the crew member's family and loved ones. To respect their privacy, we have no additional details to share." Passengers recalled crew members rushing after the intercom blasted 'Oscar, Oscar, Oscar" — the Royal Caribbean's code for man overboard, the outlet reported. The ship then slowed before turning around. The Independent has reached out to the Royal Caribbean for more information. The Icon of the Seas was making its way back from the Bahamas to Miami when the incident transpired, CruiseMapper shows. The cruise ship departed Miami on July 19 and then made stops in St. Marteen, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas, before returning to Florida. The Icon of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, made its maiden voyage in January 2024. The 1,200-feet-long vessel boasts seven pools, the 'world's largest waterpark at sea,' six waterslides and nine whirlpools. It holds up to 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew members across its 19 floors.

Police offer £20,000 reward for information over fatal stabbing
Police are offering £20,000 for any information into the fatal stabbing of a 20-year-old man in an east London park, a year after his death. Imran Maroof, 20, was killed on 27 July last year after reports of a fight in Plashet Park, Newham. Police officers arrived at the scene at 7.38pm to find the young man with stab injuries. Despite attempts by the emergency services to stabilise Mr Maroof, the Metropolitan Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old boy who could not be named for legal reasons was arrested the following month in connection with the murder, appearing later at Bexley Magistrates' Court, but he was subsequently released. A spokesperson for the force said the case against the teenager was then dropped. Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend from Specialist Crime South said Mr Maroof's murder had a 'profound impact' on the young man's family, adding that the Met 'remains committed' to finding his killer. 'Imran's family and friends continue to live with the trauma,' she said. 'One year has passed since this senseless killing, and the Met remains committed to bringing those who killed Imran to justice. 'If you were in the vicinity of Plashet Park on the day of the stabbing or know anything that could help us, we need you to contact us.' Police have released a photo of the victim, with independent charity Crimestoppers offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information. Alexa Loukas, London regional manager for Crimestoppers, said: 'We know that some people may be reluctant or worried to speak directly to the police with information, which is why Crimestoppers is here. 'We are completely independent and guarantee you will remain 100% anonymous when you contact us. 'We offer a safe way for anyone to come forward and tell us what they know but not who they are. 'We are unable to identify any phone numbers or IP addresses if you are reporting online. 'Imran's family deserve answers, and we hope this reward will encourage someone to do the right thing and speak up with any information that may help the police.' Anyone with information is urged to call 101, quoting crime reference 6541/27JUL. Alternatively, to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A Defiant George Santos Reports To Prison
WEST ISLIP, NEW YORK - AUGUST 19: Former U.S. Rep. George Santos gives a statement after a court ... More hearing on August 19, 2024 in West Islip, New York. Santos pleaded guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft weeks before his federal trial was set to begin. His sentencing has been scheduled for February 7, and he faces more than six years in prison under federal sentencing guidelines. Santos owes at least $370,000 in restitution. He was expelled from Congress in 2023, becoming the sixth member in the chamber's history to be ousted by colleagues. (Photo by Michael M. Santiago/Getty Images) The short and disgraceful political career of former NY Congressman George Santos has officially ended with his reporting to prison on July 25th. Before he was even sworn in as a member of Congress, the media was filled with allegations that he had lied about his personal history while campaigning and had committed a variety of white-collar crimes unrelated to his campaign. Federal prosecutors initially charged him with seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds and two counts of making materially false statements to the House of Representatives in 2023, but five months later, after further investigation, one count of conspiracy to commit offenses against the United States, two counts of wire fraud, two counts of materially making false statements to the Federal Election Commission, two counts of falsifying records submitted to obstruct the Federal Election Commission, two counts of aggravated identity theft and one count of access device fraud were added to the charges against him. Meanwhile Congress did its own investigation of the crimes alleged to have been committed by Santos and on November 17, 2023 issued its report concluding that Santos had knowingly violated federal laws including campaign finance laws and had misused campaign funds for his personal benefit including Botox treatments. Less than a month later, on December 1, 2023 the House of Representative voted to expel George Santos. Santos was only the sixth member of the House of Representatives to be expelled from office with three of those expulsions of congressmen who had supported and fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. The vote to expel Santos was 311-114 with 112 Republicans voting against the expulsion and 105 Republicans voting to expel. Facing sentences of more than twenty years on just the money laundering charge, Santos' attorneys negotiated a plea bargain by which Santos pleaded guilty to just two charges, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Santos was sentenced on April 25, 2025 to the maximum sentence under the sentencing guidelines of 87 months, which he began serving on July 25th. However, George Santos showed no remorse and did not go quietly off to prison in the days prior to his starting his sentence. He posted a series of tweets on X and posted videos on the video sharing platform Cameo that allows fans to purchase personalized messages from celebrities, athletes, influencers and others right up until the day of his surrender, charging a minimum of $300 for each video. Most fittingly, his final tweet was done almost thirty years to the day that the movie Clueless was released. In the tweet he said: 'Well darlings… The curtain falls, the spotlight dims and the rhinestones are packed. From the halls of Congress to the chaos of cable news what a ride it's been! Was it messy? Always. Glamorous? Occasionally. Honest? I tried… most days. To my supporters: You made this wild political cabaret worth it. To my critics: Thanks for the free press. I may be leaving the stage (for now), but trust me legends never truly exit. Forever fabulously yours, George
