Teenager charged with murdering mother, brother and injuring younger brother

By: Bernama Text Size: MELAKA: A 17-year-old boy is accused of killing his mother and biological elder brother, besides injuring his younger brother at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court here today. For the first and second charges, the teenager is accused of causing the death of his 51-year-old mother and 21-year-old biological brother at No 7, Jalan RM3, Taman Rambai Mutiara, in the Melaka Tengah district between 5 and 5.30 am on June 12.
Advertisement He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment for not less than 30 years but not more than 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, can be whipped not less than 12 strokes. No plea was recorded from the accused when the charge was read out in Mandarin by the court interpreter as the murder charge falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Meanwhile, for the third charge, the accused is charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm to his 13-year-old younger brother by using a folding knife at the same location on the same date and time. He is charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous bodily harm which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine or whipping. The teenager, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Farah Nabihah Sofian while the accused was represented by lawyer Cassian Anthony, with no bail offered for all three charges. Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani set July 24 for the case to be mentioned again. On June 12, the media reported that a female teacher and her eldest child died while her youngest child was seriously injured, believed to have been stabbed by a teenage boy who was also the victim's second child at their home. The incident is believed to have occurred at around 5 am and the single mother and her son were found lying in a pool of blood in the living room. Zara Qairina case: Teens plead not guilty to charge of bullying
KOTA KINABALU: All five teenagers charged in connection with the bullying of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir pleaded not guilty at the Court for Children here on Wednesday (Aug 20). Umno Youth members to show up at Dr Akmal's court appearance, Penang chief says
GEORGE TOWN: Umno Youth members from across the country will gather at the Bukit Mertajam court on Friday (Aug 22) to show solidarity with their chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh, who will be facing legal proceedings. Penang Umno Youth chief Mohd Hilmi Elias said the wing would be joined by counterparts nationwide at 8am that day. "We believe Dr Akmal is fighting for the people and our country's future. Our presence is not just a show of personal support but also a manifestation of Umno Youth's commitment to defend justice and truth. 'We urge Malaysians, especially in Penang, to join us in this show of support," he said in a statement on Wednesday. Dr Muhamad Akmal will be charged at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court this Friday with making statements likely to cause fear or alarm to the public, the Attorney General's Chamber has reportedly said. Akmal also confirmed that he had received police notification that he would be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code (intentionally causing public panic and breaching the public peace) and would appear in court in Bukit Mertajam, Penang on Friday.

Hilman Idham charged with making statement causing public fear
KUALA LUMPUR: Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham was charged at the magistrate's court here today with making a statement on the social media platform TikTok late last month that allegedly caused public fear. The Bersatu Armada chief, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge read before magistrate Amira Abd Aziz. "I claim trial," he said. Muhammad Hilman, 36, was accused of making the statement through TikTok, which was deemed likely to cause public fear and encourage any person to commit an offence against public tranquillity, at 2.09 pm on July 30. A police officer from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department had come across the TikTok post at Menara KPJ here. The charge was framed under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum of two years' imprisonment or a fine, or both, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Badius Zaman Ahmad proposed bail at RM10,000, while lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, representing Muhammad Hilman, requested RM3,000 bail with one surety. "It is impossible for my client to abscond. He is well known throughout Selangor and Malaysia and has cooperated fully with the authorities," he submitted.
